I'm surprised that this series isn't more popular. Excellent content, enthusiastically and accurately presented as well as highly entertaining. MORE, PLEASE!!!
This along with Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm, Victorian Pharmacy, Wartime Farm, Victorian Bakers, Tales of the Green Valley, Secrets of the Castle and Tudor Monastery Farm are amazing❤❤❤
Industrial Revelations was a great Victorian documentary series. I've watched it five times over the last ten years it's so great. Also everything Fred Dibnah did.
I started watching all these series' that Ruth is in because she's a wealth of knowledge on British and English history. I'm American and never learned anything on the English ages, but I don't think I would have wanted to learn anything on them from anyone but Ruth. I really wish she would put together a learning channel herself about each age of things she finds important or fascinating so that she can teach people from other cultures things about European history that she thinks is important in the scope of World History. Honestly I kind of wish we could find people from all scopes of World history that love their countries histories that could do that. I'd rather learn something from someone that genuinely adores their subjects than from someone that just wants to get through the day.
Wholeheartedly agree. A person with true passion for their subject matter makes a much more engaging teacher than one who is just reciting text. Ruth is extremely knowledgeable, passionate and very much hands on and that makes her segments all the more engaging and entertaining.
I agree 100%! I was fortunate enough to have a history teacher that didn’t just through dates and names at us. He dove into the where, what, why etc of each era and period of history to the point of being completely engulfed in the subject at hand. The entire class would be steeped in interest to the point of discussing it for days afterwards. I wish all of my teachers had been as enthusiastic as “Mad Anthony” was lol. Mr Anthony always had a wooden metre stick with red circles on it and the phrase “Mad Anthony’s Stick” painted one red lol. He would use it to point at things like the world map or something he had written on the chalkboard. It was my favourite class and most of my classmates would say the same.
It is a shame that US teachers get all their passion drained out by the administration and classes that are to large. Too often ends up that good teachers leave the field and the ones that don't care stay. Too many of the history teachers I had were frustrated want to be sports coaches.
To sum up Alex, Ruth, and Peter in a single word: earnest. Everything they do, they do with genuine enthusiasm and care, there's no contrivance or performance, just earnest passion for learning, teaching, and living history. Marvelous.
You may have dazzled me with with an perfectly enchanting train episode as closure for this series, but I certainly don't recall giving Ruth, Peter, and Alex permission to go home to their families yet.
Being from across the Pond, this German Canadian has always been fascinated by British railway history, especially in the steam age. Thanks so much for your awesome series!
In the US, railroads actually created towns. Whistle Stops were about 5 to 10 miles apart. Early steam engines made frequent stops for water. On the Newport News to Richmond line*, you visit Lee Hall, Williamsburg, Lightfoot, Norge and Toano. Diascund was a hunting lodge for those waiting for their steam ships sailing from Old Point Comfort. Before the railroad, Roanoke, VA was called Big Lick ( a popular hunting area). The railroad built a resort hotel to enjoy the mountain air. A city quickly grew. Even now, the major industry is railroads. My favorite railroad town story is Disputana. The Norfolk to Petersburg line needed a station name. The nearby residents argued for some time. A daughter of the railroad president told her Dad, Disputana. That became the name. * The easternmost end of Huntington’s cross country railroad. He created Newport News Shipyard. Note: Norge is indeed Norwegian for Norway. At the time, there was a large amount of timber. You are unlikely to find any Norwegians today.
I really like Ruth, but the one thing that bothers me a lot about her is how she interrupts people when they're talking. I've watched many shows with her and it's an ongoing theme. When she's talking with the shoe maker, you can see on his face that he doesn't appreciate it either.
Auntie Ruth got to sit out almost this entire series as a tourist. That's unusual, she's usually working pretty hard. And poor Peter, I wonder how many times he regretted passing the vision test so easily.
By far, one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Somehow, better than many movies. Authentic locations, authentic wardrobe, authentic vintage steam beautiful machines. Surprizing facts and unexpected places.
So funny they cooked food in the Model T. When I worked on the railroad we would heat up our lunch on the exhaust manifold in the Dash-9s. I've also heated up loads of stuff on the sidewall heater as the engineer. Soup, burritos, you name it!
When I was in 8th grade a friend would bring leftover pizza wrapped in foil and put it on a radiator in class. By 11 am we all were about to steal it, it smelled so good! But she could only do it when the weather was cold. You could do it all the time. Did you have a place for a coffee/tea pot that was on boil all the time?
I remember seeing a red green episode that made a joke about cooking Thanksgiving dinner on your cars engine while driving to your family when I was a kid. Thought it was pretty funny and silly
Hooray ! A new episode to relish. I've watched every one of them at least five times over, and will continue to do so. I hold multiple doctorates, but feel like a total dummy when these three demonstrate the incredible knowledge which our forbears had to have, and had to pass down to others, just to survive. Ruth, I am sixty seven but consider you to be my video mother! I swear there is nothing you dont know how to cultivate, clean, cook, cauterize, cure , can, or create from scratch.... usually involving ash of some sort! Thanks to all of you for teaching us so much, and amazing your devoted audience with what it DIDNT know before. Keep up the great work.
imagine how awesome movies would be if instead of using cgi they put in even HALF the research and effort as these mini docuseries here on absolute history with ruth & co do.... respect. thank you for all of these theyre truly bingeworthy
Such a wonderful series of programs. While I love living in central Texas, this show has given me an amazing desire for a 99 at the seaside. I suppose some childhood memories never fade.
would anyone else love if we brought them to the US to do similar series but not necessarily over a whole year. just as a comparison of american railways/farms and just see how we developed differently and why? Like in edwardian and victorian farms they state several times important farm equipment was invented in the US. could be interesting to see their reactions to the reasons why we came up with those ideas and why they seemed so overkill for the British farms though still helpful. (reason being the size of our farms tend to be much larger so labor saving devices were not a luxury but a necessity.) Plus going through prohibition era I would love to see Peter and Alex start a moonshining and speakeasy business. I could so easily see those two getting into that hard. Plus would be great to see if Ruth would go full flapper or at least as much as anyone her age might have dared for the era.
I agree with you that it would of interest to see the differences. The only problem with the moonshine idea is that it’s still illegal to make and sell moonshine in the good ole USA lol
Yes, might even get the older corporations, like John Deer, to pay for production.... maybe this is so good because the BBC made it, didn't worry a out making a profit.
I would but most Americans seem to want Pawn Stars and American Pickers on the History channel. PBS would do it but they seem to like 1-2 hour shows and that’s it. It seems like most Americans want Love After Lockup, Little People or Dancing with the Stars. It must be an attention span thing or something.
I found the Victorian pharmacy video on accident and have seen several videos over the past few years and everytime I see Ruth’s hair it makes me envious wishing I could style mine that way as well.
I am always so sad when these are finished. I Loved this. I can see how it all Interconnects. What an Incredible age! Every age is seriously an Incredible Age. Whether it is for good or for destruction... is seen as you explore it. Thank you for an excellent video.
The picnic that Ruth and Alex enjoy reminds me of an episode of 'The Avengers which ends with Steed and Emma having a picnic in a field, with the entree having been cooked in the engine compartment of Steed's Bentley.
I’ve always thought it would be fascinating to put an imaginary box around an area, like greater London, or a neighborhood, and try to figure out what goes in and out of the box. It would be interesting to look at over time.
it might be here the last episodes.but on my thumbnail it looks like i still have many episodes to watch. and definitely will! But,and i say that once more, Kudos also to the rest of the team who made such great series!
I'm from the States and it has some beautiful landscapes, the there is something about how green England is. How everything flower seems to thrive. There are places in the US that has green and perfect flowers but I live in the Rocky Mtn in a valley that is also desert. It's hard to have anything stay green for long and the flower never that beautiful.
I'm so jealous that even though this is their job to present this program they get to experience a little bet of what life was like when humanity first began to reaped the benefits of technology. We can never really know the thrill of someone's first train ride going fast than humans had ever gone before.
But they teach it in their own favour. Most of the time they leave out all the bad things to a particular subject they are covering. So, do they make it interesting to watch and learn? Yes. Is it everytime ALL you can/must say about something -- all the truth? No.
We Americans always have to do everything bass ackwards. I no longer have any interest in merry-go-rounds, but I have fond memories from when I was young.
I have always LOVED Ruth's clothes. However the clothing and MOST importantly (to me) the sweaters she wears. I WANT MOST OF THEM FOR MYSELF. Where can I find them?

