I don’t have a sawmill but my brother does and whenever I get a chance I’m helping him. The smell of the wood, the anticipation of seeing what the oh is like inside is almost peaceful to me. 😎👍
got to agree with you... that mill is real impressive in its fabrication and capacity. I've sent many friends to your channel to see your mill and set-up. Hope your channel keeps on going. Cheers
Hi, new subscriber from the Netherlands, very nice video thank you! Also sound and image good quality, looking on my big screen feeling almost if already living in Canada!!! (west coast is the plan) Kind regards, Richie
Hey Jeff, three or four months ago I was constantly getting unsubscribed from your channel. I had mentioned it in a comment and you said you were going to get in touch with your contact at UA-cam. I figured you must have because about a month after that, and still to this current day, I have not been autonomously unsubscribed from your channel at all. Plus, your channel seems to be growing a bit better than it was. It seemed like you were stuck forever in that upper 7k range. Hate to hear you're having problems with that again. Anyway, yet another great video. Keep up the great job with everything. P.S. I like the voice-over. I think you should experiment more with that in future videos 👍🏼
YT is a grind, esp for smaller channels. Investing is key. Love to chat your ear off on the subject one day. Good show as always, keep cuttin' brother!
This is the first time watching your videos, can you tell me about the sawmill shed. I am in Minnesota and going to put one up next summer and like the looks of yours.
It’s 10x40- if I were to do it all over again- it’s be at least 12’ wide. My mill is quite a bit wider than a store bought unit, so 10’ might be plenty for you. I have a 10x10 room at the far end for my blade sharpening and setting gear, and fuel.
Still subcribed. Thanks for not playing the cheesy music. I sure like watching saw milling. I’m still struggling to get to the 1000 subscribers. 🤭🤭 Have a great Friday. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
Nova Scotia. I remember from geography class. It's somewhere close to Canada I think. I knew a guy from Canada. He had a strange sounding name. I think it was Frank. 😂 you know I'm kidding. You do a good job which keeps us watching.
That black box that makes the mill go on its own is that something you made or factory? Also, those fingers that pulls wood back? What band is this mill? Thank you
It’s a homemade mill, loosely based on Linn Lumbers designs, I widened it and made a different track and doubled the hp. The black box is a homemade 12v speed controller- runs a small motor for my power feed. I put the drag back fingers on, it held getting rid of the slabs. Thanks for watching. Jeff
Before I watch the rest of the video, Why did you take a chunk off the butt end and not the top end? I wiĺ continue watching to see if you answered this.
Yt has been doing this alot with my off grid survival subscriptions and regenerative farming subscriptions. Almost like they dont like the word "self sufficient" Anyways, im not going anywhere and id notice right away if i was unsubscribed. Cheers
I enjoy watching you guys and listen with interest about the yield and economics of running your sawmill. However i have real trouble with your "success" stories because you never mention how much your logs cost or the net board measure of your yield and what you sell it for. Ive been 65 years in the business and by my calculations you are getting less than 50% recovery. International price on softwood logs is somewhere around $200 per cubic meter converted to FBM (net) that is $200/453.7756= approx $0.44 per fbm and at 50% recovery the fibre cost alone is 88 cents per bd ft. That is $880 per thousand, im sure i can bye the wood for that at a bldg supply- normal rule of thumb for running this kind of business is 1/3 each overhead(incl labor& Cap) 1/3 raw material & 1/3 profit so are you selling your wood for $2640 per MFBM????? Marv Funk
The math is simpler than that to me. I pay $.47 per bd ft and I sell it for as little as $1.10 per bd ft. It covers my expenses and makes enough profit to keep me interested in doing it. Plus I enjoy milling, and I’ll make a bit off of the videos I produce as well.
@@thelogfather5002 Thnx for your reply- could you please confirm the scale of the log based on you $.47 per bd ft. not sure if you are in canada or US and what scale format you are using. Marv

Nice milling shelter
What are the gallons just sitting there? Is that oil?
Those are 4 litre bottles of windshield washer fluid. I use one a day as blade line this time of year

It had a split in it.
@thelogfather5002 good answer.
You have told us, but I can't remember.
What do you do with your software slabs?
Give them away- there’s a machine shop nearby that’ll take all I can get them. They do a favour now and then for me.
@thelogfather5002 good deal!
Not using the sawdust blower?
Next video I will.

Still subscribed.
Hi, would you change anything on your sawmill shed?
I’d make it 4 feet wider. I’ve learned to live with it, but I stuck to my budget at the time, I wish I wasn’t so cheap.
@@thelogfather5002 I noticed that your shed is open on both sides for winter milling would you have a wall on sawdust side to cut down on the wind?

@marvinfunk3328 that’s a delivered price . Scaled with the NB log scale, I’m in Nova Scotia .
Wow, what's the secret stuff in the blue jugs? My daddy has a mill
Winter washer fluid, I use it for blade lube. I mix it 50/50 with water in the summer and straight in the winter.
