    I believe the theory of a full hard drive slowing down a computer would be more accurate on a standard hard drive, not an SSD. I think this test would have had better results without the SSD. Standard hard drives are more prone to speed issues from fragmentation due to the mechanical read head, and with more and more use over time, you're going to be filling up the drive, while at the same time fragmenting the hard drive over time. The hard drive will struggle to do the most basic tasks due to the fragmentation and trying to read files with the mechanical moving pieces. SSD's don't have that problem. Let me know what you think, I could be wrong.

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  3 роки тому +7

      You're correct. This video was a test for SSDs, but like you've said, hard disk drives do slow down as they become more filled with data.

      Maybe if he used a spinning hard drive and the data is fragmented. The time for look up and write, would be significantly increased. Instead of the ssd table look up, which is all solid state.

    Very interesting. We have all probably experienced slow down as there are so many variables. I am a self confessed hoarder and every time I upgrade my pc I carry over the old HDD and integrate it. I use my first 500gb HDD from my XP build and it it horrendously slow to start up any application. The smaller HDD were thrown out begrudgingly 😅

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  2 роки тому +1

      That's correct. If your drive is very filled, Windows will try to make sure your SSD has at least 1GB of space (by deleting temporary files). So I would recommend leaving 2GB or 3GB of storage space just to be on the safe side. Anyway, what you've said is correct, a full (or at least very close to full) SSD will not lose performance.

    Hm. My parents iMac from 2015 has ground to a sluuuuuuugish speed, can’t figure out why. Drive is not even 10% full. But that amount consists of hundreds of thousands of tiny files. Scanned images, notes, mp3s, tiny downloaded images, PDFs, etc. Could the AMOUNT of files affect it? It takes forever to boot and open applications. But once an application is FINALLY open, it runs pretty smoothly.

      It sounds like a program has been installed that is slowing down your computer and is running in the background from the moment the computer is started up. It could be many other things instead, but a particular program running in the background is a common cause for a computer slow down.

    i have 2 8tb hdd. both new, same model. one has 3tb free space and it gets 185+mb read and write speed while the other one only has 1.5tb free space and it gets 165mb read and write speed. is filling up hdd space effects writing speed or did i just get worse batch on one of those? :(

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  2 роки тому

      Filling up a 'hard disk drive' can affect its read/write speeds. It's only SSDs that don't suffer from that problem.

    I have 1 tb of hard disk and i have divided it into two equal drives and now my C drive has 246gb disk space available and D drive has 20gb available because i have installed tons of games on it and my computer is 3times slower than it was when i built it...!! Switching on takes about 1min (window loading and then 40-50sec black screen and then welcome and after that all the other stuffs take another 1min to load like all the pinned app near the search bar etc) it's really frustrating to wait about 3-5min and then properly use it😞

  • @AniketWakade
    @AniketWakade 4 роки тому

    Hey Dave same thing applies to external hard drives? because my external drive has 50gb storage left and transfer speeds are slowed down and it heats up quickly too, this have something to do with storage space or any other issue? please let me know :)

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  4 роки тому +1

      If your external drive is a hard disk drive, it may slow down as it gets more filled with data. You could try defragmenting it which could help speed it up again. If it's a solid state drive, it won't slow down with 50GB of storage left. Try to keep it cool as the heat might be slowing it down.

    My SSD most of the time only has 500 mb - 3 gb free, but my pc generally feels very slow and less responsive than it is after doing a fresh install. What causes this exactly?

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  2 роки тому +2

      The thing that will slow a computer down the most is programs that are running in the background. The more programs you have, the more likely it is that more programs will be running in the background and slowing down your computer. Often those programs can be disabled from running in the background without uninstalling them.

    • @deivisony

      I bet it is backgrounds programs... Using your ssd. Steam downloads so fast that it uses 100% of your ssd to write the files on it, just pause a game update, most of the times my pc is slow it is steam or windows updating in the background.

    • @EasyPcRepairs
      @EasyPcRepairs  2 роки тому

      It's best to have more room on the drive. Otherwise the same small part of the drive that's free will keep being used when files are moved around (by Windows in the background). If your 1TB is only used for storage and doesn't get used very often, then it's ok to leave it with just 12GB of space.
