    It was actually explained that moshimo sent robot boy to Tommy because he wanted him to develop a childlike and innocent personality - unlike protoboy, which is a military weapon.
    In fact, he primarily wanted to make himself a child substitute... Which happened to be powerful weapons.
    Then again, the writing isn't perfect

      Or how Spongebob can make fun of homeless people in “Whatever Happened to Spongebob”... Last time I checked, homeless people don’t watch Spongebob, so jokes like these and those are like jokes behind their backs.

      I think we’re saying the same thing, because I’m saying like what you’re saying; amish people wouldn’t really see this show. And then I added on to that saying not only are there jokes involving amish people that amish people themselves wouldn’t see, there have also been jokes in other shows about homeless people (ie Spongebob), and I was saying that homeless people also wouldn’t see jokes about themselves. However now I realize that yes there are some homeless people out there that would be capable of seeing that, so it’s not completely analagous to amish people.

    Robot girl learning to fly and stuff actually makes sense.
    Modern day AI is built upon learning algorithms, I'm sure how she learns to fly is simulating it hundreds of thousands of times, until the random movements the simulations make end up being something close to flying. Eventually, she'll find one that works pretty well.
    Robot boy straight up telling her how to do it just makes the "evolution" process go faster.

    As someone who's been animating in flash for 2 years, it is not JUST a "puppet animation tool". You can also animate the old fashion way and draw an entirely new character every frame. Most studios just choose to use motion tweens because it's more cost effective.

    • @KoyukixToramizu
      @KoyukixToramizu 5 років тому +4

      @powerstar 2028 Newgrounds in its heyday had some examples of good animations done in Flash. (You kinda had to dig for the diamonds in the rough sometimes.) That might have been before your time though. Flash is a tool. Someone can draw something really amazing with a sharpie and something poor quality with a Copic marker. It depends on how skilled the artist is and how well the artist knows their tools. A lot of the Flash animations you see on UA-cam nowadays are done by newbies. (Not that there's anything wrong with that; you gotta practice if you wanna improve, etc.) I can't say I've personally ever seen anything particularly good made with Pencil2d. *Shrugs* I'm probably not looking hard enough. Personally I used to draw individual frames in SAI then string em together in a different program like a flipbook. That was before I got my own copy of Flash though. I only learned how to use Flash from school.

    • @KoyukixToramizu
      @KoyukixToramizu 5 років тому +1

      You also gotta consider, it's generally faster to keep using software you're familiar with than try to learn how to use a new one. 😅 I spent literal years trying to find an alternative program I could use for making some basic games. The few that offered the features I needed were so complicated for me there was no point in trying to learn a new software when I knew Flash would be enough. There are some decent alternatives for aspiring animators and people interested in making like point n click games or virtual pets or whatever. Alternatives that young'uns can afford. But don't underestimate the capabilities of Flash in the hands of a well versed amateur armed with a drawing tablet. No seriously the way the Adobe subscription cloud model works now makes it too expensive to justify the long term cost for most non professionals, even for the hobbyists who are adults. It doesn't make sense to start trying to learn how to use Adobe programs with how much it costs right now. Some artists were fortunate enough to buy CS6 or older programs so we don't have to worry about the subscription fee. But you can't *buy* and own Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, etc. anymore. Keep using Krita or Pencil2D or whatever for animating for now.

They keep telling us Robotboy is supposed to be learning how to be a real boy with Tommy but I never feel like he’s leaned anything. From first episode to last episode he’s exactly the same and that’s fine for an episodic show but then don’t keep reminding us that he’s supposed to be learning things because then I expect character development.

  • @EarthBreaking

    I genuinely cringe when Mr enter says, "flash is used to animate complex shapes, not simple ones".
    First off, he has said this 5 years ago, when he had little to no drawing experience. Much less in flash. But now, 2019, he has actually started drawing, traditionally anyways, and has shown little to no experience using flash himself.
    2. Where did he get that fact from? The shows I have seen using flash generally use geometric. (Exp. Foster's , mlp fim, and motorcity) these shows have geometric, simple character designs and have shown to work very well with the animation. Just watch any episode of motorcity to know what I am talking about.
    As for this show being animated in flash, I could not find any proof of this. Very little information has been released of this show through Wikipedia or any other site I went to. It looks more traditionally animated if anything. The movement look more smooth than shows like atomic betty and puffy ami yumi.
    Mr enter, if you're reading this I would love to see more sources sited in your descriptions to backup you claims. Thank you

    • @davidhong1934

    • @OsirisLord
      @OsirisLord 4 роки тому +1

      1. This is a sort of red herring complaint because you can easily pick up this information second hand by talking to people who used Flash and he is correct. That being said Flash can animate simple geometric shapes as well as complex ones but for that reason it makes it preferable to use the complex characters if you can. It's like using a ten gallon container to carry 8 ounces of water, sure you can do that but it's kind of a waste of the tool.
      2. Yes you're right, you can use Flash to animate simple shapes but all of the shows you just mentioned feature more complex character designs than Robot Boy especially Motorcity.

    You forgot to talk about how AWFUL Tommy's parents are. They belong at #1 on a Worst Animated Parents list. They are often flip-flopping between tolerable and so neglectful that I'm surprised Tommy isn't dead yet.
    They constantly ignore Tommy because he's not tough or strong, and favor their other son, Donnie, who is so aggressive that, once again, I'm surprised he hasn't killed Tommy yet. And he's come pretty close if I remember correctly.
    Half the time, they don't even care if Tommy gets killed. In the episode, 'Mancation,' Tommy's father drags him and his brother on a camp trip with literally NO supplies and doesn't seem too concerned when Tommy literally falls off a mountain. And the reason Tommy almost falls is because his father forced the boys to climb the mountain and Donnie SHOVES Tommy off the cliff their climbing after Tommy makes a smart alec comment.
    The mother is a bit more tolerable, but she won't win any mother of the year award either. In one episode, Tommy leaves the house without permission and she sends Donnie to fetch him, while giving him permission to use physical force.
    I'm sorry, but this couple just annoys me and I'm surprised their mistreatment isnt brought up ONCE in this review.

    Personally I'd consider this show one of the least bad atrocities. Robotboy is flawed and doesn't elevate itself to anything outside of a mediocre 'nothing else is on time-waster show' but it does have some merits. Some of the action scenes are done well with this art style and the 'Crying Time' episode was pretty good showing this show is capable of some emotion and even a little bit of subtlety. That's enough to make me wish they'd put a bit more care to this show. But to each his own.

      tbh, i used to really like Robot Boy. But when i rewatched the show recently, it wasn't very good. Not terrible, but it has a lot of problems.
      Besides, there's always something that we loved as kids that we look back on it and realise that weren't that good.

      this is not one of his best episodes. sure, the serie as a whole was not good, but pull out a basic 10-ish minute and not really do a complete rewiev for the whole serie is a bit much

      @@adamdavis1648 As well as massively hypocritical, such as Growing Around. Complaining how something in a cartoon 'doesn't make sense' when they go about creating something that runs on just that, and expecting people to just accept it. Among other things.

    Maybe Gus is on rumspringa? ...No wait, that would require the writers know literally anything about the Amish. Also he'd have to be significantly older.

    I never really questioned this show when I first saw it since I was a dumb kid, and I really liked it back than. I have autism, so I was much dumber than most kids back then. Seeing all these details be re-introduced to me now, I can understand why one could have hated this show.
    Off topic, Flash can indeed look just about as good as 2d animation, since the only difference is that puppet animation is actually used more like a tool, rather than a medium. You can be lazy with anything handed to you, not just puppet animation.
