I remember the Land Raider effectively being a blank during 2nd edition. Some older people had them left over from that mysterious game that came before but I never saw one until the new model released during 3rd.
I had an original but needed to add to my forces during the dark ages of 2nd and early 3rd when none were to be found. There were Leman Russ tanks though and those could serve as the basis for a scratch built Land Raider many, including myself, used.
This took me back to the wilderness years of the Land Raider. Luckily I had 2 from Rogue Trader but we all wanted more. I can remember all the WWI kitbashes (I think one based on the Mother tank did even appear in White Dwarf) and many of us tried to make versions of the one in Epic (our first glimpse of what would eventually come to 40k). But, back in the day, we could go through whole editions without having models to represent what was in the Codex.

It's a mighty machine, and you've done it proud. Like you I never saw one in the shops, just saw them in the occasional battle report, and the ad in the one old White Dwarf that was my first, long before I played the game. Speaking of its resemblance to the old WWI tanks, I remember a White Dwarf where they featured - after the original kit was retired, but before the new one was announced, so I guess it wasn't 'competing' with anything - a kitbash Land Raider based on an actual WWI tank kit. That, the Shampoo Bottle Hover Tank, and the time they put the plans for a plasticard Baneblade in the magazine for folks to scratchbuild by themselves, are kind of my holy trinity of the early 'eh whatever' attitude to the game, before the 'official minis and only official minis' attitude swept everything else away.
I got into 40k very end of 9th ed and these kinds of videos are really pushing me down the retro hammer rabbit hole. Already painting my primaris lads up in a pseudo 2nd ed paint scheme and am slowly acquiring a collection of 2nd and 3rd ed marines and terminators. Would very much like to get the chance to play with the old rules some day.
i have the old land raider, predator, chimera and rhino(x2). Even the boxes haha. SO many old stuff including the boxes up in my boardgame room. Love it :)
My favorite Land Raider moment was in 5th edition when my crusader (blessedly plastic by that point) disgorged its full capacity of master-crafted thunderhammer wielding assault termies on my friend's wraithlord and he just picked it up without making me roll. Pretty nice feeling after spending most of 3rd and 4th watching my White Scars bikers getting ripped to shreds by starcannons.
Nice end product, looking very much like the box art/White Dwarf stuff from back in the day! The pictures and artwork features in White Dwarf magazines were salivating for me! When I was a kid at my local library where the librarian knew me well she always knew the first thing I wanted to check out was the newest issue of white dwarf and at times even stashed it aside for me. This was Finland in the 90's and early 2000's. I think now I haven't seen any libraries with White Dwarf magazines. Maybe the license for it got too expensive. And now I will fulfill my nostalgia needs by acquiring a land raider proteus! Perfect timing for me as I've started accumulating a Space Wolves army, giving me a reason to get it!😅
Truth be told, I never cared much about the raider of land originally. As someone who got into the hobby like a year ago, and has never been interested in the universe previously, I just saw it as a "lol, big rhino". When I found this channel, however, the land raider song got stuck into my head and I started singing the first few lines to my GF. Eventually, the meme song endeared us to the model and we gifted each other one of the new land raiders, one for my DG and one for my GF's 1000S. We just built them and we are very excited to paint them!
I gotta level with you, Matthew, great video first and foremost, but you have opened Pandora's box here and now the next logical step is to add a tiny speaker to your land raiders that could play that song, and the one with the functional opening front ramp seems like an ideal candidate at least lol Keep up the quality content! Cheers!
@@Miniscape-wh40k I look forward to this now, and I would go so far as to suggest that the tinnier and more distorted the sound you can get out of that theoretical tiny speaker the better.....to maintain a mid-90s sound quality of course
Well, the singing alone is worth a thumbs up, nice work on getting the whole family involved. Great job on this little bit of entertaining silly fun. Thank you for putting these vids together, always end up with a smile on my face after watching them.
Somewhere .. in a manufactorum, deep within the Imperium, a diligent servitor gathers and packs the requisitioned parts, humming to itself "landraider .. raider of land". Nice addition to your collection, pleased the terminators are excited, who doesn't love a land raider. Great song, much better than those marching dirges of the imperial guard.
Ironically, this edition of the land raider actually looks tall enough for Terminators to climb into. Don't ask me how a Dreadnought is supposed to enter and exit the vehicle though. 😄
I'm pretty sure the Land Raider model was designed the same way as the Rhino, where the top and bottom halves are the same piece, just flipped over. I've got several OG Rhinos/Predators, but not the LR.
