De Niro. Pacino. Pesci.
The holy trinity of mob acting.
On my life
Gandolfini and Assante rounds out the top 5.
@Chloe Welsh Dude you probably never saw Mean Streets?
@Chloe Welsh there's no way you could make this list and deniro not be in it.
@Chloe Welsh Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Casino, and The Irishmen. De Niro was flawless in all of these roles he is undoubtedly in the holy Trinity of mob movie acting.
While not a movie, James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano has to be amongst the best
@Steve Turowski That was real? I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit.
Soprano isnt realist
Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby in “Peaky Blinders” for me.
He’s not as authentic nor as realistic, but his performance was mesmerizing. The best i’ve seen in the last decade. He’s totally up there at top with James Gandolfini rip
Sopranos is legendary
Small hands that was his problem
Joe Pesci in Goodfellas, set a standard. When a movie character gets you to hate them, so, the actor has nailed it.
How can you hate ol Tommy Desimmone 🕴😂
@@frankwoods9680 well idk I mean he was a rapist, he did kill multiple innocent people
Casino is also great
I kinda liked his character. I couldn't stand karen tho
Above a standard, Pesci was extraordinary!
Al Pacino also gave a great performance in "Carlito's Way."
Agreed but he didn't play an italian mobster in that one. he did great as Lefty Ruggiero doe.
LOVE THAT MOVIE!!
@@ernestpratgarriga9879
Jack Nicholson, Denzel Washington and Johnny Depp were not either
@J H
No doubt. It was a great movie
I think Carlito’s Way is ridiculously underrated
Honorable mention: Chazz Palmintieri in A Bronx Tale
Such an overrated movie.
“Now youse aren’t leaving.”
Most definitely....... I posted the same thing... among others
I think he was in Poolhall junkies as a sort of gangster. That was a good flick. My favorite billiards movie for sure.
@@negativeindustrial Overrated?
This has got to be the most interesting and professionally made UA-cam channel in a long time
A high ranking ex-mobster, direct acquaintance to John Gotti and the five mafia families, now turned Christian and commentator, and one who left the life and lived to tell about it
Unbelievable!
It is indeed unrealistic
Word
Armand Assante as Gotti. What a towering, powerful, magnetic, and commanding performance. At times I forgot I was watching an actor perform a part. Thank you for the recommendation Michael!
@@michaelfranzese Thanks for putting me on to that film! Its incredible
The guy who played sammy the bull was very good too.
@@peaceLove1988
I agree
The movie is free on UA-cam. I must have watched it 20 times
@@peaceLove1988 William Forsythe. He's a prolific character actor and totally got overlooked for his performance as the Bull.
Agree about Pacino in Donnie Brasco. Probably his most underrated role.
@Matthew Shannon came here to read that. Carlito's way is my favourite Pacino movie.
His portrayal of Left was great. It wasnt the typical Poweful leading charector Al Pacino is known for.
@Matthew Shannon Carlito's Way is amazing, but is not even close
to be underrated as Donnie Brsco is.
Carlito’s Way... ehhhh 🥴 I think Sean Penn kinda ruined it, for me..
@@TheSweetestScience Sean Penn was so good in that role Rockstar Games basically copied his appearance and character for Ken Rosenberg in GTA Vice City.
Al Pacino was different in all three Godfather’s. In the first one, he was a personable man and very human knowing of what he’s getting into. By the time his father is looking into the fish aquarium and he’s announcing the move to Nevada, he remains a cold, stolid, and businesslike man. In his personal life, he’s cold and cruel. In part 3, he’s become a human being again, outgoing, jovial, and caring, but haunted by his cruel ways from before.
a year late but thank you for teaching me the word stolid lol
@@afurrydodo5965 Impassive, unresponsive, dull, emotionless, indifferent.
Forgot ROBERTO DENIRO AS YOUNG VITO CORLEONE
He got a Oscar for that role
and once upon a time in america and brooklyn and the irishman and probably a few other mob movies what a legend
Maybe because he wasn’t technically in the mob during the flashbacks ?

Thats a great idea
Yes!

Are we gonna talk about his Pacino impression?! And he wasn't even trying. I bet if he gave it some time, it would be spot on. A hidden talent.
The hardest part of a Michael Franzese video “That’s it for today”
I needed this. We bury My Brother tomorrow...God Bless all of Us!!!
When ur almost asleep and you hear that ...
For a minute you sounded just like Al Pacino when you said "I got sent for", it was pretty spot on sir!
How Robert De Niro prepared for and executed the part of a young Don Vito in GF2 was amongst the all time greatest. Also in that class: Al Pacino in Donnie Brasco, Joe Pesci in Good Fellas and Chazz Palminteri in A Bronx Tale.
Joe Pesci all day everyday.
Robert Dr Niro's performance in Casino was Epic
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Same with Heat
@@DMalltheway Sure, I'm going to have to say that for Al Pacino as well 😁
@@imran15cassim De Niro was a badass in Heat, in Casino he had others do his dirty work.
That was like new level shit
The biggest Crime Micheal Franzese has ever commit was placing Robert De Niro on the 10th place
Lol, I agree
Yeah....I think we know why
Yes, he should have left him out.
Trump Supporter I take it?
I know. What a joke.
Depp absolutely disappeared into the role of Whitey Bulger in "Black Mass". That movie is so underrated imo.

