And in that particular case, she sings "know you think" a little higher in the yellow outfit clip and the end of the "be" differently as well, along with a _dah/hah_ or whatever you wanna call it. Sure, she can't really dance, but her angle was her voice, not her dancing so, not really that relevant. 0:31 yes, that is lip-sync, and there are a few other performances from that era and specifically that album's "TV tour" (when they go on TV shows promoting their new album) where she lip-synced. Saving All Me Love For You, How Will I Know and I don't remember if there was any other one. The purpose of those appearances is to promote material, and for TV programs to pay for your live singing is more expensive than simply paying for you to lip-sync, and since she wasn't as well known as she later became, she just wasn't worth it at the time. 0:53 yeah. If I'm not wrong, that's the first song on the setlist and it was lip-synced in most, if not all performances. At that point, they had to try everything they could to preserve her voice so it would last the entire concert so, that's one of the things they did. 1:21 I don't really think that is lip-sync, mainly because it's not really that much of a good performance overall. It started quite well and all, but by the time it reached I Will Always Love You, it became a little messy, and that belt was consistent with that. It just doesn't make sense for her to lip a shitty track. The reason why it sounds weird is because they opened the audience mic (because the audience generally cheered during that part of the song because big not and all that stuff, and it sounds cool to have her sing a big note with the audience screaming), which is getting the mic's feed a couple milliseconds later and therefore it sounds as if there were two tracks on top of each other. I honestly didn't understand what you wrote there lol like, grammar-wise, I didn't get that. 1:36 she already was live, and yes, it's no secret her voice was quite deteriorated by that time and she was struggling with that kinda singing. 1:53 again, wrong. It's not out of her range, at all. Even more so, the limit of her chest range was higher than that. 3:02 what "effects" are you talking about? It's just her (quite deteriorated) voice, the studio backing track (again, the condition of her voice) and some live backup singers. And do you even know what reverb is? It's just some fancy echo. It doesn't do magic for a 46 year old woman who's been smoking for more than 15 years and touring the entire world with two hour shows almost every night (during those tours, of course). 3:12 yeap, out of breath and couldn't do it live. She did do higher, more difficult stuff live during that time when she wasn't out of breath, though. 3:27 her voice broke, that's it. 3:31 there's no secret truth. She was in good condition during the recording of the album. Again with the range thing, I already explained that. 3:40 the editing there is not done in order to affect her pitch and runs but to make it sound more integrated with the instruments. 3:44 she was high af, cocaine I think, was agitated and out of breath, yes, and had not rested and taken proper care of her voice for that performance. I'll give you that. 3:56 lack of support (due to whatever was going on there) leads to a really bad sound, yes. The song is written that way. There's really not much you can do. Lower the key? It appears that you like to throw out the words "yelling" and "struggling" to project what you want others to believe. Sure, at times, especially in her later years, she did struggle with higher notes, but not in every instance that you pointed out. You have exaggerated it that you come off as a hater and since you have misrepresented this video, you are discredited. Whitney did, in fact, lip sync in her earlier years when she would be on stage mostly at foreign nations. That is to save that foreign studio the money the could not afford for her to do a live performance, so they basically paid only for her appearance. I think the sad part is that I don’t think you educated yourself on the legendary foundation Whitney built for herself in the 80’s. Her voice was absolutely phenomenal in the 80’s! It was so robust, clear, and it had stamina. In the late 90’s, which are the videos you chose to showcase, her voice was not the same as it once was. Her voice darkened, and she couldn’t sing in the high tessitura she sang in before. Whitney isn’t a legend for nothing. She is probably one of the best live performers I know. She’s so experienced in the live environment, and she was known for making her live performances sound better than the studio version.

