ROCKSHOX REVERB - What goes wrong and how do I fix them?

  • In this video I look at the dreaded bouncy dropper post, and more commonly, the Rockshox Reverb. This isn’t a “how 2” video, but more an exploratory look at what goes on inside a Reverb, what causes the issue and why flipping the bike upside down and pressing the button doesn’t pix them…

Great explanation, I've sent mine back to sram president, he can use it as a paper weight. Installed a oneup v3 and never buying a RS anything again

Reverb’s suck. Like many others, I ditched it for a OneUp v3 … no issues. It actually works! Fluid to actuate a dropper post? What a joke. Cable all the way … OneUp lighter, better, easier. Great video though on the reverb process. Thank you.

You can go thru this nightmare rebuild every 6 months, or simply fully retract the seat post after a days ride. Leave it compressed over night, raise the next day for the ride. This expels the excess air. Works for me. Give this a try.

Hmm, this sounds counter intuitive to me. When the seat post is compressed, the air is under quite high pressure. It seems natural it's more likely to leak through the seal into the oil in this state. On the other hand, when the post is fully extended, the air in its chamber is under atmospheric pressure, so it should be far less likely to leak into the oil. At least that's what I got from the description in the video of how these seat posts work.

Best repair I did to my Reverb was replacing it with a OneUp

I see them all, and not one post is significantly better than the other - and yes, the reverb is a little more sensitive, but looked after in my opinion is still the best post out there.

I strongly believe half the problems people have with these droppers is just due to mechanical incompetence/understanding. They simply don’t like the fact they require a little bit more maintenance.

And add to that, people pick the bike up by the saddle when in the dropped position… the number 1 cause of post issues is this!

This is the number one issue with ifp type post never touch the saddle up or down its a hard habit to brake but once you do you post will be happy alot longer .

Great video. Where do you find is the cheapest place to buy the service kits? Would a 200 hour kit solve this issue? The 600 hour kit is steep!

Hey hey! Would love to hear any advice on my reverb issue. Its stuck in the downward position, but can be pulled up by hand. It thens seems to be pulled back down to the bottom position which makes sense based on your video. I can pump it full of air, but it slowly losses pressure. That made me think there is some sort of leak. Any advice on how to track if the leak is within the dropper itself or the remote? The remote looks like it could have been impacted in a crash. The lever does feel like there is resistance though. I just dont want to take it all apart if i dont have to. Ive just been riding with it down lol. Would be nice to have it working again.

Hey bud… yep, IFP has shat itself which is why the post is holding down, and you pumping air straight into the hydraulic chamber - which you’re seeing as a leak. Nothing a service can’t sort! Replied to your message on FB as well buddy 👊👌

This dropper should be band, must of thought they were onto something with a fully hydraulic system but it causes me more headaches than anything. Never again
