I collect astra militarum...my first army. Painted them horribly. I had some necrons from my starter box and followed this almost step by step (added Cristals on bases using contrasts)... I'm about to tear out of happiness. They are beautiful. My first well painted miniatures ever. Thank you.

Having worked through about half of my Indomitus Necrons, this tutorial, more specifically the makeup brush technique, really helped me out.
However, this video changed the way I build models now. I tack my minis to a base and then texture the bases. I've been doing it in batches and it has really sped up the overall time needed from start to finish when I'm adding minis to my army.
Two extremely handy tips that I use quite often now. Thanks Uncle Atom!

I just saw this recently and decided to risk finally putting paint to plastic, using this as a guide. I gotta say, I had fun - a LOT of fun, painting my first Necron. I'm normally a Deathwatch guy, but I've been having some faction fatigue, so decided to give the Space Undead a shot... glad I did. This was an amazing (and amazingly simple) scheme to use. Can't wait to work up to the bigger guys, ESPECIALLY Senor Skorpekh! and try out the inks and filters...THANK YOU!

I used this method to paint up a post apocalyptic cyborg warband for Stargrave and Space Weirdos. Used Robbed Cyborgs from Ramshackle Games. They turned out great. Really made them look the part of grungy, warn, and ill maintained machines. Their red robs also really popped with the tarnished copperish look.

I've been doing my necrons with the spraying black and then drybrushing silver technique. I picked up an old start collecting box to get some different types of warriors and other models (plus that ship thing is too cool), and I've been testing this technique on them to also prepare for the big box. It makes painting metal soooooo easy! I also love using this technique on swords and on guns. No more 3 layers of nuln oil before a final drybrush to highlight it, just black base, then drybrush with dark silver and maybe some light silver extra highlights. I think I got my warriors and the other gun guys from the start collecting box done like that in just a couple of hours, at which point I could focus on the fun things, like actually painting the details!
    Thanks for the video!

3:04 So much this. Priming your terrain is pretty much always a must, especially if you're not just using a texture paint like Astrogranite. Most of my bases are actually dry dirt held on by PVC glue, but it's the primer that makes the dirt stay on so firmly that I can drybrush it really hard without bits of it getting stuck in the brush.

I'm totally new to this whole painting minis hobby.
I've tried my hands at a couple models, but, stuck with some fairly basic techniques.
I've watched dozens upon dozens of videos.
Whether they were made to teach or simply entertain, I've absorbed quite a bit.
And, I think I want to do some unorthodox styles and techniques.
It seems certain colors and styles are used quite frequently.
But, what if I mixed some silver with a bright yellow and green then proceeded to dry brush a necron warrior with red basing?
I dunno, but, these techniques and ideas have given me such a drive to paint more minis!
Even if they don't look good, they're still special to me. :)

Vis a Vis push fit, I would trim back the plugs a bit. You want to get the rims of the models to mate so there are no big gaps left that need filling. I found this to be the problem when I took on a project to build a paint a Plague Marines army. The other thing, I have seen a few videos now to get tips on painting skills. Necrons will be my first attempt to use an airbrush and I have an idea in mind for colour schemes but it aint going to be pretty. The final thing. GW have pushed the idea that the Necrons will be showing battle damage and ware and tear. I have an issue with this in as much as these creatures fought epic battles, went to sleep for 60 million years and woke up like yesterday. That combined with reanimation protocols would suggest a logic error in GW approach because relative to 60 million years rust, scratching and damage is an instantaneous thing and I don't think that would last or the Necrons would not last. I mean rust happens visibly in our lifetimes of 70 years. So I don't think Necron systems would reflect this. It's regeneration/reanimation or recycle parts. Think there is enough in this for one of your discussions?

I love this - they look amazing! Would you say it's ok to prime in black with a brush as opposed to spraying it on or would that not work well for this technique?