Some of us who were well into their 20’s remember when Whitney was being interviewed and she publicly said (paraphrased) “I have had to use prerecorded vocals due to contractual obligations when performing on television but I refuse to do that when I’m in concert and I’m going to stop appearing at tv shows that don’t allow me to sing live” and she started to only perform live from that point on. The clown saying she lip synching at the beginning is wrong, at that point Whitney was singing live. There are only a few lip syncing moments that everyone knows-The National Anthem (because the producers adamantly insisted that she recorded the song and they played it back in fear of feedback and the jets flying overhead) and she did lip sync a small portion of Im Every Woman but she also sang that part live as well at times-when she was feeling it. However, who could blame a singer for using some technology to enhance their performance if they still retain their own sound, albeit not the studio version live . Stupid Video IMO. The woman clearly had issues and yes clearly lipped some notes in her VERY long career and yes it is no secret her voice deteriorated from over use. However, highlighting the bad bits is easily done. This is a human being with a delicate instrument that was pushed to the limit, and was used night after night after night and with her having set the standard so high for herself some of the things in your vid were inevitable. What I do not like about this video is calling another human names like 'Crackney' etc ... fine highlight the few times she used playback etc but cut the shit with getting insulting. Plus some of the tracks you played she would have had no choice but to use playback as in the 'How Will I Know' clip, done for TV and a decision by producers and executives. First of all, several of these supposed "playbacks" are incorrect. They are live recordings. Second of all, you have tried to give the impression the Whitney was a big lip-syncer like a lot of artists today, but that is misleading because the examples are quite rare. Maybe about 3-5% TOPS of her performances are lip-synced. 97% of them are live. So stop trying to mislead people. And finally, the range is not an issue prior to the 2000's. She can hit every note she recorded live and proved it live - maybe not with the exact same song - but in other areas of her live concerts. The reason she lowered the key for a few songs is simply for endurance. Hours of power singing for years? That will tire you out! And BTW, of course if you only show the mess-ups, it will make someone look bad. Again, you are trying to misrepresent and mislead everyone. The greatest live singing in the world took place at her concerts. So instead of bringing people down to feel better about yourself maybe you should find a new interest.

Without a voice coach, like Celine Dion has had from the beginning not to mention all the extra things she was doing, it was humanly impossible to maintain the stamina to perform like she did. In the 90's she was worth over 70 million dollars because she could sing her face off, so she needed to lip sync to continue. I am glad we have UA-cam to capture her in her prime. Everyone, hopefully, will get old. She did, but in her prime she was phenominal.

A lot of these moments are actually her singing live... Whitney would lip sync on television shows that required it of all performers, especially during the early days of her career. I think the music industry is to blame more so than the artists themselves, although the artists are pressured to go along with it. They are marketed as if they are super-human, and they are not. This line of work would not be the proper environment to be able to maintain good vocal health. You are made to sing out of your range to make songs popular to radio and the public. No living, breathing human being could sustain this kind of lifestyle and crazy schedules for years and years. That’s why many of the biggest entertainers have died. I imagine many of them have resorted to lip-syncing and the like just to stay alive, and that’s sad. I’m a singer, but I would never work for the industry at this level. Insanity!

And in that particular case, she sings "know you think" a little higher in the yellow outfit clip and the end of the "be" differently as well, along with a _dah/hah_ or whatever you wanna call it. Sure, she can't really dance, but her angle was her voice, not her dancing so, not really that relevant.
0:31 yes, that is lip-sync, and there are a few other performances from that era and specifically that album's "TV tour" (when they go on TV shows promoting their new album) where she lip-synced. Saving All Me Love For You, How Will I Know and I don't remember if there was any other one. The purpose of those appearances is to promote material, and for TV programs to pay for your live singing is more expensive than simply paying for you to lip-sync, and since she wasn't as well known as she later became, she just wasn't worth it at the time.
0:53 yeah. If I'm not wrong, that's the first song on the setlist and it was lip-synced in most, if not all performances. At that point, they had to try everything they could to preserve her voice so it would last the entire concert so, that's one of the things they did.

The reason why it sounds weird is because they opened the audience mic (because the audience generally cheered during that part of the song because big not and all that stuff, and it sounds cool to have her sing a big note with the audience screaming), which is getting the mic's feed a couple milliseconds later and therefore it sounds as if there were two tracks on top of each other.

