I love this show. Even though I know there are many staged elements that are edited out, I enjoy the heart of the stories. The ONLY thing I don't like is that the designs are so focused on the children at the time the homes are built. I wish these rooms would be built with ways the kids can grow and mature and change their rooms to reflect that. A peekaboo room is great for now but in three years it won't be appropriate.

My Daughter went from a Princess Room, to a Barbie Room, to a Grunge Room in Pink with Black Skulls, you just change the room as they grow older. That's what good dads do.

No one in the family seemed to like "uncle Joe" much. I felt so bad for the poor guy.
I can't believe they cancelled this show. I thought there was too many people that liked this TV show for it to go off air. Even though they did it over the top to people that had it better then others
Many of the recipients of their beautiful homes could not keep up with all the hidden issues that reared their uggly heads, so therefor they were forced to sell to be able to survive. I think maybe that is the reason the show was canceled, the powers that be didnt take in to account what the families could afford when it came to taxes and the such like their wages did not cover their monthly expenses.
@@caropapa I'm sure in those fancy houses monthly electric bill, water bill, ect utilities was prolly not more then 600 bucks on a bad day. Minimum wage earnings are at least 1200 months. Many who have families could get a lot of money for taxes for each child and could save their money really well to be able afford the home... I would think.
I think they did it over the top on many of these houses to a lot of people that probably really didn't deserve it. Its political motion and power to large audiences. Put face looks good and what face looks bad. Mascot leverage.
@@caropapaOut of 204 recipient families, there were only 9 cases in which families had to give them up due to financial reasons. Moreover, these reasons had nothing to do with the houses themselves. In 4 cases the families ran into situations resulting in loss of income, and in the other 5 they had situations resulting in surmountable debts (NOT TAXES) like medical bills and faulty subprime mortgages.
The show was cancelled because of all the negative press coverage which began when the recession and the affordable housing crisis started to unfold. Legal agreements made to protect the recipients privacy left the producers and network unable to respond to the backlash, leaving the press free to run hog wild with it.
This sent the ratings into a freefall and damaged relations with sponsors, both of which the show relied on.

I thought they would have figured it all out with professionals with finances before they left and built there house.
Every body wants a free house not one person doesn't. They showed only made viewers dream more that life had some good people in it before we die, as suppose every body figuring out who's going to survive better or kill the next person to get what they want in life.....or better yet only use people for resources then throw them to the funeral homes for a quick clean up.
I think the showed made people think more that some people actually do care about your life when they never have met you after doing the background investigation on the individuals getting the free house.

@@hectorpalomo They did. Part of the selection process included a financial background check to determine what each family could afford in terms of taxes and utilities. All the materials and products were donated by sponsors, so with each build they set a value cap on those donations to keep the taxes within a range the family could afford.
The real key to the show's effectiveness was the construction methods they used which not only allowed them to get the houses built so fast, but it also made the homes more affordable. They used combinations of Prefab, Panelized and Modular construction, each of which use building materials more efficiently and thus curtailed the value increase by up to 60%. These building methods also makes homes more energy efficient so that curtailed increases in utilities.
On top of that, they often made efforts to offset other housing costs, such as holding fundraisers and recruiting donors to pay off mortgages and set up college funds, and implementing green energy sources to further reduce utility bills. Finally when all was said and done, they set each family up with a financial advisor.

Every serviceman/woman deserves our appreciation & help. If he is struggling to cope with all. I just wonder how he can manage/pay for with what Ty & co have done. How does he afford the upkeep?

Maybe it is ust me. I think any Govt who send people off to war. Need to look after these soldiers on their return. I say shame on every Govt for failing these people.

It is 95% erradicated but there are still pockets in some countries and the Anti Vaxx movement isn't helping either. Also Remember he contracted Polio in Vietnam in the 60's as a baby.

The truth as to what made these homes affordable for these families has been sitting in plain clear sight all along.
If you take a look at the episode for the Wofford family from Season 2, there's a segment midway into construction when they're building the second floor. Paul DiMeo is hosting the segment where he clearly states "these walls are pre built off site". This is the answer.
The homes they completely rebuilt were built using hybrid combinations of Prefab and Panelized wall construction. Generally speaking, these methods use building materials much more efficiently than traditional construction, thus the unit costs are up to 60% lower. In the show's case, although there was an increase in property values, these construction methods significantly curtailed that increase. These methods also produce homes that are far more energy efficient so that curtailed increases in utilities.
These poor families. They will be worse off after this show. They can barely afford what they have. 1. Their homes get reappraised after construction. The property taxes skyrocket. 2. The home is only built in a week. No way is it built perfectly. 3. Electric/water bills shoot up from all the unnecessary crap like carousels and hot tubs. Many families from previous seasons regret applying for the show. Look up the videos. It will make you cry more than the actual videos.
I have heard this before and looked it up, the families in question in almost all the cases Borrowed more money against the new value and created there own headaches.
Also they built the house in about 21 days and it is built perfectly, now you are going to say, No it was 7 days, except they work in shifts 24 hours a day for 7 days or 21 normal Builders days.
Very few actually lost their houses.Most chose to sell to make a profit. Yeah bills went up ut almost every had their mortgage paid off. The money they spent on mortgage went to higher bills.Bad choices of some families like borrowing against house is not show's fault
