    am I the only one who is like super indecisive about how to make notes and studying? I just can't seem to find "what works for me" and end up trying something new each term 😂 going into second year of medschool in september!

    • @danialezero93
      @danialezero93 8 років тому +10

      Hey Michelle it's normal for that to happen I haven't had a specific method either. Have you tried comparing the results of the many note-taking-techniques you've used? What works for you best you should repeat and practice it. Also if you are just into change and adapted well to all: lucky girl :)

    • @michmich604
      @michmich604 8 років тому +5

      Daniela Chamorro yea my latest method gave me the worst results so far, so I guess it's just about tweaking and adapting what worked and leave out stuff that doesn't work for me! what are you studying?

    • @nadas1079
      @nadas1079 8 років тому +11

      I am the opposite! I just can´t try something new, because I am too afraid that my results may drop! The method that I am working with now is okay. I feel like there is a better one out there, but I am just too afraid to try. Especially because the results of my exams this year will determine if I get accepted to medical school (:

      Michelle Riska I'm studying medicine, my first year so far but in my country we have very different system, we don't get to do the premed years as you do. I'm currently taking embriology, biostatistics, biophysics and biochemistry, yeap a lot of bio, and also a class called intro to the practice of medicine. My best guess is that you have to learn to listen carefully and try to at least take notes of everything that YOU know will be harder to learn or memorize, or most important to. Also if you have course guidelines beforehand you can follow up and already know what you need to know to pass the class and than refill the blank spaces. But the essential is the best. I think it's virtually impossible to memorize everything at once so learning to priorize concepts is important (which i find very difficult actually).
      How is your journey going? There are some snapchat med students who give tips almost daily and you can learn something new from them in a few days. Loveformedicine is one of them, you can find her in IG also.

    • @danialezero93
      @danialezero93 8 років тому +1

      Nada S YES! I've been like that, as Michelle says the thing is that you don't have to change it all at once, you can just tweak it a little to be more effective maybe. Like, giving it some life, using post its, trying a good and clear letter HELPS a lot. I tend to use post its just to add unknown words or things that call my attention (i.e. if the doctor mentions something as "you will see this disease when you study physiology, or this is very helpful to know when you have x patient with these symptons" So i know it's important and maybe I'll look for more info later. But you have to learn WHAT YOU LIKE better and feel comfortable. I don't like to make big risks neither. Just try adding or subtracting to the things that already work for you and take a day to relax and see how much you've accomplished so far. I hope you do excellent this year.

    Our univ usually has a trans system where a group of people (chosen via rotation), would be assigned specific tasks during the course of the lecture.
    Person 1: types notes
    Person 2: records the lecture then transcribes into the notes
    Person 3: Acquires ppt then updates the notes
    Person 4: Takes extra notes from the required readings and incorporates into the book.
    The whole class is being rotated in this case so we are all involved.
    In conclusion, our notes are complete and are time efficient

    I'm not in Med School yet...but I am in undergraduate school. What I have found that works for me is literally rewriting, retyping, rewriting, retyping....
    If my professor has a PowerPoint, I take everything in that PP and retype it into my own study guide. I don't copy/paste, I type word for word, so that I am instilling it into my brain. And then, once I've got as familiar with the printed study guide as I possibly can, I write out key points and important data from my study guide by hand. I repeat that until I feel comfortable with it, or until test day, usually both lol.

      Old school techniques! !!! I like it. It's what we used to do back in the day and it's what I still do to this day. The good ole pen and paper and rewriting in my own words. It's nice to see young people going retro LOL.

      I used to do something similar in high school (went to a college prep school, and took AP classes) we would have materials that we had to read and take notes of, and we also had access to our teachers lecture slides. I would copy + paste the text from the slides to a word document and print that out. so I had that and my notes from my reading material, but I had another copy of notes that was a compilation of both notes. I'd put the teachers lecture excerpts in a different ink (and/or font if I was typing it out) and my notes would be in a different ink. If I wasn't writing everything out than I would just type my notes out on Google docs on my phone cuz I text faster than I type, and than I'd go back to my computer and edit things. I am going to be starting college online in a couple of days, so I'll have mould this method according to how the schooling is.

    Good video- thank you for taking the time to post these tips! What I'm finding works for me is to hand-write my notes in class using the Cornell method. Then in the library after school or when I get home, I type them into flashcards in Quizlet and study them that way, by reading the cards and answers out loud (this is important). Before exams, I will make voice memos of the flashcards I need to concentrate more on and study them verbally while doing tasks around the house, or in the gym, or even driving- I just have them play from my iPhone over headphones or my car stereo. This sequence engages writing (and handwriting is different than typing), reading, listening, and speaking; four levels of reinforcement, all using different parts of the brain. I've gotten 100% on my first two tests thus far, after being out of school for over 25 years.

    I prefer to rewrite things so I can have the added benefit of repeating them to myself, but to paste a text with different formatting into your document whose formatting you want to maintain, you can copy the text you wish and “Paste Special”, then select “Unformatted Text”, or “Document Formatting”. Something of that sort.

    first work is great but just to clarify, within the note there is written that treatment of AS is balooning, I guess its the valve replacement since balooning is not very effective for calcified valves, it could be used though but not the best choise

    But how do you stay motivated to study, I'm still in high school but I want to go to med school but I can't seem to keep myself motivated. Can you make a video on how you stay motivated?

    Love your channel so much! It's a huge inspiration to me. I'll be interviewing for med school this coming month, I was wondering if you could make a video to talk about med school interview tips and the like.
    Thanks :)

    When reading medical related books, do you take notes? If so, then what type of formating do you use and how much notes do you take?

    Love watching your videos! They are super informative. I was wondering how you approached studying for subjects like math and calculus. Sometimes I feel no matter how many problems you do, the exam Qs never resemble the textbook Qs. Thanks!

      I recommend to you to take the Coursera course ;) called Learning how to learn. It gives a lot of info on this topics. I mean things that have been tested and proven to be more effective in most of us. Also you can follow premedmomgetsfit on IG and Bless her health YT. She emphasizes in the knowing yourself better. That's the best tip, try different things and see what you hate, what you are comfortable with and what you love. Whatever makes you thrive you should stick with it. No matter if everybody tells you it's the worst or not as good as their methods. Just remember not to punish yourself and that you are unique. Try with anki also. This UA-camr made awesome videos of that. Trying to study for at least 4 days in a row the same subject might be the best tool for memorizing.
      Just take your time and be patient with yourself.
      Hope this helps! I know how frustrating it can be.
