    This instructional video is actually very clear for people who came here for a recap before they go for their next dive. For those who find it difficult to understand the 'sign' languages under water, you could probably search for 'signs for diving' and understand those hand signs first before continuing on the video. Of course, for those who are really good at guessing the signs, you probably could understand it pretty well:)

      I'd score him a 1 for his reg recovery... the reg is out of his mouth and behind his shoulders before he's blown a single bubble, which means he's holding his breath and he does so for large parts of the skill. You are supposed to continually blow small bubbles, not hold you breath, blow a few bubbles and then hold your breath again.

    • @davidhardcastle
      @davidhardcastle 3 роки тому

      @Cy Phvren He draws attention to “blowing bubbles” and, if you then watch all the exercises that come after, he “bubbles” every time his regular is out of his mouth. I have nothing but praise for his instruction and don’t think that I would have qualified with my watching this video.

  • @ChrisJenista
    @ChrisJenista 2 роки тому +6

    Very professional and well executed, except for one exercise: "Out of Gas" (at the ~9:57 - 11:20 mark). At the 10:35 mark, the "student's" air supply is out and she has switched to using the "instructor's" back-up reg for air. She then locks grip with her buddy, and raises her BCD control (left) hand as if she is going to use the LP inflator to inflate her BC and rise to the surface. The problem is that if truly out of gas, then the LP inflator is useless, and quite possibly detrimental when she presses the valve open button. Her BC may dump precious gas, making her task to rise to the surface harder. The demo should show the student manually inflating her BC to rise while her buddy keeps ahold of her so they don't drift apart.
    Thanks for the great video. I appreciate the great refresher!

    Some people have said it here already, and i understand that yes we tell beginners the most important rule in diving is never hold your breath, but as you get more experience you realize this isnt actually the case. However, speaking as an instructor (PADI MSDT), during the demos of the skills for your brand new open water students, any time that the regulator is out of your mouth under the water, you need to be blowing bubbles. Not holding your breath and blowing intermittent bubbles. Constantly blowing steady non stop stream of bubbles. Im talking about the demonstration portion. What we show to our students. That is what we want them to see. If you did any of that breath holding during a skill on the IE, its an automatic fail.
    Everything else was good and interesting to see subtle differences. Like with the air sharing skill.
    Oh. And when you turn off the students gas, get them to watch the spg. And you should be behind them so you can both watch the spg.

    Great video, shows you how to preform many maneuvers with out saying anything just using hand signals just as you would while underwater. I was on a cruise back in April 2019 in Costa Maya and wanted to scuba dive (I have never tried before). we did a sit down and went through many maneuvers before getting in the shallow water. The way this instructor did it was a more hands on exercise and you get that knowledge experiencing the real feeling of diving. By the way my first dive was awesome, dove down to about 45 feet and just experienced the wonders of color and sea life that videos or pictures can never provide!

    The mask water draining part is less frustrating in a pool if the student fails to clear it. But i have seen students panicquing in salt water. Because the salt water hurts in your eyes. So if someone is failing to clear it. Is dealing with the salt burn for longer

Because he couldnt clear the water of the mask. And here in the pool. If you fail to clear it, is not a big deal. But in Salt water... hurts. So the person kept releasing bubbles and wasnt being successful. And the salt pain persist. Uff that gotta be a bad frustrating moment

    Πολυ ωραίο βίντεο, γιατί έχεις τεντωμένα τα χέρια ενδιάμεσα στις επιδείξεις?

    • @SpyrosKollas
      @SpyrosKollas  6 років тому

      Καλησπέρα Μιχάλη. Είμαι εκπαιδευτής. Ο λόγος που τα χέρια είναι τεντομένα είναι γιατί:
      1. Έτσι συστήνεται να τα έχει ο δύτης κατά τη διάρκεια της ΥΒ περιήγησης, ώστε έχει διαρκή οπτική επαφή με τα όργανά του,
      2. Γιατί είναι μια καλή συνήθεια που θα σε βρει προετοιμασμένο για την στιγμή που θα αρχίσει να χρησιμοποιείς φακό με goodman handle,
      3. Για να φαίνονται ακόμα πιο καθαρά οι κινήσεις των ασκήσεων (από που ξεκινάει και που ολοκληρώνεται η κίνηση της άσκησης)

