Minun Suomeni | My Finland

Finland celebrates its independence on 6th December. In the middle of winter daytime is very short. In northern Lapland a period of darkness prevails at that time, with the sun not rising above the horizon at all. Finland has emerged as the happiest place to live even though little sun and low temperatures are often blamed for high rates of depression. The Whooper swan, seen in this video, is the national bird of Finland. According to Finnish folk myths Whooper swan is a sacred bird whose killing knows death. Two flying Whooper swans are featured on the backside of the Finnish one-euro coin.
Even darkness can be colorful. Finland is one of the best inhabited regions in the world for viewing Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis. The colorful Northern Lights playing in the sky are one of the most beautiful phenomena in nature. I will always love New York. It’s nice to go abroad for a visit, but there’s no place like home.

Suomen itsenäisyyspäivää vietetään joulukuun 6. päivänä. Vuonna 2023 itsenäinen Suomi täyttää 106 vuotta. Suomen itsenäisyyspäivä on vakava ja arvokas juhla, johon usein liittyy sodan ja kaatuneiden muisteleminen. Itsenäisyyspäivää vietetään kylmässä pimeimmän vuodenajan keskellä. Kylmä ja pimeä yhdistetään Suomeen maailmalla jopa paremmin kuin sauna.
Suomi tunnetaan maailman onnellisimpana maana, vaikka suomalaisten itsensä onkin vaikea uskoa sitä. Suomi tunnetaan myös lumen ja revontulten maana. Laulujoutsen on Suomen kansallislintu ja tällä videolla nähdään laulujoutsenpariskunnan paluu Savoon huhtikuulla ja parven lähtö marraskuulla. Kaksi järvimaisemassa lentävää joutsenta on kuva-aiheena suomalaisen euron kolikon kääntöpuolelle. Kansantaruissa joutsen kuvataan pyhänä lintuna, jonka tappamisen uskottiin tietävän kuolemaa.
