“I feel like I could eat a pack and look confused the entire time” Why is he SUCH a mood tho?
I am scrolling and see your username. I freaking love it.
I'm an Asian and I sit here like whoa even I don't eat some of those, you're damn brave girl
I still find durian horrible (well, not til the aftertaste hits!), but so many ppl I knew loved it.
Yeah, I heard that even in Asia, eating durian is like... a rarity. I heard in Japan, natto kinda gets the same treatment. Fewer people like it. And you either really like it or really hate it.
Every culture has that kind of food. Very few people actually eat the super stinky cheeses, for example.
violet_blume isn't it banned in some places because of the smell?
@@RavenWing1972 When I went to Singapore, there were literally signs on the metro saying "no durian," lol.
Eating a whole packet and looking confused the entire time is one of the best explanations I've ever heard.
I'm Thai and raised in Hong Kong so I'm familiar with all of these, apart from the yogurt and grape soda flavoured chips, I would say they are definitely experimental, once a strawberry flavoured lays chips were sold here, I didn't try it tho lol.
Lotus root - either eaten as a candy during Chinese New Year, or cooked into meals like noodles and stir fry.
Grass Jelly - same family like the famous tapioca pearls, it's like a food that's drunken with tea. On road trips in Thailand, we would eat it in a cup with ice and syrup.
Milk tea with cheese - the bottled version would be confusing. Yes, drinking tea with cheese is popular, but the cheese is whipped, making it like a dalgona type of topper, a famous chain that does this is ShareTea, GongCha does whipped milk foam.
Palm's seed - mostly eaten for texture, usually eaten in a dessert in the "Nam Wan" family, which is a cold soup dessert.
Eel chips - this type of chip manufactured by Calbee is a famous corn chip in a skinny cheeto like texture, personally I haven't this flavour, but the other stuff they do is great. And I quite like eel in general.
Hot Kid Milk - definitely mistranslated, this brand 'WangZai' is ICONIC, ua-cam.com/video/FVcsklG7i4g/v-deo.html these are some of the commercials I watched growing up.
Crab Roe Broad Beans - never had this, broad beans snack are eaten like how people eat peanuts in a bar.
Banana Corn Puffs - never had this. However, banana flavoured snacks is not an odd thing.
Bird's Nest soup - even though it didn't make an appearance on the video, maybe this would be cool. the Bird's nest is a special type of nest as they are made from the spit of a particular type of bird that inhabits in a cave. Bird's nest is a delicacy and eaten for health, it's sweet, like a dessert. The job to get the bird's nest is dangerous and laboriously demanded, therefore it's expensive.
Pandan roll - pandan is flavour extracted from pandan leaves which are palm-like.
Banana Blossoms - heavily used in Thai cuisine when cooking, usually eaten in a broth-curry type of food. Similar to the Lotus root, used for cooking. My personal favourite, bamboo roots.
Mangosteen drink - mangosteen is a national fruit of Thailand.
Cuttlefish chips - never had this, but I love cuttlefish in general.
Chrysanthemum Tea - a common tea. Chinese grandmothers would make you drink this if you're sick.
Milk Rings - just a new snack tbh
Mung bean ice cream - The more popular choice would be a red bean ice cream bar. I don't dislike a mung bean ice cream tho, but these flavours are usually more for a mature demographic.
Sugar Cane drink - common drink, you could get this drink in a market in Asia.
Durian candy - Durian in general is a hit or miss. I like it in general even as a toffee, however some days I would hate it. I like to put durian in the freezer, it's like eaten ice cream because of the texture.
This comments deserves a hell of a lot more recognition. So interesting to learn about foods from other parts of the world. Thank you for this :)
@@laurettadelmar2781 I know I had to screen shot this comment! Awesome and interesting!
I rly like how they are culturally sensitive and don’t try to overplay their dislike for views. Many you tubers would totally overplay their distaste while they simply move on to the next thing:)
I agree with you 100 percent
we call the "ghost grapes" kaong here in the phillipines. these came from sugar palm trees. we include it with dessert halo halo. we mostly eat it for texture
Red ones too?
@@GothHoneyBee84 they are colored red and green, sometimes yellow, because they are also ingredients with our fruit/buko salad that is usually served during christmas