I would watch literally anything these three are in. I love how genuine and enthusiastic they are.
Totally agree 👍
I agree 100%. Are these shows current? Can they do another series? Is this a regular show in England?
I always get sucked into these when I see them, they're very good, and the people are too.
Same here! I love these 3 and the content.
Agreed
These three guys are the reason I started to binge-watch Absolute History.
I'm surprised that this series isn't more popular. Excellent content, enthusiastically and accurately presented as well as highly entertaining. MORE, PLEASE!!!
Its 7 yrs old I believe I saw someone write in the comments
Not enough half naked white womans with black muscular man!
Ye. I love it.
@@jozefbania You can't have it all...
I whatched it all
Oh my handsome Peter, your beginning to get those "sophisticated greys" . i love this trio of historical finding friends
This along with Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm, Victorian Pharmacy, Wartime Farm, Victorian Bakers, Tales of the Green Valley, Secrets of the Castle and Tudor Monastery Farm are amazing❤❤❤
This series of Absolute History is incredible . Living history makes it so much more understandable.
Industrial Revelations was a great Victorian documentary series. I've watched it five times over the last ten years it's so great. Also everything Fred Dibnah did.
I need to know where Ruth gets her jumpers..
Never get tired of these series with Ruth, Peter and Tom!!
They are so infectious in their enthusiasm.

