It broke my heart when Portia said "if only one or two women go into the bush (to pick shea nuts), it's likely they won't come back". What a horrible, terrifying thought for those poor people!
Equally depressing and inspiring. As someone who suffers from chronic pain I just can’t imagine how these incredible women are able to work so hard day in and day out, and for so little, when they clearly deserve so much more.
Sudam's dedication to preserving her family's mirror-making legacy is truly inspiring! Her craft, passed down through generations, shows the beauty and strength of tradition in the face of challenges. 🌟
I could listen to Viviana talk forever 😭 such a sweet gentle voice, i truly hope she is well as well as all the other admirable ladies here ❤ what a world we have
absolutely fascinating.... when all the robots and machines stop working - only traditional hand made crafts will survive. this knowledge is so important to support.
I think it’s a great idea, but someone said they didn’t want to seem to be supporting one particular artisan and instead focus on the industry. I don’t know if it’s true, but it kinda makes sense.
I’m assuming (at least the first clip) that some don’t have the time or resources to feasibly ship internationally without having to charge in excess for shipping
What an educational offering! I would love a link to the pottery. The talent of continuing these artforms is amazing and I so hope this documentary helps all who were featured.
My husband and I worked together in our pressure washing and painting business for years. It was hard work, but we had a common goal and we kicked butt together.
I found Viviana mesmerising and beautiful. What a lovely voice she has. May God bless her and all of the inspiring women in this excellent video. What a lovely world this could be if there were many people like these women. ❤

At 37:07 , there is a mistake; Cochineal already existed in the old world before the conquest of the new world. But it was not that same crimson red as mexican cochineal. Pre Colombian exchange vivid red dye was derived from the different cochineal native to the old world. Persian/Armenian cochineal (Porphyrophora hamelii) was native to middle east all the way to Armenia and the shade of red dye derived from it was called "KERMES", which was used extensively in middle eastern to far eastern textile arts. In Europe, Polish cochineal (Porphyrophora polonica L.) had a range all over central Europe and was the most commercially important source of red dye pre Colombian exchange. The dye produced was called "CARMINE" or "Saint John's blood" and was used by religious figures and royalty alike Notably, both types of cochineal in the old world have a history far longer than that if new world cochineal with Armenian cochineal being mentioned all the way back to the 8th Century BC. So with all this in mind, I find it astonishing that the team didn't do their research and due diligence and ended up writing a script that's laughable and ludicrous in it's claim that cochineal red dye was introduced to the old world after the discovery of the Americas.
Shea butter is truly amazing I suffer with eczema and other skin conditions and this cream clears my skin and also these ladies who make it have beautiful youthful skin , I will only buy traditional butter though it’s a lot better ❤❤they work so hard these ladies ❤❤
It is amazing to see all these skills and traditions being preserved by some, as sad as it is also, to see it fade away with some of them. Great video❤
Vivianna reminds me of my maternal grandmother (the only one i had) who also reminded me of Grandma Coco. I will buy anything from this woman!!!!! She is such a badass!
Thank you for this inspiring content ❤ I may not remember this in the long run, but at the moment, it's great to know unique cultures I have never known before. These women are very inspirative in so many ways. The mirror making made me curious how different would it be from our day-to-day mirror. I think that would be a fun experience to try! 💞
I write while watching the mole segment. I recently lost my grandmother, so hearing that the mole being made for the segment is for mourning, the emotions came back a little.
Thank you for the celebration of women! They are indeed the strongest sex! As evidenced by biology. Unfortunately, societal norms and standards continue to subjugate women in a much lesser role. If the world was ruled by women, I believe that wars and other world problems would non exist. Unfortunately, we don’t have the opportunity. Thank you for sharing and such a positive message for women!
At 14 minutes 40 seconds when the lady said how she worked making thoes candles for the church for exchange for food,I thought that was nice but allso a bit unfair, thoes ladies work verry hard and should be given more than food for there skills,I'm happy to hear things have changed and now they are getting paid
All these artisans, businesswomen and men are incredible, I'm impressed. That's why even God continue to protect their businesses no matter the disasters and difficulties they face, because they put their heart, love into them and they use ways that don't destroy the nature or humanity at all!! Things like these inspire me! It's better to do something meaningful not only to your life but to the life of others. No matter which business you do always make sure you are serving people right and you are not destroying their lives while using your products and you are not cheating them taking a lot for something that doesn't have value or something that will kill them. If you do it that way, God will always provide for you.
My mom loved trying all those “modern” foods. My dad loved Cool Whip. My eldest son (in his 50s now) loved Tang. I had to come on Tasting History to hear about Tang Pie! Probably won’t try it as the only part I would like is graham cracker crust. But, wonder what it would be like with chocolate cookie crumb crust???
It's so sad for the cochineals of Mexico that it is dying slowly. It reminds me of another prized product they were once famous for: natural Vanilla. Unfortunately, several countries like Madagascar found a more efficient way of pollinating and cultivating the Vanilla orchids and so Mexico was left behind
Only wish more women got fair market value for their labors. Hopefully, their pay will be augmented in years to come to reflect the unparalleled and exquisite talent they demonstrate. TY for posting.
Equally dispiriting and motivational. How do these extraordinary women maintain the ability to work so industriously day after day for such meager compensation?
I would like to have that authentic handmade Indian Mirror someday.... All these handmade products crafted traditionally handed down from centuries are truly special , should not vanish, should not be transferred to mechanical form...or else it will loose it's magical properties.
It amazes me that there are farms like that cochineal farm that ive never seen their youtibe channel cos i would buy their cochineal all fay for dying..
These amazing women are doing what they do with passion & skill! There are women all around the world who do the same at whatever they do - because the pride they feel of their accomplishments are highly esteemed by family, friends, & customers!! Also, Mexico & Guatemala have many of the exact weaving & culinary traditions because Guatemala’s territory once encompassed & ruled over the lower part of Mexico. Therefore, there’s no difference in many of their cultural traditions, but the Media only tends to profile Mexico, that’s a big error!!
These people and their crafts are amazing!!! I do hope that they’re able to live comfortably especially financially and good health from their labor. It hurt my spirit when the man who takes care of the sheep begged God for mercy because his job is so hard!! I hope that he receives mercy and more!!
