Yer mate .. I don't know too many yachts that you can sail in these sorts of breezes to windward and once balanced I can let go of the helm and eg check the plotter and know that it will keep tracking and self-adjust to gusts and even waves ... no autohelm needed which can fight the yachts natural balance and risk dropping the rig ... love it !
yer true mate and I'm with you on this ... but the problem is that the short-sharp chop of Moreton Bay can make sailing fast at narrow angles to the wind very uncomfortable .. eg I have a Melges 24 and its really suffers some days when we are pounding to windward .... answer is hydrofoils I reckon !!
Sorry as realised I didn't respond to below ... rig is standard and so is single-line reefing systems ... I did upgrade the purchase on the vang to a stupid 48:1 which works well ... and also the halyards to spectra 10mm jib and 12mm main .. I do balance and check the rig regularly though but rigging is original from 2002 .... ... Do you have a Bav34 as I wanted one of these originally and only by chance got a 36 due to a deal .... ? .. reckon they would be better than the 36
yer mate ... its either in your blood or not .. and there aint no cure .. its why I sail alone as no one seems to share my enjoyment of bashing a cruising boat into rough stuff
35kts and allready so less sail and poor stabillity. You really need to go for other hulltypes :). Try semy longkeel, shorter mast and longer boom, for example... These hulls are built or this kinda weather. Try to go sailing on a bristol pilot cutter or something for a change. You'll enjoy it. P.s. Don't underestimate the sea ur she'll take you're life...
I could sail with you forever my friend. Truly awesome sailing. A man after my own heart for the upwind sailing...
You must be a windsurfer at heart!
Great video, thanks for sharing
Great job mate, I sail a Catboat Nonsuch 26 and love bashing into 30kt wind, single handed of course
Damn, its so cool. Cruiser 36 is my dream.