Linda Tisue ....well, after they get tenure, you just can’t get rid of them. It’s nigh impossible in the US to get rid of a teacher on tenure.
@@WyattRyeSway I'm not talking about higher education.

We have a whistle stop pub where I live
Since I found this channel I cannot seem to have enough of Ruth and friends. I love everything about history! 😀 ❤ ❤
I need a reunion series with these three 😭
I only watch the absolute history videos that involve this trio... I have a major crush on Peter Ginn lol
Haha, yep. We come for the fascinating history; we stay for Peter Ginn and his cheeky grin ;)
I really like Ruth, but the one thing that bothers me a lot about her is how she interrupts people when they're talking. I've watched many shows with her and it's an ongoing theme. When she's talking with the shoe maker, you can see on his face that he doesn't appreciate it either.
Ruth not in period clothes is shocking and confusing to me
Ah but she was
lol SAME but im also loving her monochromatic get-ups
She is, they are just in style again.
Auntie Ruth got to sit out almost this entire series as a tourist. That's unusual, she's usually working pretty hard. And poor Peter, I wonder how many times he regretted passing the vision test so easily.
Ruth describes such normal every day things in a way that makes it sound like a fairytale. She makes a ride on a train sound so awstriking. I love it.
Finally something new with this trio! Love them!
@Celto Loco That may be, but at the point I had made the comment, I had only just found it.
LOOK LOOK LOOK. It's Henry from the war time farm. I have come to own and LOVE mini Aussies thanks to the war time farm.
My only disappointment is that there's only 6 episodes in this series on How the Steam Engine changed England. Amazing story and Amazing Storytellers.
By far, one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Somehow, better than many movies. Authentic locations, authentic wardrobe, authentic vintage steam beautiful machines. Surprizing facts and unexpected places.

I really hope you make another series about railways, this series was absolutely amazing and I loved every minute of it.
The way they put History so interestingly makes it even more intriguing to check

I love how enthusiastic Ruth is about everything!!
I always get sad when I get to the end of these shows. I'll miss my trio.
Love ya Peter! As always, great infotainment.
You could make a jigsaw puzzle out of about every third scene in this.

I am very fond of rail travel. Never get tired of boarding and watching the passing scene.

I just love Ruth’s blue turquoise woolen tunic and tights and her shoes, and red woolen coat. Cutest outfit ever Ruth!!
So delighted to discover this antidote to life in the time of Covid... More please!
thank u absolute history for making this video i always like to know more trains and the victorian people life
Heck. I need an updated "Hints, Suggestions and Advice for the Anxious Millennial traveler." :')
Ruth Goodman is wonderful.
¡DELIGHTFUL and ENLIGHTENING! This series put a smile in may face all along every chapter. Love this trio.

