Not musically related, I just want to share that it has become a tradition for IU to sing "Good Day" whenever she gets invited to weddings of those she is close with or she has worked with ---her managers, professional dancers, and producers.
Ironically that high notes makes her famous. But imo her voice isnt suitable for belting high notes but then again she was just 17 and was experimenting with her vocal ability. I think IU really shines during Modern Times era, as well as Chat-shire (this album really screams IU). And i am so excited on her upcoming album. Even her pre-release singles are good cant wait for the whole thing!
Some Artists have openly talked about how they delayed their releases by a few weeks because the original dates would have been in the middle of IU's slayage season... expectations are high.

Well, there is the irony that having too much music theory knowledge hinders one's ability to make unique, creative music. If she didn't ever go for every little quirk, it wouldn't have been IU and she wouldn't have been as popular as she is now.

I've heard he's actually one of the people that made Good Day also. I read that IU practically "begged" for Jae Hyung to make her a song thus born Good Day
+GYUEI no. this song is made by lee minsoo and its lyric is made by kim eana. the song she has to beg from jung jaehyung is not even in the same album as good day, it's l'amant and it's in last fantasy album.

Compared to IU here and now, I definitely think she's grown a lot as an artist and she knows her vocal ability. She has more control over the songs she puts out, too. I'm really looking forward to her full album coming out in a few days!

If you want vocals, please do react to Park Hyoshin. He's considered to be one of the best solo acts in Korea and though he isn't popular internationally, he is definitely a favorite with koreans. Fans actually gave him the nickname 'god hyoshin'. His voice isn't only the bragging point with him. He sisngs with so much emotion you won't need much. Just his voice and a very simple music video. This isn't really a popular choice when it comes to reactions but please do give him a chance. I really think he'll suit your tastes.

i really like these videos cause they know what they're talking about, so it's not just a bunch of people watching a music video.
They do, however they also leave out artistry and purposeful artistic choices sometimes. I liked the ones who mentioned "maybe that's what she was going for" because oftentimes, yeah, it was.

I love IU but I'm so glad they don't make her do these crazy belt notes anymore. It's out of her range and, while impressive, can really damage her voice (and rarely sounds good fully live). Her newer releases are a lot better imo, and does more justice to her as a vocalist.
It's even more impressive if u knew that IU wasn't forced to do these high notes, one of the biggest things about her company is that they never forced her to do anything ever. I know its sounds weird, but her company at this point is even thinking about why is she still in the company. They really thought a lot of times that they didnt deserve her, and thats so funny lmao cause she loves the company and thats why she stayed for so long and she has her own band.
She even went to the wedding of her backup dancers to sing! their relationship was always amazing.
And yes, the high notes were forced but because she wanted to change her own voice wich she did over the time and thats impressive i think i need to breath
@@mochiks9548 Anyone can tell that she's *straining* to reach the note. She has to hold the note for 8s ish which is really long, and if we're true fans we should wish for her NEVER to do that note again because it really damages her voice :( Also high notes don't define the singing ability of an individual

Ah, it's nice to hear your honest opinions about IU's three high notes. That was seven years ago and she has improved. On the side note, it was not really how high the notes were that made her famous but her ability to hold those notes, especially with all the choreography and the song getting higher and higher.
IU once shared that those two highest notes were not originally there but when she did the recording, she wondered how high she could go and belted them out. The arranger/composer recorded those without her knowing then they just got along with it.

Fun Fact: the hilarious "music guy" is actually a well-known composer and pianist Jung jae hyung. IU wanted him to write a song for her so much but he only took part in the mv. He did give her a song on her 2nd album. :)

Great video! But a bit disappointed for not showing the vocalists' reaction during IU's last high note. Doesn't it make more sense to show how they react to that instead? I can kinda imagine their horrified faces to hear IU's strained voice.