10:20-10:30 - Black Friday: "I'm allergic to some fungi. I don't want to get an allergic reaction just to taste something..."
Mr. Owl: "Well, you're not allergic to me, even though I'm a Fun-Guy!" LOL, that pun... XD
💀
Mr. Owl's "dad joke" about fungi was so silly
I just love him
He's so cute!! She's so lucky!!
You should try one of these weird food tastings at a round table with several goth friends. A weird food party?
Weird food muk bang!
I'm so here for that lol
New Zealand is out of quarantine.
I'm down
+ at the graveyard DAMNNN HAHAH
When she brought out the eel corn crisps, that was such a sincere “Fockin’ wot mate???”
So cute 😂
I absolutely loved it. LOL. it so smooth and under his breath, I almost didnt catch it. Such a sly guy.
lol!
mr Owl: no i don't like that
Friday: well tough biscuit, you're having one, i'm dying you're coming with me.
i love you two so much
I also love how his response to her "tough biscuits you're having one" is just a quiet "okay." Like "yeah I know, we're going down together." It's so sweet in a way you don't see often anymore. 🖤
Goth romance, so nice.
My wife loves cuttlefish chips and I make her eat them in a separate room lmao and we love Chrysanthemum tea. We get the instant stuff. Its very sweet.
Haha! I love tinned fish and he makes me eat that in a separate room. Floral teas always tend to be yummy ☺️🌸
Chrysanthemum is SO good for you!!
I love the Chrysanthemum tea and floral teas in general. So good, lol I have mine with vanilla almond milk or sweetened soy milk, I’m lactose but seriously it takes amazing!
I grew up with milk and sugar in my tea. I just found out today the reason is because in the 17th and 18th century tea cups were so delicate that the heat of the tea alone would sometimes crack the cup so they used to add a little milk to cool it down.
Just read your comment . In UK my mother would always top up the tea with milk to check colour and ensure the tea was steeped.. Apparently poor people put milk in first to prevent the crack of cup .. so typically England, its denotes a class thing 😄
My gran always put milk in tea first
Also, it's so nice seeing you and Mr. Owl smiling and having more positive energy together 😊🖤
There is something about her giggle I absolutely love. Haha
it’s fun watching you guys together- we need more cooking or baking adventures! I am curious about chrysanthemum tea i wonder if pollen would kill me? omg mung bean icecream! These beans saved my mom’s life for a few years. Very anticancer and macrobiotic. They don’t taste bad so icecream should have been smooth unless they use them raw???? they should be blanched pureed and added. Can u do a New Zealand food episode? we only know the best lamb is from there. We need a New Zealand special food episode???!!!
That would be great because there is a Nz potato chip/crisp company that just released a couple odd sounding flavours so it would be fun to see them try them. I live in Nz so I know we have some items no where else has except maybe Australia
The mung bean ice cream bar she's eating in the video has whole cooked mung bean in them. Which is still very yummy and nice for people who like a bit of texture.
@@darkprincess000jk oh my god. The lamington flavour chip is the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. I only ate half a chip too! Bleurgh.
@@morningstarghuleh1087 Right?! I just tried one yesterday and I was like but why? Like yes it tastes like lamington but its a chip it is so weird!
The bird nest soup Mr Owl commented is not made of sticks, it's the swiftlet nest. The bird makes its nest with solidified saliva. Yeah, it's way grossier than just "sticks soup" xD
And the cuttlefish snack I used to eat all the time with beer. It really can give you some fish breath
Eww
I had it at a korean friends house once. I think they made it special for me as a guest or something. I will say that I never had my mind race with ideas on how to get out of a situation so much in my life! It was thee most putrid, gross, disgusting things i have ever had the displeasure of tasting in my life.🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️ Go ahead and try it but make sure you can stop, barf, escape, run, hide, fake illness somehow. You have been warned. Lol
You're hot! Thanks for the information.
@@jetta.silence6356 I'm glad I never had it LoL just saw some videos about it. Some asians countries consider it a health food, so probably it was their way to wish you good health.