Peter is my favorite, why doesn't he ever get to be the man of leisure?
Magic! Thank you, Absolute History.
Absolute History Absolute best channel on UA-cam by far
Is Peter getting enough sleep? He looks like he's in need of a good nap.
This is a wonderful video & series! The titles really can't do the episodes justice because each episode covers so much information.
The picnic that Ruth and Alex enjoy reminds me of an episode of 'The Avengers which ends with Steed and Emma having a picnic in a field, with the entree having been cooked in the engine compartment of Steed's Bentley.
Peter has aged like a fine wine damn.
I love all of the books the group uses and the information in them. I wonder how many people actually followed the advice and hints they offered.
I love these history series! These 3 are wonderful

i dont think ive ever seen Ruth smile so much :) either

But,and i say that once more, Kudos also to the rest of the team who made such great series!
IM LEARNING ABOUT THIS IN CLASS THANK YOU
@Scott this truly is better than anything any course could teach so yes!!
@MichaelKingsfordGray I don't think they meant it to be rude
@Scott YEPP
Waitaminute, isn't that Henry? That's Henry, the pupper from the Wartime Farm! Hell of a long-lived dog.
34:25 This sounds so much like the loading music for The Sims Makin' Magic! Mindblowing!
Not only sounds like, it IS the Makin' Magic load loop! Managed to install the game recently, total nostalgia!

He's always happiest covered in filth, LOL
I really find this show very interesting and entertaining I love watching the three people who are actually going through the experience
The men’s wardrobes are fantastic in these. I’d wear most of it today.
Steampunk for the win!
I love your shows. So informative
Did the hand cart race from the opening of each episode ever actually happen? I don't remember seeing it.
Excellent production to the smallest details!
ALWAYS ENJOY THIS TRIO!! 😊
Please bring them back!
Oh im early btw i love This sereies bcs i love trains and history
This is an excellent channel. Nobody teaches History like the Brits.
But they teach it in their own favour. Most of the time they leave out all the bad things to a particular subject they are covering.
So, do they make it interesting to watch and learn? Yes. Is it everytime ALL you can/must say about something -- all the truth? No.
Is that the same dog from their Wartime Farm series?
I wondered that, too. Henry is popping up everywhere.
Having a knocker upper !
I love me some Ruth Goodman
Beautiful! I love stream. Locomotives make their own music. A moving symphony in steel wheels.❤️
I want the custom shoes. They look so comfortable
Is nobody gonna talk about how the thumbnail is wrong? It shows 2 trains from Victoria, Australia.
The narration is done by Philip Glenister (DCI Gene Hunt from "Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes"). Mind.Blown. 😲
I love this trio so much!
We Americans always have to do everything bass ackwards. I no longer have any interest in merry-go-rounds, but I have fond memories from when I was young.
Great love you all and the way you present steam Victoria era.
that midland hotel is amazing though
I have always LOVED Ruth's clothes. However the clothing and MOST importantly (to me) the sweaters she wears. I WANT MOST OF THEM FOR MYSELF. Where can I find them?

You would think it would be shown on the History Channel at least but I can't even find it on there
It seems strange to see Ruth in modern clothes.
Well she is strange .
It seems that Peter likes getting himself dirty... He looks cool though.
I absolutely enjoyed these documentaries these 3 are in.
Great series. Well put together. I was fortunate to travel England by rail before the Agatha Christie type coaches were replaced. My family is from Cornwall. Almost without exception, they all have teeth as crooked as an old picket fence. What's that about?
OVERCROWDED TEETH, IS A GENETIC THING. ADD TO THAT, A LACK OF EMPHASIS, ON "PERFECTION", AND, YOU FIND A CLASSIC BRITISH GRIN. PRETTY ENDEARING, TO SEE PEOPLE, WHO ARE COMFORTABLE, WITH THEMSELVES, WHO THROW BACK THEIR HEADS, AND BELLY LAUGH.
It’s been proven that eating soft foods will make your teeth more crooked. Eating harder and more fibrous foods that require a load of chewing will keep them straighter, but will wear them out. It happens so quickly that in a few short generations, the grandchildren will inherit their crooked teeth and will continue to have crooked teeth as long as they keep eating soft foods.
Loving this series from PAKISTAN
If I had a knocker-Upper I'd still sleep like a rock with him screaming on the top of his lungs trying to desperately wake me up
Fantastic series i am an addict.
and i agree w/ jenny munday- i too will watch anything these guys do!
no hand washing lol the forbidden flavor 😂😂 lovely series
