This instructional video is actually very clear for people who came here for a recap before they go for their next dive. For those who find it difficult to understand the 'sign' languages under water, you could probably search for 'signs for diving' and understand those hand signs first before continuing on the video. Of course, for those who are really good at guessing the signs, you probably could understand it pretty well:)
I'd score him a 1 for his reg recovery... the reg is out of his mouth and behind his shoulders before he's blown a single bubble, which means he's holding his breath and he does so for large parts of the skill. You are supposed to continually blow small bubbles, not hold you breath, blow a few bubbles and then hold your breath again.
@Cy Phvren He draws attention to “blowing bubbles” and, if you then watch all the exercises that come after, he “bubbles” every time his regular is out of his mouth. I have nothing but praise for his instruction and don’t think that I would have qualified with my watching this video.
Very professional and well executed, except for one exercise: "Out of Gas" (at the ~9:57 - 11:20 mark). At the 10:35 mark, the "student's" air supply is out and she has switched to using the "instructor's" back-up reg for air. She then locks grip with her buddy, and raises her BCD control (left) hand as if she is going to use the LP inflator to inflate her BC and rise to the surface. The problem is that if truly out of gas, then the LP inflator is useless, and quite possibly detrimental when she presses the valve open button. Her BC may dump precious gas, making her task to rise to the surface harder. The demo should show the student manually inflating her BC to rise while her buddy keeps ahold of her so they don't drift apart. Thanks for the great video. I appreciate the great refresher!
I went diving for the first time in cozumel and now I want to get certified for open water, I'm fifteen and this has helped me prepare for the lessons.
Awesome video to give potential new divers an idea of what will be expected of them. This makes me feel much more confident about getting back into diving after being away for 25 or so years. Thanks.
I don't dive but I found this fascinating. Also, impressed by the patient way you responded to nit picking commentators, who are quick to criticise but not so quick to post their own vid of how they feel it should be done...
Some people have said it here already, and i understand that yes we tell beginners the most important rule in diving is never hold your breath, but as you get more experience you realize this isnt actually the case. However, speaking as an instructor (PADI MSDT), during the demos of the skills for your brand new open water students, any time that the regulator is out of your mouth under the water, you need to be blowing bubbles. Not holding your breath and blowing intermittent bubbles. Constantly blowing steady non stop stream of bubbles. Im talking about the demonstration portion. What we show to our students. That is what we want them to see. If you did any of that breath holding during a skill on the IE, its an automatic fail. Everything else was good and interesting to see subtle differences. Like with the air sharing skill. Oh. And when you turn off the students gas, get them to watch the spg. And you should be behind them so you can both watch the spg.

Great video, shows you how to preform many maneuvers with out saying anything just using hand signals just as you would while underwater. I was on a cruise back in April 2019 in Costa Maya and wanted to scuba dive (I have never tried before). we did a sit down and went through many maneuvers before getting in the shallow water. The way this instructor did it was a more hands on exercise and you get that knowledge experiencing the real feeling of diving. By the way my first dive was awesome, dove down to about 45 feet and just experienced the wonders of color and sea life that videos or pictures can never provide!

why is on all the diver jackets no possebility to sent underwharer sounds for emergency to become attention. in form of metal sticks or others? (im not a diver but this question i ask myself often in the last holliday)
I‘m sorry for being a year late, but: Many divers carry either a shaker (metal tube with ball bearings inside to shake) or a metal rod to knock on the cylinder with... I myself like the aluminium rods, because they can also be used to point at something and they are not as annoying as a shaker. However, if people would dive like in the books (within arms reach of your buddy), they would not need stuff like shakers. For navigation, my buddy also always carry an underwater writing pad, extremely useful!
If you're not inhaling/intentionally swallowing you're not supposed to be able to swallow water. Some of my students also have problems with water running in their nose, same thing if you aren't inhaling through your nose/you intentionally face your nostrils up to the surface(eg handstand), water won't be able to run into your nose. So the major reason for water getting into your nose is because of your breathing.
@@claudiareyes160 Just make sure you pay attention to your breathing underwater. You can do that by practicing on land since you will be more relaxed. One exercise I would do with my students. I'd ask them to cover nose/mouth(depending what problems they have). Then tell them to inhale >exhale>exhale >inhale >exhale >inhale, etc... the point of the exercise is to make them be conscious of their control of breathing. Then we can do inhale through mouth>exhale through nose>inhale through mouth >exhale through nose, etc... just noticed that your nose will never be used to inhale. Play with it have fun and keep blowing bubbles!
I appreciate your advise so much. I took the scuba class but was not able to complete it because I had trouble with my breathing. I will practice that exercise. Thanks a bunch!!!
No, you never take your buddy's secondary regulator. You tell them you're out of air and ask to share air. They then are supposed to give you their spare regulator. The air donor needs to be the one in control at all times. Also, you never ever hold your breath.
You can take your buddys alternate. An example used in the PADI training curriculum is your buddy is not paying attention and you're out of air, he's 5 metres away. You swim over, locate his alt, and signal you're out of air.
This video while shows the basics for demonstration. As an instructor this diver has to understand that his students will mimic him in what he does. So if he only lets out a few bubbles to while he is clearing and recovering his regulator his students will do the same. When ever the regulator is out of your mouth you need to have a constant open airway. One last this is the Divemaster Candidate needs to slow down.
Even if in general you are right , please take under considerations two things 1. No reference to the amount or number of bubbles (so the airway is open) 2. The rapid change to negative buoyancy when for example trying to share gas to your out of gas buddy What are your thoughts? 😉
Why is it whenever I am by a PADI OW class they ate on their knees practicing skills? This should be done while negatively buoyant. Realism is so important for new OW students.
