- SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) - The family of Michael O'Neal, the man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Summerville Wednesday, March 20, is speaking out to say he wasn't anti-law enforcement.
O'Neal, from North Carolina, was identified by the Berkeley County Coroner's Office Thursday morning. Tom Nail, O'Neal's cousin, confirmed he was the man wearing a black shirt in the video of the altercation that turned violent. Nail also believes that if O'Neal knew the other man involved was a law enforcement officer, things would have gone differently.

That officer should be fired and convicted, and sent to prison for the rest of his life.

@@Durham.Reality you are spreading lies! He’s father was a cop in NC for 40 years. The officer didn’t get hit with his car, he jumped in it trying to get Michael to stop. Michael was just trying to leave the situation but the off duty officer wouldn’t let him. The officer wouldn’t let it go, and it was all over a parking space! Get your facts straight fool!

This isn’t about him knowing in my opinion whether the guy was a cop or not. Looking at that video clip this cop was just going after the guy that was killed.

I went to middle school with michael and ran into him several times after high school and he really was such a genunine, kind and loving person. I still dont understand how this off duty officer did such an unthinkable senseless act for absolutely no reason. My heart goes out to his family and close friends. My heart is so broken for them and i hope they get justice for what that man did to him.
You must not know that Michael hit him with his car, dragging him across the parking lot. He also threw a fit like a child inside that chic fila a, leading to all of this. When he was asked to leave, that sweet loving man told that man he would "end him", which he tried and failed, losing his life in the process. Just another case of F around and find out...

Michael dated my best friend in high school and we loved playing pranks on him. I just reconnected with him over the last few months and he had been taking care of his parents who are in poor health.. while he himself has been through back surgeries and was always in a lot of pain :/ he did not know a stranger, and when we reconnected working out at the YMCA; he still had the old, silly personality as the teenage Michael . We need justice for Michael, and that monster needs to be locked up

You should know as a fact that during the fight Michael told the guy he would "end him", got in his car, hit the man and dragged him across the lot. A single gunshot ended his attack... FYI, he threw a fit like a baby over his order inside the Chic Fil A and was very threatening to the teenage staff. Everyone says he was such a nice, sweet and loving man but that day he was an animal...

You can see Michael trying to get away from this aggressive nut. If Michael hit him with his car, so what! I see him trying to get away from macho, psycho lunatic with a gun. Why was this OFF DUTY cop carrying a gun in public anyway? This just shows his menacing mentality. If Michael was having a mental health breakdown, this cop should have called uniformed cops who are younger and trained to recognize and react professionally to someone in a mental health crisis. I'm sorry, from what I've heard and of what I see on this video, I cannot stand with this semi-retired cop who's training is out of date and who's own mental fitness should be questions by his superiors. This was just murder under the color of law. They made a big deal of the bruised cop going to the hospital in an ambulance just to garner sympathy for him. I saw through this right away. I don't know Michael or the cop, so I have no dog in this fight. A lot of detail is being kept from the public to protect the cop.