It appears that you like to throw out the words "yelling" and "struggling" to project what you want others to believe. Sure, at times, especially in her later years, she did struggle with higher notes, but not in every instance that you pointed out. Whitney did, in fact, lip sync in her earlier years when she would be on stage mostly at foreign nations. That is to save that foreign studio the money the could not afford for her to do a live performance, so they basically paid only for her appearance.

You can tell when she's lip sync'ing because the track is EXACTLY how it is recorded in her album. When she does live performances, she normally changes up some parts of the song for nuance. To ascertain that she has, in the middle of a song, changed from live to track and then back, you give her and her tech department too much credit. You clearly don't realize how difficult that would be to accomplish, and to match the tempo of the vibrato when switching in and out of live performing.

I think the sad part is that I don’t think you educated yourself on the legendary foundation Whitney built for herself in the 80’s. Her voice was absolutely phenomenal in the 80’s! It was so robust, clear, and it had stamina. In the late 90’s, which are the videos you chose to showcase, her voice was not the same as it once was. Her voice darkened, and she couldn’t sing in the high tessitura she sang in before. Whitney isn’t a legend for nothing. She is probably one of the best live performers I know. I think singing through pre-recorded tracks and lip-syncing are essential for celebrated vocalists (Celine, Mariah, Beyonce). They are going to totally ruin their voices if they are not going to. Our vocal chords are not made out of steel, they deteriorate thru time.

Some of us who were well into their 20’s remember when Whitney was being interviewed and she publicly said (paraphrased) “I have had to use prerecorded vocals due to contractual obligations when performing on television but I refuse to do that when I’m in concert and I’m going to stop appearing at tv shows that don’t allow me to sing live” and she started to only perform live from that point on. The clown saying she lip synching at the beginning is wrong, at that point Whitney was singing live. There are only a few lip syncing moments that everyone knows-The National Anthem (because the producers adamantly insisted that she recorded the song and they played it back in fear of feedback and the jets flying overhead) and she did lip sync a small portion of Im Every Woman but she also sang that part live as well at times-when she was feeling it. But Whitney never lipped like Mariah, Celine, Beyoncé, Britney, Janet and so many others have done-some of those ladies have lipped over 40% of their shows.

Stupid Video IMO. The woman clearly had issues and yes clearly lipped some notes in her VERY long career and yes it is no secret her voice deteriorated from over use. However, highlighting the bad bits is easily done. This is a human being with a delicate instrument that was pushed to the limit, and was used night after night after night and with her having set the standard so high for herself some of the things in your vid were inevitable. What I do not like about this video is calling another human names like 'Crackney' etc ... fine highlight the few times she used playback etc but cut the shit with getting insulting. Plus some of the tracks you played she would have had no choice but to use playback as in the 'How Will I Know' clip, done for TV and a decision by producers and executives. First of all, several of these supposed "playbacks" are incorrect. They are live recordings. Second of all, you have tried to give the impression the Whitney was a big lip-syncer like a lot of artists today, but that is misleading because the examples are quite rare. Maybe about 3-5% TOPS of her performances are lip-synced. 97% of them are live. So stop trying to mislead people. And finally, the range is not an issue prior to the 2000's. She can hit every note she recorded live and proved it live - maybe not with the exact same song - but in other areas of her live concerts. The reason she lowered the key for a few songs is simply for endurance. Hours of power singing for years? That will tire you out!
And BTW, of course if you only show the mess-ups, it will make someone look bad. Again, you are trying to misrepresent and mislead everyone. In the 90's she was worth over 70 million dollars because she could sing her face off, so she needed to lip sync to continue. I am glad we have UA-cam to capture her in her prime. Everyone, hopefully, will get old. She did, but in her prime she was phenominal.

I think the music industry is to blame more so than the artists themselves, although the artists are pressured to go along with it. They are marketed as if they are super-human, and they are not. This line of work would not be the proper environment to be able to maintain good vocal health. You are made to sing out of your range to make songs popular to radio and the public. No living, breathing human being could sustain this kind of lifestyle and crazy schedules for years and years. That’s why many of the biggest entertainers have died. I imagine many of them have resorted to lip-syncing and the like just to stay alive, and that’s sad. I’m a singer, but I would never work for the industry at this level. Insanity!
