The interior of the IS500 is perfect. It balances useful physical buttons with a modern but not overly complicated touchscreen. I've had my IS500 for over 1200 miles and no complaints whatsoever. A lot of people are clamoring for the NX infotainment update but its not aesthetically pleasing or easier to use. In 20 years the IS interior will have aged very well, you can bet on it!

5:39 Thats how most AT work tho. You need to drop it into sport or choose your gears to get the quickest response. Case in point in traffic. You see a placement you want in traffic start to open up. You then downshift yourself. Done now your in a higher gear for a split second that door opens you mash the pedal (assuming you checked for safety) take your spot. If you hadn't done this you could have lost your opportunity due to the lag of time from the tranny. Sport in the 2020 ILX works for this as it has a DCT which is the best thing about the entire car.

Called my local dealer yesterday. Wanted to buy an is 500 f sport. None in stock in the near future and starting at $10,000 over msrp when they do. The auto market sucks really bad right now.
The IS500 Premiums come with a sunroof. It wasn't an option on some of the prototypes or press fleet. Many people will critique the infotainment. Infotainment isn't a deal breaker for me because the system is functional. Wireless Apple Carplay and digital dashes aren't high on my priority list. Ultrasonic Blue with that white interior would be my top pick. David from AP got lucky... lol
While the touchpad still isn't great, Lexus finally did the IS right and gave the 2021s a touch screen with Carplay/Android Auto that most buyers want and would be fine with.
i fell in love with the white seats and with my is fsport 350 mine didn’t have the sunroof which was irrelevant as i have always had one but never used it as i like my car clean without dust….

You are right. Driving in automatic is very dull. The only way to get the most out an IS 350 or a RC 350 and above is to drive in manual mode. Get the most out of the engine and transmission's performance. I can't drive RC 350 F-Sport in auto. It's just so dull and rather boring. I have to go through the gears my self to get the most out of the car.
I am curious why this is allowed for sale in the USA and not Australia. Does the USA have weak side impact protection rules?. This is the reason Australia was told they can't import it here is lack of side impact protection. However if it really is that poor how it is on sale anywhere?
Honestly, I enjoy driving the IS a bit more compared to the RC. It feels a little better balanced for my tastes. I think that’s partly due to the Frankenstein nature of the RC chassis. I prefer the IS 350 to the RC 350 and I actually prefer the IS 500 to the RC F.

The is500 RC F LC500 represent the backbone of what exactly lexus should be doing in all their products. Lexus needs to make RWD platforms, give them the driving precision, the LC interior, and as a bonus offer that glorious v8. Now that is true luxury. Imo it’s not totally unrealistic. Genesis is doing that way better in their products, so why can’t Lexus? Just taking a Camry or corolla, dressing them up, and charging 10-15K more is not luxury whatsoever. It’s blatant cost cutting, something unacceptable for a luxury brand, given the fact that in luxury, you expect perfection, next level I mean the stratospheric next level of luxury over Toyota, and Lexus precision.

The dated interior kept me from buying this car. I opted for the LC instead. And I know that's quite a delta but still that's what I did AFTER canceling my 911 order I put in place Feb of 2021 which went no where, falling to the LC order in Oct. Honestly if they plan to keep the car around for a few more years and they do. They absolutely should have given us at least a new dash and center consol. The seats and door panels could be left intact. Who cares about that.
My question would be: "Why would Toyota put all that time and money to put out a dated power train that won't be worth a nickel once Gasoline is no longer available. I would NEVER buy a long termer Lexus that is racing toward approaching obsolescence."

LC is a better car. But the sedan is far more convenient

I could care less about the infotainment in this car. V8 and mark Levinson and I'm set
In comparison to most cars, the IS500 is outdated but it still functions well. What features do you consider outdated?

@@naveenthemachine this has more tech than the LC500, and I'm okay with that. I still would like to know what's missing? Is it a comfort or safety feature? Most of the time it's just a creature comfort complaint.
The new NX infotainment actually sucks. Surprise. The IS500 is the perfect balance of old and new.