Cagney's last scene in "Angels with Dirty Faces." Incredible.
It's really magnificent. Cagney was the best of his type and time.
James Gandolfini needs an honourable mention for Tony Soprano! Undoubtedly a classic
@Steve Turowski lol well of course
Definitely the best portrayal of all time
If you’ve been watching Franzeze you would know he hates that character. “If a mob guy was to ever see a psychiatrist he’d be killed by the end of the week, along wit the psychiatrist “
@@MitchellBahamas but in this context it is about the performance not necessarily about the character. We all know the psychiatrist part is a great exaggeration. However as a mob boss, that was a great portrayal of "the life"
@@maximomgwadira1687 ok since you put it that way. I can get on board with that
Most underrated and should make any list: Harvey Kietel and De Niro in Mean Streets.
Always loved the rawness of Mean Streets. Very underrated Scorcese flick
Yeah, but they were not supposed to be considered as mobsters.
I feel like Johnny Depp also did well in "Public Enemies" and played alongside Pacino in "Donnie Brasco." The guy did a fine job in all regards.
And black mass
@@eznf98 he mentioned Black Mass so I didn't bother, even though that's my favorite of his.
@@aspiringjoker2883 I know he did, just insane that he did 3 different types of mafia/mob/gangster movies
@@eznf98 he’s great actor in mob movies 🏴☠️
Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger scared the fuck out of me! There's a scene when he goes upstairs and talks to the wife of one of his men, she's heard or said something she shouldn't have. Then Depp as Bulger stands at the door and talks to her in a low voice. He never yells or gets physical, even his words are innocuous; but the scene utterly terrifying. Maybe it's because I'm Irish, but that's most frightened I've ever been by an actor's performance.
The way Whitey died is about as terrifying as it gets.
The dinner table is ‘stone cold’
@Ladyintheriver Castin Seen the movie? Hell yes he's an actor, no matter kind of person he is off camera.
@Ladyintheriver Castin Thought we were talking about Johnny Depp? I how did I get involved in all of this?
@@oduffy1939 he's a very gentle human being off camera..he's just been smeared by the media and his ex wife is a proven layer. I can't wait for him to win his case so we could get him back in such amazing movies.
Al Pacino is just such an intense and crazy dude. He could fool anyone into thinking he's legit just with his personality, it's great! I especially loved him in Devil's Advocate.
Denzel Washington is my favorite male actor. He is excellent in his roles and is a very good person.
I love him in everything he does. Man on Fire is my favorite of his though. OT I know.
He’s got the most swagger hands down. In real life he is a man of intelligence and common sense.
@@elethaduffy976
Man on Fire is definitely in his top 3. Performance wise, Fences is his best.
@@joewas2225 great picks. I would say Malcolm X is his best performance. Hurricane is also really up there
Prime Joe Pesci would have been perfect for Scarfo and Roy Demeo.
Roy Demeo never came back after Richie Aprile got through with'em. Toughest guy in Essex County.
@@ernestpratgarriga9879 lol
I would LOVE to see a movie about either one of those guys!
I've been waiting for a movie about Nicky Scarfo played by Pesci for years
@@rodcav3 yeah to bad nobody picked up the idea 😔
Viggo Mortenson is underrated and unparalleled in History of Violence and Green Book
I thought talking Vigo Mortenssen you would mention Eastern Promises. He was brillant in it.
Bro the green book was the best i heard the real tony lip talks in tony soprano they talk the same viggo is one of the best
The Green Book is very good. I liked that movie a lot 🎬
Had the best director of the lot. Better than Scorcese even.
This an unpopular opinion but for me it’s Ray Liotta in goodfellas
Great performance. in my top 10 for sure
Remember that Michael Franzese is a bit biased when it comes to Henry Hill (Liotta's character). He admits that it's a good movie and good performance but Scorcese's Henry Hill was portrayed in a much better light in the movie than the actual guy in real life. It's basically the movie Henry Hill would make of himself - not accurate when it comes to Hill.
@@AJR-zg2py yeah I understand that

Massive props he mentioned Edward G Robinson and James Cagney two pioneers of the gangster movies genre
Not a movie, and I’ve commented before, but Vincent curatola playing Johnny sack on the sopranos is an outstanding role! Couldn’t have played that part better. Magnificent portrayal of a mob man.

No doubt.
A marvelous actor. Loved every scene he was in.
Hes great playing Johnny!!
"Senator, you can have my answer now if you'd like" . One of the most powerful scenes, helped to understand how much power the Mob had in those days.