@@GothicKittyMadness what are you talking about!? 😕
@GothicKittyMadness who’s racist? My comment says nothing about racism at all.
I'm very familiar with most of these snacks and watching you two describe the taste/texture etc cracked me up. I actually spat my drink. Also, I quite like the grass jelly drink, and I used to kind of like durians until one time I saw a big red durian worm in it. Idk I just never ate durian ever since.
I got those as well! Ugh the worm was squirming
😬😬😬
Worm? D:
The discussion about the Hot Kid Milk 😂😂 you two are too cute!
Mr Owl seems too damn calm! Jumper cables clipped to his ball sack "hmmmm.....yeah......that's not cool" LOL

Here on Svalbard we have a huge Thai community with a small Thai supermarket. I sometimes look at some products in awe, wondering if I should try them once and you've now sort of convinced me to at least try some of the funky looking stuff
Thai community on Svårlbard?! Did everybody go to Thai land and buy a “Dial-a-bride”?!
@@aidanbutcher8817 some married Norwegians, others came because its visa free and well paid
I’m an Asian and have tried 90% of these snacks and can relate to them so much! It’s so fun to see how the both of you react to the taste, they can be very acquired :) love such videos!
"Smells a little bit like a sewer"... proceeds to take a bite.Brave, brave, brave lady 🤩
The milk teas I've seen with cheese in them tend to be more of like a cream-cheese flavor, so it's more like a cheesecake type drink than like...eating liquefied cheddar or some shit. Cheese foam
I know it might seem strange... But something about watching her open chip bags perfectly is Soo satisfying!!!!
I'm raised by a Taiwanese mum, and most of these aren't that weird to me haha. The mung bing popsicle is actually a big treat for me, but I can understand why the texture might be offputting for some people :)
🙌🙌🙌
The sugar drink reminded me of Men in Black when the Alien asks for water with the whole bowl of sugar 😂
A coworker once brought durian candies back from an overseas trip, possibly even the same ones you were trying. It was... not pleasant to eat. As I recall, they mostly sat out in the common room for a couple weeks until someone finally tossed them.
My lovely uncle visits Vietnam regularly and he brings treats for us to try. It was all fun until the durian products came out! We tried durian tarts and durian candies. Some of the family liked them but the majority of us decided they tasted the way hot, sweaty feet smelled.
Eeewww, kinda brought back memories of the locker room after a track meet.😖
"Tough Biscuits" Im using that now
Me too!

Kiwiana Expressions 101 with Black Friday!
Poor Mr. Owl. Some of his facial expressions ranged from "OMG help me" to "Please don't!" but mostly "What have I gotten myself into?". Loved the video lol!
I love grass jelly drinks and mung bean ice cream. If you get just grass jelly it's good with shaved ice or in fruit teas.
I’m from the US and when I went to New Zealand I tried Marmite, Vegemite, & Pumpkin Soup-three of the weirdest things I’ve had (Vegemite is putrid). Another strange dish I’ve had here but it was authentic apparently, was beer cheese (Irish thing). I’m very open to trying different foods and try to find every opportunity when I can-durian being on the list.
Marmite and Vegemite are definitely acquired tastes. Did you not like pumpkin soup? Watties make a great one. It's not the same kind of pumpkin that Americans carve during Halloween. www.vegetables.co.nz/vegetables-a-z/pumpkins/
Mister Owl, oh for sure-Ornamental pumpkins are not at meant to be eaten. But the 20 or something different versions of pumpkin soup I tried collectively tasted really bland in my opinion. It’s very similar to butternut squash soup-which I prefer. I’m sure we have things here that seem odd to you guys.
...also not a fan of lamb anything. If it wasn’t pumpkin soup it was lamb
Mr. Owl never ceases to make me lough, he's so hilarious!😂
the 'you fuckin what mate' reaction to the eel chips made me so happy, it's the most kiwi thing you can say ahh
The fresh durian fruit is actually rather nice. I can’t imagine those candies tasting very good at all! 🖤
Im from malaysia and i cant help but feel overwhelm some of the things u ate are the 'usual' things we eat in front of the tv!
Salted cheese milk tea is addictive. I love it. I've only had it as a topping on top of a warm, black sugar milk tea though. And I love pandan 🤗💚
The humour and dynamic between these two is just on point, and also distinctly southern Pacific. It's so similar to dry Aussie humour so this all hits a sweet spot for me. Curious to try Chrysanthemum tea now 😁
"Christ that's weird..."

