A funny film that still did catch me off guard with a couple dramatic moments and gave me a little food for thought. I didn't expect that, but it was a fun watch! Thanks for voting for it. I hope you enjoyed my MOVIE TITLE movie reaction & commentary

"I've had a rough year, dad." "I know you have Chaszy." That is always the line that gets me, every single time. I love that you've seen this one now! It's probably my favorite Wes Anderson, though several others are very close in the running. But this one came at just the right time for me so it will always have a dear place in my heart. And you're right, the soundtrack is crazy good, it introduced me to some artists who I still listen to on pretty frequent rotation today. In fact I may turn on some Nico as I work now!

It’s such a powerful moment! Love that the soundtrack is still in rotation. :)

Best line delivery of Ben Stiller's whole career. I only knew him from Zoolander before I saw this movie and I couldn't have been more impressed. In a movie full of great quotes this one stands out.

This is absolutely one my favorite movies. Definitely in my Top Ten. Another wonderful film from Wes Anderson is The Life Aquatic.

Danny Glover falling into the pit still makes me cackle.

Great reaction! I definitely agree with your analysis at the end. To add one little note - something Wes Anderson & co. do really well is making characters who may seem very strange on paper, feel absolutely real and grounded. A celebration of human quirks 😊

You put that perfectly because the characters definitely aren’t “grounded” but yet still relatable? Wild. 👏

Huh! I had never made the link. Royal Tenenbaums 2001. arrested Development 2003.

One of my all time top movies, pretty much tied with Grand Budapest for my favorite Wes Anderson movie and I like all his movies; this one feels like the one where the style and substance, the comedy and the drama, are most in balance. Amazing cast, amazing editing, flawless soundtrack, really glad you watched it and enjoyed it!

I saw this six times in the theater. To this day I will still yell out when watching someone do something they have to think about, “Where’s that red one gonna go?” Even just watching the briefs clip in between your reactions got me misty-eyed. I think Bottle Rocket is my favorite Wes Anderson film (and possibly my favorite film) but this one is only a step or two behind it.

Among my top five favorite films
I noticed on my 10th watch or so (lol I love this movie) that as much as Margot despite Royal, she exhibits similar traits, even down to the color or her coat

Thank you for such a great reaction! Love the entire breadth of Wes Anderson's films. The only film I still need to watch is the French Dispatch. For some weird reason I haven't got a chance to watch it yet. Need to correct that now.
    Keep up the great work.

The paintings on the wall. OMG! I had completely forgotten about those. When I saw this movie in the theater, there was this growing laughter for about 10 seconds or more as it took a bit of time for everyone to notice them. Absolutely hysterical!

One of my favorite movies of all time..top 10 for sure!!! Can't tell you how stoked I am to see you reacting to it! It's very JD Salinger's 'Glass Family' from his short stories...which I think is partially why I love it so much.

Love this film so much. An all time fave but I hadn't seen it for a while. So thank you for your reaction.
A cool element is the ambiguity of time and place. To shoot in NYC and manage to make one of the most landmark cities in the world look basically anonymous is quite a feat.
And the very stylized costuming of the characters gives few clues as to time. Really only Ethylene's Armani ensembles look contemporary to circa 2000.
Fun note: the dalmatian mice were spotted with Sharpies 😊

Gene Hackman was in a classic 70s disaster movie called The Poseidon Adventure. There was a remake but I prefer the original.

Gene Hackman did not like Wes Anderson at all while making this movie, as him and the director didn't see eye to eye with each other on how the script was being rewritten during filming.

I've seen 4.3 of Anderson's movies. This was by a pretty large margin the worst of them. It wasn't bad, but I would recommend two of the others over this one easily.