She was extremely young you all, you cant expect her to have a super defined style and on stage personality at that age

iu is one of top vocalist in korean along with taeyon, ailee, hyorin, and many more solo artist..but the difference iu from other vocalist is she can play guitar and make her own song plus this is the first song from iu thats make me into her 😊

IU isn't really below those other singers, she just has a different tone, she has a higher range and has a very strong delicate voice, she is very skilled but some people overlook that because of her quirky concepts
vocal experts have been analyzing their vocals and IU is not as good as the other 3..that's why I said that with conviction..it's not just my opinion..
could you do like a reaction to a evotion of Nu'est songs? I feel the need to spread awareness because they are so underrated to the point where they have bowed their heads and went on to produce 101. Its hard to explain the whole produce 101 thing, but basically after 6 years of poor ass management, the group is using the survival show, produce 101, as their last chance at u know keeping nu'est alive. You should have them react to Through the Night by IU or her new upcoming music because it's more up to date and what she herself regards more of "her style". She's also more known and loved in Korea for those kinds of music rather than the more "kpop-py" songs! It's why people in Korea don't really consider her to be an idol

+nazura syafiqah she was originally supposed to debut in a group called suPearls with artists like lee hi but just before the debut YG decided not to debut them and lee Michelle was dropped. The group didn't debut because YG didn't think they would be very popular because the members didn't fit the ideal standard of Korean beauty

I do admit, I like IU's songs that are not quite so high. Fun little fact, the composer and lyricist have tiny cameos in this music video. And the music man that keeps popping up in this MV is a composer and music director (not on this album though), fairly well known particularly because of his appearance on Infinite Challenge.
For solo artist, I suggest Lim Kim, and Park Hyo Shin.

Can you please explain what "modulation" is? All of you seemed so ...shocked by it.

Modulation is the movement between keys, for example, if a song is in C and then in the middle of it goes to Dm. This keys have chords in common, so it doesn't sound weird. So when IU is singing and the songs goes higher, is a modulation. If she didn't come back to the original key, it would be a transposition.
Actually, when it comes to vibrato many singers are taught how to control that at a young age. My vocal teacher made me learn how to keep a straight tone when I hit high notes at a very young age. Although it does happen naturally a singer is stronger if they can prevent it. Also with the whole "her voice isn't as present" once again they have a point, but when I hear comments like that I'll always remember one of my favorite vocal and trombone instructor (the man does everything that has to do with music XD) told me; "Although we we force technique and tone into your head from day one, always remember that music is about emotion. It's always more enjoyable when I can feel your whole heart in it." He told me this after my voice went slightly flat in a very emotional performance. Although I find their critique interesting, I also feel like they didn't just try to enjoy it as much as the other music students were. Believe me, I've been studying vocal music for over 11 years now but I found music more enjoyable when I didn't let myself critique everything a pop singer was doing.

IU is just 17 years old when it was release. I'ts her second number 1 after the song Nagging. She introduce me to KPOP. She will always be my number 1 kpop singer that i love the most. And can you believe it she is more good with in singing live than the recording. She was tease by her friends thunder of MBLQ, Jieyon of T-Ara, Suzy of Miss A, Luna of Fx and many more as CD girl. She's eating CD everyday plus she love and enjoy what she does not treating it as work or means to get popular or to get wealthy. where she is right now is the result of her hard work. Proud Uaena here LOL!!!!

Damn love the technical breakdowns you guys do, makes me appreciate the music even more. Some of it I don't even notice yself so it's nice to have people with more of a wealth of knowlege on music than I do to point out those modulations.

IU isn't the best technically, we all know it and it's ok, but her voice and vocal color are the things that make her songs good (+ great arrangments). So it wasn't the surprise, that her famous 3 high notes are not so good techincally, but it's still one of the greatest and most memorable k-pop moments ever (fight me).

I really love this channel, they judge the music for what it is, most channels these days don't really criticise the music or give their honest opinion (IDK if they are scared to loose subscribers or something) they just watch it and you can tell they don't like it but they pretend to like it. I like that this channel disagrees in a way that doesn't insult the music but actually gives constructive criticism. Probably my fav reaction channel now, especially the blonde guy and girl that judged the high note, they're my fav.

I'm not sure if anyone mention about that guy playing all the instruments in this video. He is actually pretty famous in Korea. He has graduated 'Ecole normale de musique de paris' and make background music for drama, documentary and movie kinda thing. He is a pro.