I had lotus root for the first time from a food truck when i was living in wellington and I have not captured the delicious nature of lotus root since then
I'm half Filipino, so while a lot of snacks seem weird, I can kinda understand how they put them together.
Makes sense to me now why they'd put that in Halo-halo
@@MioMillefeuille Oh yeah. A lot of jarred toppings for halo-halo come in very thick syrup.
@@GothHoneyBee84 oh yes they do and it's such a perfect dessert for people who love sweets! I personally love the beans and the nata de coco lol
Palm seeds is getting used at this Halloween's party spread. Looks like you could turn them into some wicked eyeballs with maraschino cherries and chocolate chips.
Mr Owl if the two of you ever make it to Maryland in the USA look me up and I will hook you up with the best crabs in the US. Maryland is known for its crabs and crab cakes, even MD crab soup. Here we say crabs, the only meal you can starve to death while eating. Come for the crabs and stay for the beer.
Mangosteen is soooo gooooddd!!! Snapple tea has one with mangosteen that I love. But it would be nice to actually try the nectar!
I love the fact that you are posting videos more often again. I don't know why, but you are so incredibly pleasant to hear and watch.
I had to look up the Pandan flavored Swiss roll. It’s a tropical plant and they use the leaves of it to make cakes. And like you said, EVERYTHING made with it is green
🥤
I’m from Malaysia and so happy you got to try the chrysanthemum tea! Its a nice refreshing drink during a hot summer day :D
🌼🌼🌼
My coworker once had pancake-flavored soda in here Japan from a random vending machine years ago. I’ve never seen it again, though.
This was actually fun and funny to watch. "I'd drink it again out of politeness" lol. I like trying new things. As a kid a Loas friend of mine got me into dry squid and i luved them, not everyone's cup of tea as they're quiet salty & smelly.. i haven't had them for a while though but I'd eat them again.
This videos makes me feel like it's years ago and neither of you look any older you lucky bastards lol. 🖤 That lotus root has gone bad btw. It only smells sour when bad.
I was thinking that! I get lotus root regularly and it has such a mild pleasant flavor
Yes I wondered that too since I've never thought it smelled bad at all!
I haven't watched your channel in years, but dang Mr. Owl is way more chad than he was when I last saw him. Keep up the good work man I'm hoping to come out of my most recent break up the same way.

Durian, I bought one, frozen from Mylasia, my understanding is that a "good" Durian tastes like sweet vanilla custard. As the one I got was frozen and shipped presumably in an unripe state I must conclude that the one I got was not a "good" Duian because it tasted strongly of onions, but not just onions, past their prime onions on the verge of going bad, slimy sulfurous and disgusting. If anyone has had a "good" Durian I would love to know where your from and what it tasted like (presumably ripe and fresh, not under ripe and frozen)
James in California USA
Durian unfortunately is an acquired taste and something to do also with biology as even in Malaysia where I am there are people who love it (like I do, it really does taste like an exotic sweet custard, not exactly vanilla) and some who do find the smell and taste revolting. It is definitely better ripe and fresh. There are different variants as well, some that are more sweet and mild, some that are bitter just like alcohol which some people enjoy. I did not like durian as a kid but now I do like the sweet variants of durians.
@@shersh73 have always wanted to try one of the "good" Durian, suppose unless I visit Malaysia I will not have the opportunity as the ones the US imports are not good, shame, I love exotic fruits
I recommend you watch Weird Explorer's videos on durians. He tries many varieties (as well as other fruits) and talks about why frozen imported durian is not good compared to fresh
@@Jkend199 Yeahhh, you can get much more different types of exotic fruits if you visit Malaysia, they should also be sweeter compared to the imports. Hopefully after everything gets better and the borders all open up you'll consider coming for a holiday.
'It's a cup of cold tea and someones chucked one of those wedges',haha Mr Owl is so funny!!!
Oh the Basil seed drinks are so lovely! Very similar to chia seed drinks but I prefer the basil, it’s more crisp and refreshing if that makes sense.
I love Crysanthemum tea! But my friend describes it as tasting like how you might expect bee pollen to taste lol
I grew up around kids chewing on raw sugar cane, anyone else?
I've never had a fresh sugar cane drink, but have always wanted to.
I grew up chewing on sugarcane but I don't like the sugarcane drink. I have no idea why, but I prefer to chew on it.
I've never had the drink, but when I was a child, my uncle got a bunch of sugar canes and my cousins, my brother, and I munched on it all afternoon.
I tried chewing raw sugar cane and it's the best!