Steven Butterfield if it's your first time in the water, it's easier to learn the basics on the procedures first, no? My first time diving in a pool we did everything on our knees and then when we got out into the open water we practiced everything while neutrally buoyant.
not going to comment the entry, that was bad enough and already commented on.. alas if you are demonstrating a skill where you're reminding the student to continue exhaling whilstteh reg is oiut of their mouth, you need to be consistent in it and DO IT continually whilst your own reg is out..
This instructional video is actually very clear for people who came here for a recap before they go for their next dive.
Gracias Maestro!!!!
In the last part, how do you manage to stay at the bottom. When I tried it I floated away while my BCD remained sunk.
It looked like he was wearing a weight belt. Maybe your BCD had integrated weight so when you took it off you weren't wearing any weight?
Why would you not do this neutrally buoyant? Do you teach your student to do their skills kneeling on the bottom?
Hi Avi and thank you for your comment. I teach my students in both ways. Here is your link ua-cam.com/video/PICBor8V6jk/v-deo.html
I’m going to Cyprus to do my certification
Wish you to have extra fun! All the best and let us know about your experience! Cheers
Thanks will do
sorry i dont speak diving, so its hard to understand the video.
Exiled Grammar Nazi you will need only three days to your local diving center 😉
thanks, i could sorta understand towards the end of the video.
Why do you watch it then?
Super
😍
Great Demonstration!!!! Could You translate ? Thanks
What sound (letter)do you say by the cesa?
why are all skills done on their knees?
why is on all the diver jackets no possebility to sent underwharer sounds for emergency to become attention. in form of metal sticks or others? (im not a diver but this question i ask myself often in the last holliday)
I‘m sorry for being a year late, but:
Many divers carry either a shaker (metal tube with ball bearings inside to shake) or a metal rod to knock on the cylinder with...
Thank you, very informative video
Great video! but how do you stop yourself from swallowing water?
If you're not inhaling/intentionally swallowing you're not supposed to be able to swallow water.
Some of my students also have problems with water running in their nose, same thing if you aren't inhaling through your nose/you intentionally face your nostrils up to the surface(eg handstand), water won't be able to run into your nose.
So the major reason for water getting into your nose is because of your breathing.
Thank you for that!!!
@@claudiareyes160 hope that would help you! Keep calm and be alert to the environment, you can solve mostly every problem underwater.
what's the dive comp you used in this video..?
It is an xdeep bottom timer
No, you never take your buddy's secondary regulator. You tell them you're out of air and ask to share air. They then are supposed to give you their spare regulator. The air donor needs to be the one in control at all times. Also, you never ever hold your breath.
You can take your buddys alternate. An example used in the PADI training curriculum is your buddy is not paying attention and you're out of air, he's 5 metres away. You swim over, locate his alt, and signal you're out of air.
Yeah dude...if you think im gonna wait for permission as im beginning to drown...think again!
Buddy, I’m out of air I’m not gonna be polite.
out of gas and can inflate your BCD from your tank? I may be missing something.
Mohammed Nabih Simulation on ascent by deflating your BCD on the way up 😉
aha got it , sorry for misunderstanding , and thanks very much for your effort
maybe written in Russian and I didnt understand hahahaha
This video while shows the basics for demonstration. As an instructor this diver has to understand that his students will mimic him in what he does. So if he only lets out a few bubbles to while he is clearing and recovering his regulator his students will do the same. When ever the regulator is out of your mouth you need to have a constant open airway. One last this is the Divemaster Candidate needs to slow down.
Even if in general you are right , please take under considerations two things
1. No reference to the amount or number of bubbles (so the airway is open)
2. The rapid change to negative buoyancy when for example trying to share gas to your out of gas buddy
What are your thoughts? 😉
Spyros Kollas That is true they don’t say how much air to keep you airway open. It depends on how you were thought.
U have to put your regulator down when you remove it and blow really small bubbles u we're opening you're mouth you should close your mouth
Why am I watching this I’m advanced certified?
Jim Halpert wow. Much impress. So pro!
If Val Kilmer was a dive instructor
Saludos desde Colombia 🇨🇴
Amazing video, slightly reminds me of a game of charades.....
Geez.. who taught you that giant stride entry
:)
Why can u make video how the perfect giant stride
that's all you have to say? I'll be looking for your name in the Nat Geo Underwater Series...
Why don't you do a video with the perfect giant stride then? Hey?
AWESOMR!
Relax ... Took me years .. on Land !!!
Demonstration is good, however it's too fast.... Take your time... Slowdown ...
Thank you Joe
I’m taking PADI to
im thinking about to getting my PADI, but I don't know if im going to dive much in the future...
Huy Nguyen go for it and the rest will come 😉
Who almost drown watching this ?
it looks you have 😂😂
Well done
Why is it whenever I am by a PADI OW class they ate on their knees practicing skills? This should be done while negatively buoyant. Realism is so important for new OW students.
Yes, lol thanks.
Steven Butterfield ua-cam.com/video/PICBor8V6jk/v-deo.html
Steven Butterfield if it's your first time in the water, it's easier to learn the basics on the procedures first, no? My first time diving in a pool we did everything on our knees and then when we got out into the open water we practiced everything while neutrally buoyant.
not going to comment the entry, that was bad enough and already commented on.. alas if you are demonstrating a skill where you're reminding the student to continue exhaling whilstteh reg is oiut of their mouth, you need to be consistent in it and DO IT continually whilst your own reg is out..
Stan Merta thank you for your comment!
Who is that woman, is it your wife?
Does it make any difference to the way that you will perform those skills?
@@SpyrosKollas oooh yeaaa... I forgot about that
@@lioncat79 stay focused dude 😉
