- In 2007, when a 2-year-old boy from Chennai played a perfect drumbeat on his bedroom floor, it became obvious that young Lydian Nadhaswaram was destined for greatness. It began with him accompanying his father and sister on stage for gigs and watching his sister practice the piano at home. It was then that Lydian developed a fascination with the instrument. He would practice alongside his sister, playing Beethoven and Chopin without any sheet music, relying upon on-ear and intuition only.
This now 14-year old has skill unlike any other and is proficient in a variety of instruments, amongst which piano, drums, sitar, and bass guitar are notable. With just 6 years of practice, Lydian’s fingers fly over piano keys effortlessly, playing classical melodies at breathtaking speeds.
He has since participated in a variety of national-level competitions, before participating in, and subsequently winning CBS’s World’s Best in 2019, playing two pianos simultaneously for his winning finale. He is now a student at KM Music Conservatory, an institution by the A.R Rahman Foundation, and receives international level training in both Western as well as Indian classical.
With appearances on popular American television shows such as Ellen and Good Morning America, paired with unparalleled determination, persistence, and a hunger for learning this young prodigy is well on his way to success. Most likely they were but the microphone just didn't pick it up. You can see this at 5:32 when he turns the handheld mic on and you can hear the end of applause. This is probably what happened to all his performances.

@@benwilcox1192 It's because the audience at TEDx gatherings isn't as evolved as those attending a classical concert. With the exception of the organizers of this TedX and a few aficionados, not many were ready for Lydian.

For people who say the audience didn't clap. For your info. All were clapping and encouraging him. The piano is directly connected to the camera audio input. Hence you cannot here the audience sound. But while he truns on the mic you could here the audience sound.

Lydian's public speaking has become so good. I saw him on World's Best a couple of years ago and have been following his UA-cam for a while now. Multi-instrumentalist and is now also singing - so impressive for someone of his age. I especially love his mastery of soundtracks.
I mean the kid is even named after a musical scale!!! He was born to be amazing!
Talent is not only playing any instrument in higher tempos but also grasping notes, conceiving the feeling imbided in them, fully merging in performance, dynamics, embellishments, creating new songs either by taking some best portions from other songs or listening to our heart and soul. That way legends are grown. Lydian has all of them. I'm happy that I'm watching a legend is growing up Infront of our eyes just as MJ. When an artist creates anything which has social value in it, then that artist becomes valuable legend.