Fresh Durian is like custard. You just have to eat it outside your house....20 feet away lol
I'm Japanese and I would consider Japanese food to be mild out of all the Asian foods. I think the weirdest thing I've tried even though it's not very weird to me is freshly prepared octopus with sesame oil or soy sauce. It's weird to people cause octopus has nerves that keep moving for a bit even though they're dead.
I love this video so much please do this again I love seeing you and Mr Owl in videos together you are both so calming and relaxing to watch 👑👑
Chrysanthemum Tea is one of my favorite Asian drinks. You should try red bean ice cream too. Like frozen peanut butter.

I love that flavor so much 😍
Jarritos has never let me down

I LOVE pandan! I've also had those cuttlefish snacks and I didn't hate it. Ive had fresh durian and the texture adds a whole new level of unpleasantries. I keep a giant sack of different flavored asian hard candies, including a few durian, and have what I call "candy roulette".

0:55 ive never grossed out my spanish husband more than when I used leftover rice and mixed it with cinnamon and sugar as a dessert.
We do that in my country but we boil it with evaporated milk. and is a very common dessert. We call it "Arroz con Dulce"( Candied Rice).
My mom always made me breakfast rice growing up. It was leftover rice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sugar. Cooked in cream. Absolutely delicious and everyone looked at me weird when I ate it. I'm from central Ohio and my family is pretty hillbilly, hence breakfast rice. I always wonder if she got it from a different culture when she lived in Germany.
I went to Japan almost exactly a year ago and I tried some of the strangest, tastiest, and most disgusting things while I was there! Also I agree so much about the milk tea! Every time my friends see me put milk in my tea they're so grossed out by it (especially my friend who basically lives off tea haha) but I've always drank it that way

You guys are brilliant, love both of your reactions to all this stuff

So excited to see you try the Yeo's drinks, most kids in Malaysia grew up drinking that. It is basically canned versions of popular herbal drinks with Chinese Malaysians. Grass Jelly is made from a herb (I guess it does look like grass) that is traditionally boiled and the liquid gells up naturally. Chrysanthemum tea is also kinda similar to drinking chamomile but less strong, its mostly sweet and floral. They are all supposed to have some health benefits based on the traditional recipes but the canned ones are mostly just as a beverage.
The mung bean popsicle you tried is based on mung bean soup desserts that we also have in Malaysia that is boiled in water and sugar till the mung beans literally become soft and melts into the liquids, kinda tastes like pandan sometimes (some do add that in as well) but I also do not enjoy the mung bean skins. This is also done with red beans which is more common.
Birds nest is a delicacy here, some people eat it when they are pregnant and was supposed to be good for the mother and child (collagen and all that? Not so sure). They farmed the birds nest now by setting up places for the swallows in like an empty house. It is still quite expensive and it actually tastes like egg whites and its like a dessert as they cook it in sugar water and I suppose add white fungus as well which doesn't taste like anything.
I've actually tried the Lay's chips even though its not from Malaysia. The grape flavoured chips are actually grape soda chips which is why it kind of tastes fizzy. Similarly the yogurt chips are also yogurt soda chips.
Basil seeds are also added occasionally into drinks here and yes it is kinda like chia seeds but its added more for the texture for that gellied form it becomes. Not sure if its supposed to have any added health benefits, as a kid I thought it looked like frog eggs.
Omg I got a massive excited feeling seeing u two together
your giggle is the best! love watching these kinda videos 🖤😇
