One thing that confuses me about the Phandom is that while almost everybody seems to agree that Phil needs to be shielded from anything slightly negative, at the same time people assume that "Dan can handle it". Am I the only one?

I actually think Phil handles hate significantly better than Dan does, at least in the not taking stuff personally way. At the same time, insulting Phil feels like kicking a puppy, because of his youtube persona. I wish people would take it easier on Dan though :[ I feel like Dan is the one more likely to be hurt, so when people find it easier to attempt being mean to him...well it's not cool. Granted they're adults, but that doesn't mean they're impermeable to hate.
I guess cause Phil is so cute, people feel protective over him. I sometimes get that way over my fave musicians. I'll see a cute pic of them and I'll be like "My baby! My child! Must protect at all costs!" Even though they're all way older than me.
With dan it's like being rude your best friend I guess. He gets the sarcasm/that its a joke more than phil. But yes I think dan is more likely to be the insecure one and sometimes people need to remember that he is only human

This is my opinion but I feel the reason that people treat Phil a this precious little angel while assuming that Dan can handle the hate is because puts out a more sarcastic, confident vibe than Phil although it hasn't always been that way, and it also has to do with the fact that in the Phandom sexualizes Dan while acting like Phil is 3.
Something that really bothers me is that alot of their fans have are mean to Dan as a joke, I've seen it all over twitter, they tweet really mean things about him and agree with hate but when someone says something remotely mean about Phil they jump on the defensive.
As Dan said, a lot of the hate tweeted to Dan is a joke, we have a weird sense of humour (and Dan understands that), but I think they should be treated equally because they're older than quite a lot of their fans and don't need to be babied

It might sound weird but I think Dan was (?) the "depressive one" and he is less likely to take hate than "precious" Phil, who I think would be pretty chill about it.

sourlemoncake thats actually really true, Dan up until rather recently has had a history of really low self esteem, and he still has really bad anxiety (existential crises) but people seem to forget about that and just buy into his sarcastic façade and assume Phil is super vulnerable because he acts childish when actually he's always been pretty confident.

I think the phandom is more protective of Phil bc he's constantly left out of things/ has like half the number of subscribers than Dan/ always has people saying that he's ugly or boring in comparison to Dan.
So I sort of get it.

Even though Phil doesn't have as many subscribers, have you ever really met anyone who only knew Dan? When you see people talk about them its always "Dan and Phil," or "Phan," (at least that's what I see) because they aren't one without the other.

I don't think it's "precious" or "cute" that everyone in the comments is trying to point out how it's awful to send mean tweets to Phil but it's okay to send them to Dan because he seem to laugh them off and don't take them too seriously. It is in no way okay that people send Dan hate, and I think we're all quite upset about that. I think the main reason why people are this protective of Phil is that his internet persona is quite bubbly and innocent and thus 'less resilient; less likely to fight back'.

The thought of Dan reading hate comments concerns me more than Phil reading hate comments to be honest. At first glance Dan looks like the cool sarcastic guy who can't give two shits, but in his videos you can see how he actually cares about things and has insecurities too and can really take harsh criticism to heart. I don't want Phil to be subjected to such negativity, but when it comes to it I think he'd be more confident and generally handle it better than Dan.

Guys, we are sensitive to Phil not because he's "innocent" (for God's sake he read the skin fic), it's because we feel that he gets much more hate and he is more fragile. Yeah, I understand Dan gets hate too. (Ps. There is no such thing called "equal amount of hate" so don't bother.) But he acts stronger than Phil, and we believe that he is strong and will carry on.
Yes, Phil might be older. But age doesn't necessarily mean everything. You might be older, and more mature, but you could be fragile.
I just wanted to say, if Dan and Phil somehow came across this message, just note that all Phangirls and Phanboys not to be sexist (it's a name for our fandom members. Well, in our case Phandom members. It's much easier to say that instead of the Dan and Phil fandom, right?) believe in you guys, and we put our faith in you guys. Remember that the side with valid reason wins, in simple english it means that the Phandom members would do anything to reply to the trolls in the best way they can. We will try not to offend anyone and not be mean.
Just remember the positive side wins, and try not to let the hate bother you guys. I know it's hard, and it's easier said than done. But believe me that 100% of people on the Internet had either been a victim of hate, or saw someone as a victim of hate. Just try to help that person and defeat the hates.

