Good morning Gary. Those bees are interesting Critters. I think we will be trying it at some point here in the future. We went to visit some friends a week ago. They live 5 minutes from us, they have bees, and we didn't even know it. They've had pretty good success so I can get advice when I need it. They gave us a tub of honey and it is so good. Guess I will cut lawn this morning for the last time this year. Have a good day my friend.
Good Morning! That's great!! If they are willing to help, give it a try! It is fun. The first few years, ours did really well. From one hive, we were able to make enough splits to get 5-6 hives after a few years, but since then, it's all been downhill. If you decide to try it, study up as much as possible first. There's a LOT to learn and a lot to go wrong. Having some idea of what to look for really helps. I really like unfiltered honey. The little wax chunks and things just kind of add to it. I need to mow the fairgrounds grass once more too. I hope you have a great day also!
Praying 🙏🏻 for your bees 🐝 to make it through winter and produce plenty of honey 🍯 We’re assessing damage today from Hurricane 🌀 Helene. We are battered & soggy, but I think we did okay. Our neighbors to the north, not so much. We’re heading up soon with sandwiches and water. Have a great day ❤
Oh man....I'm sorry to hear you had problems, but glad it wasn't worse! I've never been around a hurricane, but what I've seen on TV, it doesn't look like a lot of fun! Have a great day if you can!
Chicken looked like he was quite relaxed. It rained yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks. Refreshing. Back to cool temps and lots of sun here. Enjoy the day👍👍
I wouldn't say things are looking pretty dismal now. The main thing is for the swarm to successfully overwinter. Best of luck to the bees! Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.
Yeah, I have never tried bee keeping because of the cost and unfortunately the loss of return. Some people seem to do good with it. My brother tried it and was not successful. Hope they make it through winter. Y'all have a Blessed Day Friends! Justin
It's enjoyable, but not cheap or easy. So many people think you can just set out a beehive and do nothing except gather the honey....it doesn't work that way. There is a LOT to go wrong.
Good morning... Sure is some beautiful country you folks live in. Very Dense Forest in my part of the world... Never the less, it is all beautiful...have a great day...
Afternoon Gary, I've got wild hives here that are 15-20 yrs old that have never had a hand on them. They seem to manage themselves just fine. I do have swarms turn up in chimneys and old buildings and if they can be caught they generally do okay. Not seen a swarm this yr which is unusual but we had a bad summer. I'd consider it a hobby if you enjoy doing it, still a cheap hobby compared to most even with a the investment.the 👍💪
@@MuskratOutdoors yeah I was thinking that your area is extremely hard for them. It's so dry and barren compared to England! We have a mixture around us some crops but mainly grass fields and hedgerows dividing fields of probably 15 acres max. There is a fair number of people keeping bees in the last 10yrs also, it's become popular with clubs/organisations.
@@bumpkinrocks It's hard to say. Every place is different. Some places have problems with small hive beetles, we don't have that problem, but the mites are bad.
They are alive. I lost all 4 of my hives last fall to mites. Bought 3 starts again April 14 of this year. They produced 80 pounds of honey in supers by August 14. At present, they look fantastic. Using Formic pro, the pads are supposed to go between the brood boxes. The paper stays on. To prevent swarming this year, I tried what is known as a demaree split. It requires a GOOD queen that produces lots of brood. Ends up being 5 boxes high. The top 3 become supers with one being a deep. lots of vids on that split here on the tube. They did not swarm and produced a bunch of honey. You have some nice gentle bees there. I really like beekeeping as a hobby. This is our 3rd year and the most honey we ever got. I have planted a lot of prairie type flowers here which the bees used from the summer solstice to frost. Spring honey is made from trees. This bunch of bees missed the tree bloom this spring so this years honey is all wildflower honey. Good luck with the beekeeping. I am always interested in it.
Wow! That's great! I'll have to look into that. I'm actually surprised they are doing OK after all. I think part of the problem this year is that it got so hot and dry. There really wasn't a lot out there for them to find, not even many dandelions, but they always find some pollen.
I would have left those queen cups in that hive just on the off chance they were replacing a failing queen or if the hive swarmed on ya Mr. Muskrat. Frederick Dunn on you tube has a lot of great information on beekeeping also Sir.
@@MuskratOutdoors I also thought about the breeding flight Sir, with the way the weather has been these past few years. It is a tough decision to make for sure. Ya know your weather pattern better than I sure would Mr. Muskrat. Good luck with that hive for the winter I be praying it survived for ya'll Sir.
Mornin! Wishin yer bees was in a bit better shape! They are livestock in the strictest sense, aint they? You have give em a good barn, protect em best ya can, just to trust that they use the range and come back. Strange critters. Have a great one!
Bees are a farmers best friend. I certainly would love to get involved in this endeavor and perhaps one day I will but I have to many irons in the fire. All the best & the best of luck with your bees.
They are. If you decide to try it, study up as much as possible first. If there is anyone around willing to help out, or give you advice, that helps a lot too. It's fun, but there's a lot more to it than most folks realize.
Good morning. I hope the bees work out for you. I saw a person took a Mason jar full of bees and poured icing sugar on them and shook it a bit. Not hard but all the mites that fell off was crazy. Anyways I thought of you when I saw it. Have a great day
I've heard of that being done too. I've never done it, but our friend who has helped us has done that. The mites will kill the hive if they are bad enough.
Me too. From what I've been hearing it seems to be becoming more and more common for them to have problems. Some blame cell phone signals, and other things....who knows?
Great video Muskrat. I've always wanted to try that. I've been looking into it and there's few Bee keeping classes coming up in January. I might go to....thanks for sharing brother......👍🤙
Thank you. Give it a try! It really is fun, but go to that class and study as much as possible first. Other places have better luck than we have had. Really, ours did great for several years, but the last few sure haven't been.
I enjoy my bees. They are one of nature’s greatest wonders. You wonder if you are going to get any honey or not. 😂😂😂. Great video buddy I enjoyed every second of it.
No they are not. They are European Honey Bees. Same with Dandelions. Those were brought here for several reasons, but one was because the bees need them in the early spring. Good Morning!
Sounds like today's beef cattle...although obviously they are indeed "domesticated livestock" and ain't bison, it seems every farm show I watch they just a PUMPIN' those things full this n that. I see Dexter, Longhorn, Highlander, other heritage breeds all making a "backyard" comeback. Good luck with your bee's, that's my taxidermist's thing too. (I get mine from him in glass, no plastic)
