The Mattingly family live in a 700sq ft with their two daughters. Steve is a volunteer firefighter and both him and his wife Melissa are emergency medical technicians and are usually first responders on the scene which came in handy when Melissa was first on scene for her husbands accident!
After being struck down by a driver whilst redirecting traffic from a nearby fire for the fire department, Steve now has several medical problems which this once temporary starter home is becoming a permanent problem!

I was a medic for about 10 years and you never knew what you would end up going to. One day I was the patient and my life was saved by my coworkers after I went into anaphylactic shock. Glad this family was able to be helped and that they are doing well now!
I used to look so forward to this uplifting show every Sunday evening! It's nice to see there are good people left!

I wish this show was still being made. We need more shows that show all of us have more in common than our differences. This show was light that showed American kindness.

The truth as to what made these homes affordable for these families has been sitting in plain clear sight all along.
If you take a look at the episode for the Wofford family from Season 2, there's a segment midway into construction when they're building the second floor. Paul DiMeo is hosting the segment where he clearly states "these walls are pre built off site". This is the answer.
The homes they completely rebuilt were built using hybrid combinations of Prefab and Panelized wall construction. Generally speaking, these methods use building materials much more efficiently than traditional construction, thus the unit costs are up to 60% lower. In the show's case, although there was an increase in property values, these construction methods significantly curtailed that increase. These methods also produce homes that are far more energy efficient so that curtailed increases in utilities.

I know what Ty means when he says that it's entirely different when it is a loved one involved. I also know what he means when he says that stuff about his mother and having to preform a life saving procedure on a loved one. I mean my grandfather was having a heart attack and my grandmother and I had within a month before it had read a book by Pat Ivey which describes the symptoms of a heart attack and we got him to the hospital two hours before he had the heat attack.

the biggest take away from this show is how many of them got into a mess financially because of the US healthcare system, which whilst they have good doctors. Nurses , hospitals etc, but of course you have to pay for it all.
I'm afraid you're terribly misinformed. Out of 204 families only 9 had to give them up due to financial reasons. These reasons were common economic hardships associated with homeownership.
4 of the cases were due to income loss, mostly due to people losing their jobs during the recession.
The remaining 5 were due to surmountable debts, notably medical bills. The taxes were a factor in only one case, stemming from a tax hike, and only two were foreclosures.
SOCIALISM DOESN'T WORK.
GET OVER IT.
What this show fails to tell people is that once they "makeover your home" (1) you probably will not be able to afford your newly re-appraised PROPERTY TAXES; (2) the "makeover" is done with not up to code building materials and/or local building codes.
