I worked for BFI for a little over a year back in the late 80s. Mostly in the shop fixing dumpsters, but got to do a couple stints on the back of a truck. Our garbage and recycling men and women have my respect and appreciation.
Wish my Waste Management branch here in Minnesota had residential trucks like these. Back in the 90's they had recycling trucks similar to 12:00, and in the early to mid 2000's they ran One Pass Collectors. The trucks they run now look similar to the one at 4:37 but with a slightly shorter body and an Autocar tandem chassis. Can't even tell the difference between the garbage and recycling trucks here.

When I lived in SoCal we had Waste Management service. They are THE BEST! Three times a year they had a free "ANYTHING" pick up day. If you called them for a container replacement they were ON IT! They drove three kinds of trucks a week in my neighborhood: A Recycle. A trash, and a green waste. They were on schedule every week. Also, you could call them for a special pick up anytime in advance. It carried a charge, but was very handy. Up here in Oregon our service is for shit! The scenery is hard to beat, but I sure miss WM! A great company!

I really enjoyed the whole video, but what stuck out to me was the wxll curbtender mini msl, the condor wittke msl I REALLY liked!, and the condor amrep Octo msl reminded me of the great carbon copy trucks we had when I worked for the big green monster in the Bay Area. Ours were exactly the same, but they had a drop tag axle behind the rear axle. Ours were used on yard waste routes and up in the hills on trash (for a minute). I really liked those trucks. They were great to drive and for their size, could pack a good load of organics in them. Great job, like everyone else, I really look forward to the full videos of these trucks!

This video reminded of my Oakland, CA footage a few years back, seeing the Kann and Amrep MSL. Speaking of MSLs, my favorite had to be the Volvo Curbtender, looks like it was operating in a busy area; can't wait for a full video of that! The recyclers really pack some history for WM, considering they're what kicked off curb-sorted recycling many years ago. All of these trucks are in Oregon/Washington/Illinois, right? Now I know where I want to go next year. Awesome video man and way to make a comeback. Here's to another thousand subs!

So weird how Forest Grove is buying diesel trucks but I do like how they look with the non Think Green Think Clean logos. Truck looks good all clean too. Those trucks seem so old fashioned. Where I live the recycle and trash containers are the same type of full size wheelie bin but different colors, with separate trucks for each. The trucks only have one person-the driver-who never gets out of the air conditioned cab because the hydraulic arm is sophisticated enough to reach out, grab the bin, dump it, then place it back on the sidewalk.
Damn my guys are spoiled rotten. They never have to get out of their truck with that side automation. These guys in these videos really work their tail off. Thank you to all the waste workers.

Actually, we use then for recycling, not trash. We use rear loading trucks for garbage and probably yard waste too (Thought can't confirm thanks to being at school on Garbage Day most of the time).

Not because it's taxing on the mind, because it's something that reaches so far out of my normal content consumption that I'm wondering how I even pondered upon an 18 minute video on garbage trucks. And I watched half of it. And I'm actually interested.
I miss the days when the guys used to hang off the back of the truck while driving around and manually throw the trash in the back and crush it. Seeing that when you were a kid made being a garbage man look like fun.
All the WM trucks in our area of SoCal have long arms so the truck can pull up beside a parked car and grab a barrel against the curb in front or behind the car. Many also have electromagnetic brakes so there is no rapidly wearing out of brake shoes or drums. The driver also never has to get out of the truck.
7:01 - I always like the front-loading (Dempster) units... In the residential area I once lived, they had a modified front-loader where the forks carried a small bin unit in which itself had a curbside-grab claw attached to it for lifting the squarecans...The claw mechanism ran off the truck's existing hydraulic system with a few extra controls and a viewer installed in the cockpit... The entire bin assembly, and the hydraulic/electric couplings for the the claw and camera/viewer could be completely disattached if you needed the truck for commercial Dumpster duty again...

That first freightliner cab over side load is what they need to design for over the road truckers. Something you could stand up and drive to keep drivers healthier! Give the option to stand or sit
If you are talking about the squeaky brakes, those are specially designed brakes, rather than other truck brakes, these brakes are designed for more use with stop and go driving constantly

That first freightliner cab over side load is what they need to design for over the road truckers. Something you could stand up and drive to keep drivers healthier! Give the option to stand or sit

If you are talking about the squeaky brakes, those are specially designed brakes, rather than other truck brakes, these brakes are designed for more use with stop and go driving constantly
Maybe he's talking about how they engage the trolley brake before the truck is stopped.
