Keep these coming. So cool, I love it. Been wondering what to do with my tool to start with. I want to make things people will actually use/be happy to get as a gift.
Beverly O'Malley Thanks! I’m so glad you liked it. I’m working on another set of videos coming out soon. I also love to make practical functional pieces. It’s so rewarding to turn an old piece of wood into something new. :)
Just got my colwood in the mail last night. Can’t wait to open it and do some projects!!! First time EVER doing this. I’m a bit nervous....ok maybe just excitement nerves 🤣🤣🤗🤗
Great technique and you have amazing skill for such a cheap tool! You should invest in a nice burner and pens. It was the best investment in burning I've ever made. Don't have to wait for tips to cool and heating is almost instant. (For your algo I was searching wood burning ideas that sell)
Question for you. The butcher block conditioner. Do you recommend using that for pieces that will be outside? Also can you do that then put a finish on the board after?
Hey Karen! I don’t recommend butcher block for stuff outside. It won’t last against the outdoor elements. I’ve never tried it, so I’m not sure what would happen long term, but there are some better options for outdoors like Spar Urethane. And I’m not sure about mixing it with anything. I know there are some varnished that can be layered with one another, but over never heard of using butcher block that way. Maybe test it out on a scrap and see what the reaction is. You never know how those types of things are going to mix until you test it.
I might suggest when you use the straight edge with the pen, I would turn the pen 180 degrees so that you are only using the point of it, not the whole edge.
You can. It will absorb in. If there’s excess, I just use a clean cloth, wipe away the excess and let it sit for a while longer until it is dry to the touch. And you can reapply again in the future if it starts to dry out. I have a cutting board that needs reapplication about once a year or so.
Hey Susie! I just use a mechanical pencil. I like to see where I've outlined already; and the metal stylus kind of gives me the willies. I don't like the way the metal feels on paper. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me. But there are a lot of people that use it just fine. If you search for a metal stylus on amazon, it will pop up. amzn.to/3vD7Nr8
Yes! It's a food grade conditioner that people use on cutting boards, so I used it here on the rolling pin. We don't use it on food, but we could. Thanks for watching.
I had to take a break from using a versa tool. It kept falling off of my craft table at the market, and breaking tips off inside, where I couldn't extract it. But it worked nice and fast.
Jessica Land I have an exhaust fan now. It’s in my ceiling and there’s a tube that runs down to my desk. It pulls the smoke away from me and out of the shop. Before that, I used a small desk fan and another fan in the window to pull it out of the shop. :)

Claudette Sova I’m so sorry you can’t hear me. I’m not really sure what to fix because it comes through pretty loud and clear when I watch it. I wish I could get a sense of how it sounds for you so I could know what to adjust. Thanks for watching!

Can you "use" the rolling pin after the butcher block oil dries?
You can. It will absorb in. If there’s excess, I just use a clean cloth, wipe away the excess and let it sit for a while longer until it is dry to the touch. And you can reapply again in the future if it starts to dry out. I have a cutting board that needs reapplication about once a year or so.
Good workthanks
Thanks Grace!!
Beautiful work as always!
paul sappington thanks Paul!
How many times considered put on
I love it ♡♡♡♡♡
So do you suggest different tools? Or can you use one tool for all of it?
What stylus are you using for outlining

putting that conditioner on, does that mean you can use it on food?

Erin Wall Yeah, mine does that too. I got an extension cord and put it closer to my table and that helped.
This is my first time doing this. What do u use to protect you from the burning smell?
Jessica Land I have an exhaust fan now. It’s in my ceiling and there’s a tube that runs down to my desk. It pulls the smoke away from me and out of the shop. Before that, I used a small desk fan and another fan in the window to pull it out of the shop. :)
Great idea's do you ever sell the thing you make? Keep up the good work and great idea's
I do sell some things on my Etsy site, but I kept this one. I wanted to have a piece to hang in my kitchen. :)
Cool...
There wasn't any smoke?
Probably a little. I was burning at a lower heat, so I doubt there was much heat.