So I want to say a few things (I got some of them clearer from reading other comments).
A) I'm in love with this whole anti-bullying campaign Dan is organising. And I mean truly into it. I can't say I've ever gotten a hateful comment before, but I've grown tired of watching amazing people who I'm a fan of being hated on with poor excuses. There's NO REASON TO BE RUDE!!! It's ABSOLUTELY fine if you don't like someone's kind of work or an specific video, but you can either keep the opinion to yourselve or just comment something like "Hey, I didn't like the video/I don't like your channel, but I can see you make a lot of people happy. Keep making this stuff!". It's not hard to be nice to people. And remember, EVERYONE eventually gets to the hateful part of their comments, so don't go thinking "I'm just gonna say this really hurtful thing cause I'm sure they won't read it". Trust me. They do. So go #NicerInternet !! Since the radio takeover happened, I've red TONS of messages and posts full of love. KEEP GOING!!
B) I'M SO NOT SAYING THAT IT'S OK TO ONLY ACKNOWLEDGE DAN'S TWEETS AND NOT PHIL'S, but I PERSONALLY feel like Dan has a different way of facing it. If he (Phil) has never talked clearly about any of his hate tweets (because even though we all see him as a ball of nice stuff, I'm sure he gets them), it may be because he doesn't feel confortable with it and THAT'S ALSO FINE!!
C) I admire that (and that's what I personally think about it. it's just a feeling I get) they have this be-proud-of-each-other thing. When this whole takeover stuff came out, Phil was "Dan is hosting it" "Dan did it" and it was so nice to just watch. And everytime there is something 'off' with Phil's side of the phandom or along those lines, Dan will be one of the first ones to deffend him. I think that's just awesome and I wish everyone in this world got a friendship as strong as theirs.
So yes, I deeply admire them both for all they've achieved so far and I'm proud to say I'll be here till the end :)

These comments disappoint me. I would protect both of my children from hate but like they said in this video they know to just ignore people because nothing good comes out of if. Your need for a sort of part 2 to this with Phil's comments shouldn't make you feel like you have to go around telling people that this video is unfair.

Saying this video is unfair doesn't make sense. You can say you want a video of Phil doing what Dan did in this video, or that you crave a video of that sorts, but saying this video itself is unfair is rather silly, for the reasons I stated earlier.

This video made me feel really bad because Dan and Phil Both have bags under their eyes, and not like normal bags that most humans have, but like massive bags. Which I don't know if they were there because of lack of sleep or stress but it just made me feel very bad to see them in such a state. I love that they tend to not care much about hate but just the fact that they have to distance themselves from what people say is just sad because I want them to find joy in what they do and not have to distance themselves in such a way that they don't actively experience all aspects of what they do. I don't know it just seems like it takes away from the experience, having to distance from fans. Then the fact that Dan kept laughing and from what I've heard he does that sometimes because he's awkward and I don't know if was actually feeling sad or not, or just didn't know how to handle it. I don't know if he was just feigning being used to it or if he actually doesn't care much. So it just made me feel really bad.

He was at playlist for a week without much of a break because of having to do things for playlist and meeting fans and promo and stuff, and then he had to get on a nine hour flight from Florida to London early in the morning, probably didn't get much sleep because we all know how anxious he gets sometimes, and then only had a few hours to rest up before he was whisked away to do a video for the radio show. And to top that off, not even a full ten hours later, he had to do his live show thing for #NicerInternet and now he's got other smaller things he's doing, plus he's due for either a main channel video or a gaming channel video any day now. He looks tired because he IS tired, and it has nothing to do with a "passionate night with Phil", I can promise you that.
Trust me, mate, I ship Phan as much as the next person, but I get tired of seeing everyone relate the smallest and simplest of things back to their 'relationship'. Dan has been working and on his feet nonstop for the past two weeks. I would look like death, too.

I get that and i would never say anything awful about either of them. I just know that Dan handles it better because he feels that way about himself to. I'm glad they could just laugh it off, but I still get so mad when people are rude and disrespectful to my idols. Dan and Phil are both so sweet, funny, and amazing. I will always stand up for them, because they don't deserve any hate. I wish I could just hug them whenever people try to bring them down.

Okay in all honesty-- both Dan AND Phil should be shielded from the hate. Seriously some think that Dan can take all the hate seeing as he has had low self esteem issues in the past and maybe even now being that thick blanket of sarcasm and smiles. Phil on the other hand is 28 (Turning 29 soon if I remember correctly..) who has a pretty high self esteem and loves himself yet gets hate about how ugly he is and to go kill himself. In any possible occasion there are really mean UA-cam comments, tweets, Facebook posts/pages, and horrid Instagram about THE BOTH OF THEM.
Phil isn't a little child (I hate to break it to you!) anymore. He's grown and flown away and kept his head held high while Dan even though it might seem that he is the same is all just a illusion. Sure Phil is childish and cute and sure Dan seems sarcastic but maybe that's just not the case.
What I'm boiling down to is that both of these men that are precious to their families, friends, and phandom. We all have to treat them with equal respect and equal kindness (If you are being sarcastic then that is totally fine! But don't take it too far.) even if I do sound like some weirdo-- I love these two with all my heart and I would never take what would happen if something happened to one of them-- Heck both of them!

I feel like this might have been supposed to be a thing where they both read out negative stuff to each other, but someone realized Dan would have to go to jail for murder.
