- Logical - Transport channels Mappings in 4G LTE
Previously we have seen how data is a transmitted over the air. But these data are transmitted in multiple streams for better efficiency. But how are these signals classified? Who maps them to the corresponding channel?
In this video we have discussed the function of various Logical and Transport channels that are used in LTE.
We have also discussed discussed some of the functions of the MAC Layer in details. The other functions such as MAC control and MAC scheduler will discussed in the next video.
This is the Fifth video of the series- Fundamentals Of LTE.

Wasn't the RRC the brains of LTE Radio Stack?
True..
Every layer has their own significance as per LTE 3gpp specs. RRC layer mostly deals with RRC procedures like Radio connection's establishment, Modification, Release, paging and many more. We will discuss more about that in upcoming videos.
But if we look at the functionality of the MAC scheduler, it takes dynamic decisions about how the data should be transmitted, which modulation scheme to be used, which antenna mapping, what will be the transport block size etc as briefly described in this video, JUST LIKE THE BRAIN..
MAC scheduler plays a vital role in User plane data delivery. RRC layer does not come into picture in case of LTE user plane protocol stack.
But On a lighter not, if we want to compare RRC with Brain, we can, as there are no 3GPP specs saying MAC as BRAIN. :)
Hopefully we were able to address your query.
Happy learning. 0:)
Thank you for your insightful response.
It is of great usefulness to me, I am an undergrad student, and am trying to understand the main functions of each layer so I can propose a design in which the LTE Radio Stack can integrate the wifi MAC and “switch” them dynamically. Where would you point me to pay more attention to? RRC, MAC Scheduler? Would that be even feasible?
+Ozxmin O'malley - Hi. Sorry for late reply.
One thing is certain in your project as explained by you is that, you are going to deal with a lot of mobility related processes. For example
1-switching from LTE to WiFi and vice versa, just like the handover concept.
2-Continous measurement of WiFi signal strength, so that whenever WiFi signal strength gets stronger than the LTE, the device will switch to other.
3-And could be many more mobility process based on the requirement of your design.
In LTE, RRC layer is involved in all these Mobility Management Processes and considering you are an undergrad student, we would like you to focus on RRC for your design.
You can talk to your professors or other experts for a better ideas.
Some of the best videos , that could explain the complex concepts with such ease and with great visualization as well ...
Thanks Sindhu. Don't forget to share it with your buddies.
Yes, u are absolutely correct
Very smart explanation bravo👏
Great explanation with best examples. Thanks you very much for such great visualization.
Thanks Murali. We tried our best.
Happy learning
Such an interactive way of conveying.. appericiated
+Zeeshan Gul Thanks buddy
Thanks for your art of teaching 🙏🙏🙏🙏
please make more video like this!!!! it would be good to know more details
+Steven Z - Thanks buddy. Have you seen our other videos?
Very easily explained. Great work. Waiting for a video that explains LTE resource blocks in easiest way.
Such a wonderful real time presentation....please do more videos on Lte layers
Thanks a lot. We are working on Call Flows. Things like Attach procedure and all.
Excellent lectures sir thank you
Best visual I found over net! 🔥
Thanks Mayur. It means a lot for us
This is such a good explanation...
Outstanding presentation
Great video with animations and real life comparison. easy for understanding .
Nice 👍 informative
Thanks. Happy Learning
Waiting eagerly for next videos :-)
+Tarandeep Kalra - we are on it
Very great videos! Hope you continue your work :)
+Muhammad Hilmy Aziz - Thanks Muhammad. We will try to continue as long as we can
wow creative way in explanation thank you very much please keep the great work
You are welcome Bayan. Don't forget to share it with your friends.
Great work, that is really clear ! Thank you so much
Glad you enjoyed it! Don't forget to share it among your peers. Happy Learning
Great videos..keep up the good work..learnt a lot..
Excellent presentation. Thanks for uploading
Thanks Fahad. Don't forget to share it with your friends.
Nice video
Phenomenal Work... Helped me alot
Thanks Saira. Don't forget to share it with your friends.
Happy Learning.
we love to see more videos on PCRF and OCS also.
+anuj mishra - we will come to it eventually. You can check the video Channel Roadmap where we have discussed what are the topics that we are going to cover.
Nice one...sir/mam please solve this doubt...there is no problem with UE as well as network side..but still UE unable to camp on the network..what might be the reason.. please solve
Nice Explanation!!
Thanks Vijay. Have you seen our other videos?
Please make a video like LTE introduction for 2G & 3G introduction
Logical/Transport/Physical Channels mapping on Layers for 3G
3G architecture
ETC
i like your video so much !!!!
+kuncoro aji nugroho - sorry brother 3G is outdated.
Please make more videos on LTE
this is awesome !
Does anyone know if the presentation is in PDF format? Would make a great ref.
that means data link layer processes to transport layer, then transport layer to physical layer
isnt it wierd??
what did i miss??
hi... nicely explained with such simple real life example...can you make video on effect of intermodulation products in 2DLCA and 3DLCA?
very nice video and presentation
which tool is being used for this presentation?????
+Aziz ur Rehman - Sorry mate! Trade secret can't reveal.
GOOD video! But i have question. Is Team X simillar to RLC or Application layer?
Since job of team X is to categorize the goods as per necessity, which exactly matches with the role of RLC layer i.e segmentation/concatenation of the packets. So you can consider Team X as RLC layer.
Happy Learning
which tool you use to create this type of animated video????
+Technology Today - Trade secret. Can't disclose.
РТФ, привет
☹️
NOooooo need for that special swooshing effect in the background. Quite distracting.
Pathetic, why do you have background music? is it a movie going on?
Thanks for the feedback. Yes the idea was to create a movie like soothing experience but it seems the background music was too loud. Please check our latest video on the EPC architecture and let us know if the audio quality seems better or not.
