Ah so glad to see the Gomesa radicans! I got one after seeing one on your channel awhile ago. I quite like the tiny flowered ones - I have lots of showy plants but the little subtle ones are easy to breeze by they sort of act as a reminder to me to pause, draw in close and look for the little flecks of beauty around us too.

Those plants look like giant ones in comparison of my last purchase: a Pleurothallis grobyl. The flowers are so small, you need a magnifying glass to see them😉. But it’s not always the size that matters: how different they are from the rest of our collections makes them interesting😍

I grow lots of miniature orchids in two BiOrbs. These large terrariums regulate themselves with a built in hygrometer, fan and misting system. They also have a built in timer set at twelve hours on and off. I have Masdevallias, mini Dendrobiums, pleurothallids and other small orchids. If you do a bit of googling you can find beautiful minis.

Hi Matthew, great refreshing video! I thought I was the only one that was completely bored with miniature orchids that I can’t see without a magnifying glass. Ha ha ha. Thanks for the video.

The tiny orchids are my favourite :) You should check out the genus Trisetella. Very compact plants with relatively large flowers!

Such an enjoyable video! SO glad that you mentioned the Gomesa radicans. I have a couple of different Gomesas. They are such great growers for me here in s.e. Florida USA. Thanks for taking the time to share your orchids via video.

Oh I love orchids big and showy or small and glorious, I can't help it. When you research some orchids and look up what the flower might look like, you can get a shock when one blooms and you were expecting more. I see beauty in them all. I have a friend that only collects miniature orchids due to limited space and he has some gorgeous orchids and gets stunning petite blooms. Also quick question, is that a schismatoglottis in the background, gorgeous leaves, I have just purchased my first from a rescue bench?

Believe it or not... the next video which popped up was a true crime story 'Murder in Melbourne' 👀🤣
I love my grassy and bushy Gomesa radicans, so cute with its tiny Oncidium bulbs.

My partner says there cute, that's a code word can you get some. Thanks Matthew, in one video you have potentially doubled the collection and made a somewhat impact on the finances....
Thankfully you had the volume turned down in some segments so I should be able to recoup by not locating those orchids. (Hint - recording volume too low but you did me a favour :) ).

Have you ever grown Tolumnia orchids? I've been eyeing them and just might end up with one.

Tolumnias were my suggestion as well. Super easy to grow and get to flower and the blooms are large and colorful. Love them.

That Pleurothallis flowers look like little wizards. It always amaze me how some orchids, and some other flowers look like simulating humans or animals in some form or the other. I joke about it, that during creation, the angels were making fun in trying to mimic humans, insects (Restrepia) and animals in the flowers. Well, if you look at particularly the "dancing lady" Orchids, those angels have a good sens of the future too.

I grow Neofinetia (vanda category by now) ascofinetia cherry blossom sedira japonica, a lot of mini vandas (no room for full sized). There are mini catts, mini phals. Not sure what you can get in Australis but hope this helps. Still love the energy you have. Great videos.

I do quite like small orchids, but similarly like you, I want popping colours. Try a Masdevallia ignea! Gorgeous rich red flowers and it's a species.
I've got a sarcochilus (hartmanii) and nearly killed it. No idea what happened but I think it's recovering 🤞

Thanks for finding me - really just the right care; light water and fertiliser will keep them happy and blooming.

My Sarcochilus ceciliae is pushing 3 spikes this year. It's a 2 fan plant only, pretty small so I'm pretty excited. It's quite difficult to find here in Germany. I grow my gomesa radicans in a vase with pebbles in the bottom and the pot sitting on top. They love high humidity and it is doing very well in this setup. Masdevallia nidifica might be a good addition to your collection of miniature orchids.

@martinafaust4851 Great to hear. I may try to grow it indoors and see if it can handle my indoor humidity. I know I cam get sufficient light, I just worry about how well I can keep it hydrated without it contracting disease

I don't grow any of the tiny flowered plants, I'm too blind to see them. I have a couple of Promenaea but I do not grow them well, and a Stenia calceolaris, which is in the same group. I've tried growing Dendrobium cuthbertsonii and some of the hybrids but that's a no go here. Something you might want to keep your eye out for is Dendrobium christyanym, quite a small plant with big flowers but not as fussy as cuthbertsonii.

Well, the pink and the yellow flowers are pretty. But i like big, showy flowers too. My first time at an orchid nursery, i ran around like a looney, lol... didn't ask the prices either. Luckily there's always overtime to be had at work. 🫣🤣

I have to laugh at the image of you blinded by orchid buying bloodlust, and discovering later that you’d bought plants with tiny beige flowers.
I, of course, make only wise and well-considered choices when I attend orchid sales.