    • @volcanobubbles
      @volcanobubbles 6 років тому +1

      Spyros Kollas Ναι το κατάλαβα οτι είσαι εκπαιδευτής, μπερδεύτικα απο την περιγραφή νομιζα ότι κάνεις scuba review. Πολυ ωραίες οι επιδείξεις βέβαια, εγώ έγω διαφωνώ με το μέγεθος των πληροφοριών που απαιτείται ο μαθητής να θυμάται για να εκτελέσει, υποθέτω οταν κανεις open water οι επιδείξεις σου είναι είναι ποιο απλές απ'οτι στο βίντεο. Βέβαια εμεις εδω στην Ταυλάνδη κανουμε το open water σε 3,5 μερες (η και λιγοτερο αν πιεζει ο χρονος εγω διαφωνώ καθετα με τα speed courses)

      Μιλώντας για τις επιδείξεις, και γενικά τα σήματα που τους δείχνουμε ώστε να κανουν το την άσκηση. Δηλαδή εγω προτιμώ να κανω την επιδειξη ποιό αργά, παρα να την φουσκώσω με ενα σωρο σινιάλα, στο κατω κατω είμαι σίγούρος οτι πολοί απο τους μαθητές βαριούνται κατα την διαρκεια της επίδειξης. Αν κάνεις την επίδειξη με τον ίδιο τροπο που θα την εκτελέσει ο μαθητής είναι το ίδιο αποτελεσματικό. Τουλαχιστον για τους open waters οχι για divemasters εκει συμφωνώ. Αλλα και πάλι ποιό αργα.

      I‘m sorry for being a year late, but:
      Many divers carry either a shaker (metal tube with ball bearings inside to shake) or a metal rod to knock on the cylinder with... I myself like the aluminium rods, because they can also be used to point at something and they are not as annoying as a shaker.
      However, if people would dive like in the books (within arms reach of your buddy), they would not need stuff like shakers. For navigation, my buddy also always carry an underwater writing pad, extremely useful!

    Great video! but how do you stop yourself from swallowing water?

    • @murphysy1963
      @murphysy1963 5 років тому +1

      If you're not inhaling/intentionally swallowing you're not supposed to be able to swallow water.
      Some of my students also have problems with water running in their nose, same thing if you aren't inhaling through your nose/you intentionally face your nostrils up to the surface(eg handstand), water won't be able to run into your nose.
      So the major reason for water getting into your nose is because of your breathing.

    • @claudiareyes160
      @claudiareyes160 5 років тому

    • @murphysy1963
      @murphysy1963 5 років тому

      @@claudiareyes160 Just make sure you pay attention to your breathing underwater.
      You can do that by practicing on land since you will be more relaxed.
      One exercise I would do with my students. I'd ask them to cover nose/mouth(depending what problems they have). Then tell them to inhale >exhale>exhale >inhale >exhale >inhale, etc... the point of the exercise is to make them be conscious of their control of breathing.
      Then we can do inhale through mouth>exhale through nose>inhale through mouth >exhale through nose, etc... just noticed that your nose will never be used to inhale.
      Play with it have fun and keep blowing bubbles!

    what's the dive comp you used in this video..?

  • @brittonrs26
    @brittonrs26 6 років тому +2

    No, you never take your buddy's secondary regulator. You tell them you're out of air and ask to share air. They then are supposed to give you their spare regulator. The air donor needs to be the one in control at all times. Also, you never ever hold your breath.

    • @ghostoyster
      @ghostoyster 5 років тому +3

      You can take your buddys alternate. An example used in the PADI training curriculum is your buddy is not paying attention and you're out of air, he's 5 metres away. You swim over, locate his alt, and signal you're out of air.

    This video while shows the basics for demonstration. As an instructor this diver has to understand that his students will mimic him in what he does. So if he only lets out a few bubbles to while he is clearing and recovering his regulator his students will do the same. When ever the regulator is out of your mouth you need to have a constant open airway. One last this is the Divemaster Candidate needs to slow down.

    • @SpyrosKollas
      @SpyrosKollas  5 років тому

      Even if in general you are right , please take under considerations two things
      1. No reference to the amount or number of bubbles (so the airway is open)
      2. The rapid change to negative buoyancy when for example trying to share gas to your out of gas buddy
      What are your thoughts? 😉

    • @Just-Another-Gun-Guy
