- In Game 1 of the 2014 NLDS in Los Angeles, St. Louis Cardinals 3rd Baseman Matt Carpenter hits a bases clearing double on a 2-out, 2-strike pitch to complete the Cardinals rally down 6-1. Kershaw was 68-0 when having a 4-run lead, and in this game he was spotted a 5-run lead. It's important to know that Matt Carpenter was responsible for the rally against Kershaw last year in the 2013 NLCS Game 6, in which an 11-pitch at-bat ended in a 1-out double. From there the Cards scored 4 in the inning, then 5 in the fifth to win 9-0 to eliminate the Dodgers and advance to the World Series.
kershaw still a playoff pretender not a contender
Got a question. Is Kershaw one of those guys that can't pitch in the postseason? Mike Mussina was like that with the Yankees.
He has certainly struggled against the Cards in the postseason...he's 1-4 with a 6.00+ ERA against them. Against other teams he's 2-1 with a 3.40 ERA. I think the main problem this game was poor managing by Mattingly---he left Kershaw out there who he was clearly fatigued. In Game 4 tonight?? He made just a couple mistakes (and one big one) and got burned. He has a lot of time to improve but when it comes down to it you still want him on your playoff roster....the Cards have just belted him...
cardsfan092493 well not even just in the post season during the regular season he has struggled against them as well, but I think in game 4 nlds Kershaw was to tired for the seventh inning but I cant explain game 1 that was just crazy