I still have my 2nd edition box in the attic, and one of these vehicles sitting painted like the box art, just without any highlights or shadows.. My 14 year old self thought it looked great.
I’ve been searching Apple Music for the Land Raider song but can’t seem to find it 😢. Your retro army knocks the socks off all the fancy shmancy Primaris armies with their “pro” paint jobs! I’m off for a brew….😙🎵 land raider, raider of land…
Well, that's next year's Eurovision sorted then! A pleasant surprise in my recommendations - thank you.I've always loved the original RT land raider but, like yourself, was (just) too late to purchase one from GW. However, I did manage to score one on ebay a year or so ago for a very reasonable price. I've stripped it down an cleaned it up but can't bring myself to paint it (think drinking vintage wine - once you've popped the cork.....). I was looking to get the Forgeworld Proteus but held out when they announced the Horus Heresy one. Unfortunately, this left me disappointed as the profile was more akin to the 40k land raider than the RT one. This 3d print looks bang on so will definitely check it out (may be the push I need to get the printer!!!) Thanks again 😊
Very cool, such an iconic model. Just as a tip from someone who does both scale models and tabletop: parts like handles, antennas and other thin bits are best replaced with metal way before painting; resin is waaaay to brittle. Handles can be bent from paperclips or similar, while guitar sting or stiff steel wire are good antenna material.
The part with the makeup brush made me laugh.I did that exact thing.we’re divorced now.I’m pretty sure the two things are unconnected.well pretty sure anyways.
Thank you for this presentation. I have ''liked'' and saved it as a reference for later. I have a couple of old Ebay Mk1's , well 1 1/2 really , that I have big plans for at some point in the far future ,probably around the year 40 K. (I guess I missed my previous 2000AD deadline ) . The better one of the two I intend to do as ''box art'' so I hope you don't mind if I copy your homework. You model really looks nice .
I loved those old early 90s models. The rules were easier, the Dark Angles were painted black, the primarchs were never the same between any two lores.
Great job! one tip: next time you can try to use a thick foil as a core for the flag (you can bend it as you want flag to be) and then plait it or glue the decals/paper - it will be much more natural.
Ok I'm triggered. I painted some of the Ultramarines chapter that was in White Dwarf while working at GW. Then the store I worked at, we painted an Ultramarines army for games nights... Then my manager gave it away to our area manager for a new store that was opening. I was gutted, it was a really nice looking army. It's because of that I've never been able to paint more Ultramarines 😂
Dang it, Matthew! I bought a Land Raider yesterday and as I was assembling it I started signing the song out of nowhere.
My work here is done 😁
Entertaining, esp for those of us that only DREAMED of having real money in the 90s

This guy came up on my recommended and I absolutely love this video so much!
Glad you like it
I have the land raider song stuck in my head now, I think I'll annoy by brothers by singing it all the time 😂
That ditty really cooks!
That army is absolutely gorgeous 😍
Grand old dutchess of tanks, love it
I've only ever seen it from the front or close to facing the front; wow those proportions were a surprise.
Been waiting for this for so long, and boy it was worth the wait. Crisp and awesome as always bud!
Also the skit 😂 hahaha
😅
i have the old land raider, predator, chimera and rhino(x2).
Absolutely and I relate to that situation
Excellent ! Thanks. i have one Land raider 2nd édition that need to refurbish, i will sing the song while doing it
Yay
awesome xD that brought me much joy, thank you!
I am pleased ☺️
Howard? Cool Jazz and Land Raiders... you've gone mental!
Perfect timing for me as I've started accumulating a Space Wolves army, giving me a reason to get it!😅
It sounds like a cool library
That song is Christmas #1 material.
😍
I flipped one of mine upside down and added a rhino to the front per the WD article and...TAH DAH. Spartan
That's fantastic. I hope you enjoy them ☺️
I get strong Mighty Boosh vibes from the narrative and the music.
Wow!! Straight up nostalgia punch to the head!!
I gotta level with you, Matthew, great video first and foremost, but you have opened Pandora's box here and now the next logical step is to add a tiny speaker to your land raiders that could play that song, and the one with the functional opening front ramp seems like an ideal candidate at least lol
Keep up the quality content! Cheers!
That is a legendary project. Thanks mate.