It's been a mob week for me, at least the last five days. Watching Michael Franzese's videos, loads of other stuff from UA-cam and netflix. Sicilian mafia too. I've had this fascination for deceades and I do these marathons time to time. Greetings from Finland!
LOVE your content, I was rough years ago and an alcoholic. The Lord delivered me in one night with no withdrawal symptoms from anything. The more you're forgiven the more you appreciate it. Great to see your family and business doing well. Been catching your interviews for years. Glad you have your own platform to say what and how you want to.
Absolutely LOVE the fact you're digging up the older actors like Cagney and Anthony Quinn. Masters of their craft and should not be forgotten just because of the newer blood. This is really a great list. They're all fives to me but I think your ranking is probably more fair.
Thanks for the shout out to Denzel, well deserved. I would also nominate Forest Whitaker in "Godfather of Harlem."
Honestly Michael, i'm so glad i found your channel. I've been going through a hard time for the last couple of months, and your attitude, stories, and most importantly, the lessons you deliver have helped me so much, i can't even begin to describe it. I grew up without my father in my life, so i never had a male role model in my life, and that really affected me due to not learning at an early age how to be a man, from a male perspective, so it was great finding you. Your a great role model, and i have learned many life lessons from watching your videos. Keep it up, and thank you.

Been following you for months and am striving not to take you for granted because I can only imagine how much work it takes to deliver the content you give several times a week. You no doubt have a good team. Thanks again.
Appreciate you calling out to older actors. Even back then, they set the standard.
Denzel should have gotten an award for, not a gangster film but, awesome acting skills, Malcolm X.
American gangster was outstanding as well from Denzel !
I have been saying it for years now
American Gangster, Training Day, Malcolm X and Glory are by far Washington's best performances.
American Gangster and Malcolm X are two of Mr. Washington's best performances. Man on Fire is great too.
The one when his son needed a heart was outstanding to ! great actor!
“I got sent for, i got sent for...”...you nailed that impression 😂
Chazz Palmintieri is under rated. A Bronx Tale a classic.
Cagney in, angels with dirty faces, white heat, the roaring twenties and the public enemy is just sublime, angels is on another level IMO superb.
I think Mike did a great job on here. Unexpected choices, not cliche. Older movies too. Totally loved that he mentioned Denzel. He was absolutely ruthless in “Training Day”. Honorable mention: William Hurt in “a History of Violence”. Loved Anthony Quinn!!
Hi Mr. Franzese, I love all your videos. You’re always so intelligent and interesting to listen to. Keep doing what you’re doing. I know you are a real inspiration to a lot of people.
Idk if this counts but Al Pancino in Scarface was amazing he really had everyone thinking he was a Hispanic man
Armand Assante was my number 1 for all time performances playing a gangster. He played Gotti perfectly. He was born to play that role.
When he said, "I got sent for"...that was a spot on impression of Pacino.

Abe Vigoda was Tessio in the first two Godfather movies. He is one of my all time favorite actors. Edward G. Robinson was also a noted art connoisseur. Anthony Quinn was a good friend of Frank Costello.

Yes! I knew Marlon Brando as The Godfather would be #1. He’s absolutely brilliant. Hard to believe they made him audition for the role and they were actually thinking of casting the British actor Lawrence Olivier as the Godfather. Of course Marlon Brando nailed the audition and the rest is history.
Lawrence olivier , would of done well in out roles and with this role Anthony Quine .
Laurence Olivier is among the greatest British actors of all time. He could play any role and he definitely tops Marlon Brando, but Brando would have seen that as a compliment, that is how good Olivia was.

I always thought Harvey Keitel was really underrated in his performances.
My favorite scene in the god father that I think is so underrated is the hospital scene from beginning to end. It was so tense and almost horror film like hiding his dad. Getting the random Italian flower guy to help him then the payoff when they had to have the best poker faces of their lives to make the hit men drive away. Just amazing.

These 3 gentlemens are born for mob movies and characters they can't be replaced ever . The others are just good .
Joe pesci is better than deniro just my opinion to call the rest average is ridiculous
I love Joe Pesci but I disagree. De Niro pulls off more of a Mafia guy type of vibe. While Pesci can be terrifying from his outburst, De Niro is more the quiet psychopath, who will smile in your face and before you know it your head is bashed in with a baseball bat.
ANTHONY QUINN IS AMAZING! AND GOTTI WAS PERFECT PERFORMANCE, ALL ANTHONY QUINN MOIES ARE REALLY GOOD. I LOVE BECAUSE HE EATS IN EVERY SCENE LOL HE MAKES IT ALWAYS LOOK SO GOOD THE WAY HE EATS.
I personally think Robert De Niro deserves a 5 especially for GoodFellas, Casino & even the classic The GodFather part II & Once Upon A Time in America
Me : I don't like this idea so much...
Michael : You're gonna love it !
Me : I love it !
I recommend you check out “Public Enemies” or “Heat”
That movie is good. Johnny Depp did a great job playing John Dillinger