Thank you. I am glad I can spread some joy and you guy just encourage me 😅
Somewhere .. in a manufactorum, deep within the Imperium, a diligent servitor gathers and packs the requisitioned parts, humming to itself "landraider .. raider of land".
Nice addition to your collection, pleased the terminators are excited, who doesn't love a land raider. Great song, much better than those marching dirges of the imperial guard.
😅 I hope it becomes the imperium's earworm.
Great job looks fantastic
Ironically, this edition of the land raider actually looks tall enough for Terminators to climb into.
Don't ask me how a Dreadnought is supposed to enter and exit the vehicle though. 😄
I'm pretty sure the Land Raider model was designed the same way as the Rhino, where the top and bottom halves are the same piece, just flipped over. I've got several OG Rhinos/Predators, but not the LR.
That ending was family abuse for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember the land raider kit when it first came out 2 kits for 12.99 it came out a year after the 3 pack of rhinos came out for a tenner
Haha it's in your head now. It's not on any music streaming platform...yet
I'm going to be singing that song all day
What a lovely video, subscribed.
Thank you 😊
Great burrito video, right up to the
Last few.moments
I love that wifey is willing to indulge you like that 😂😂😂
The only thing that this kit is missing is the Turn Signals.
Oh, what a flashback. #tsoalr 4 the win
This 3d print looks bang on so will definitely check it out (may be the push I need to get the printer!!!)
Thanks again 😊
I am glad I could entertain :)
Thanks. I shall try that.
The part with the makeup brush made me laugh.I did that exact thing.we’re divorced now.I’m pretty sure the two things are unconnected.well pretty sure anyways.
God damn i need a Landraider ! Might have to add sone music to your song !
Love the song, great video 😂
Thank you 😊
Can't wait for the original land speeder video, you could start an album😆
Good idea
Wish I still had mine.
Edit, Proper Job
Nice model and catchy song!
🥰
I love Oldhammer. It was so silly and over the top.
It was 😁 that's why I love it
It's pretty over the top nowadays as well 😄
11:56
Any chance for a remix? Its not bad! I'm being genuine...its not bad.
It's very bad though and that's why I love it 🤣
I rescued a quite beaten up last year for my 30k dark angel army. Fantastic design.
I think the design is horrible.. 😂❤ but i feel the retro vibes..
I bought my double pack on the day of release. I think I even queued up with other teenage nerds.
It's cute. It reminds me of a Metal Slug tank
Very nice! Your Ultramarines tank collection continues to grow…
And there is another waiting 😁
Nice paintjob!
I wanted one of these soooo bad
I see miniscapes, I likee
Very cool, just subscribed, hello from Australia
Hello there 👋 thank you
Thank you for this presentation.
Please do copy away. It would be my honour. Thank you.
It was nearly thirty years ago, but I want to say the actual kit had a tread gap problem.
Yeah I think it did
😂😂😂😂 Loving the wife inject sections
Glad you like them!
I have 4 of these sat in boxes upstairs and I don't even play 40k anymore. Should probablky sellt hem
Sitting on a fair chunk of cash there. I would give one a home 😉
@@Miniscape-wh40k well if you're in teh UK I'm sure I could sort something
@@Thunderwolf666 I am in the UK
I loved those old early 90s models. The rules were easier, the Dark Angles were painted black, the primarchs were never the same between any two lores.
Great job! one tip: next time you can try to use a thick foil as a core for the flag (you can bend it as you want flag to be) and then plait it or glue the decals/paper - it will be much more natural.
I considered it but I didn't have the desire to search for foil. Might try it next time. Next land raider...do I even need another land raider? 😅
Matthew is my hero
Oh stop 😊 I'm just a guy
Got mine in the twin pack. Went halves with. A friend in 91
lol smooth watchin 🤙
The only 40k mini i want is a deoderant can land speeder
Thumbs up and comment for the excellent song 👏😊
💪
I had 3, but sold one to my friend for 20€ last year because he deserved one. Rogue Trader models were affordable in the early 2010's.
That was great lol
"Land, raider" I'll keep an eye out on Spotify
any way of finding out where I can get the STL File for that Land Raider would be great thank you
That song had more hooks than a tackle box.
You found it catchy?
Ok I'm triggered. I painted some of the Ultramarines chapter that was in White Dwarf while working at GW. Then the store I worked at, we painted an Ultramarines army for games nights... Then my manager gave it away to our area manager for a new store that was opening. I was gutted, it was a really nice looking army. It's because of that I've never been able to paint more Ultramarines 😂
