The Collected Teachings of Ajahn Chah was published in 2012. This is the complete collection of talks by Ajahn Chah that have been translated into English. During the Winter of 2012, Ajahn Amaro has given a daily reading which are recorded as audio files. What is collected here is the 'rough-hewn' edit of these readings. These talks are being made available here as a stop-gap, until the final version is ready. A final version of these readings, including the Q&A, is still under preparation and will be published, hopefully, in the near future.
Dhamma Talk
I had a difficult time emotionally after my brother, sister and mother died. Everything in life seemed without any purpose -- my personal goals and things I felt strongly about, opinions etc. One day they're here, the next day they're gone. It's mindboggling. I had a hard time with their deaths until I heard this talk about "The dissolution of all conditioned phenomena ... Fire, Earth, Wind and Water coming together and then separating." Everything falls apart after coming together. Their death makes sense to me now. I'm at peace with it at last.
We also take the finality of death, contemplate our own, and see it in our own life, and eventually seeing our suffering through nonacceptance of things we cannot change, we abandon the view of a self that this is 'happening to' and in the end, it isnt 'happening to me' (and not fair) anymore.. it just 'happens'
There is also Shoryu Bradley of Gyobutsuji Zen Monastery here in America :)
@feelgood what’s your point of asking that question
I’m sorry for your loss. But I’m glad to hear that you found peace. I will give this talk extra attention.
Fantastic- and I love Ajahn Amparo's reading of it, seems perfect.
From what I read Ajahn Chah was in his youth in love but that was socially incompatible. So in his beginning years as a monk it was probably not easy too. But thankully for us all he chose this path which until these days has been having an impact on many, which may also help to carry the torch of truths further.
I think this is my favorite dhamma talk of Ajahn Chah. Ty for posting these.
Venerable Ajahn Chah is truly a magnificent human being. ..Wishing I could have met him.
this could be a fragment of my imagination but there was one time when i thought of his teaching and started to meditate. my mind was calm and clear, suddenly i saw Ajahn Chah in my meditation.
Mela Theoryna
Mela Theoryna Good for you!
If you understand his Dhamma, then you see him (have met him). The Buddha said 'He (or She) who sees the Dhamma, Sees the Tathagatha (The Buddha)'
this may make it a little clearer.......i am a student of Thai Buddhism and have been for 7 years now. i even ordained as a Thai Buddhist monk during the 2011 rainy season in Thailand . As i understand, the word , "suffering" does not mean the same in this context. To the western mind the word, " suffering" has a different meaning to the Buddha's meaning. A better translation from Thai may be to substitute the word, "suffering" with the word, "tolerate", which gives the western mind a better understanding of what is meant.
we have to tolerate many influences on our lives.....we have to tolerate. getting older,.......we must tolerate the knowledge that we all die.........our lives, from birth to death have events which we tolerate.....etc.
suffering in this translation from Thai or Pali i feel is the wrong word for western minds to relate to.
with greatest respect, krab namassa kahn Lp.
I agree. I have read from other sources, including a Mahayana and a Tibetan dzogchen source, that the word "suffering" is too narrow to be an accurate translation of "dukkha".
A broader and more accurate phrasing would include the words stress, distress, anxiety, tension, worry, concern, irritation, fretting, dissatisfaction, etc.
In other words, the full range of forms of unhappiness from mild to severe, from minor to major, from acute to existential. My experience accords with this broader view. Once seen clearly, dukkha is alarmingly pervasive and constant.
Thank you.
Dukkha in the pre pali is 'an off-center cart wheel'. That is a bouncy ride in going forward. Sukha on the other hand was a well greased cart wheel. Is it true you may say, well check Wikipedia.
Sadhu! sadhu! sadhu!

do not worship people
Why? @@PAX---777
Loved it...you guys are genius
These words were directly from ajhan chah
I heard his health declined because he pushed himself too hard, giving too much of himself away due to his deep compassion. I hope ALL monks/nuns will take that example to heart, and not forget to have compassion to their own bodies too.
@@richardvass1462 but we really need such great teachers to teach long enough so that we can apply it on our own. I pray for all monks like him to live long n healthy...
Very common....'giving' people give themselves away.
@@PAX---777 You are so right, the bliss from giving freely to others is coming back to oneself sooner or later. It is such a wonderful exchange between living beings.
Try one of his great students whos still alive. Tan ajahn dtun.
Didn't you learn anything? There is no self to give away. 😂
ขอนอบน้อมกราบสาธุเจ้าค่ะ
How can I listen to talks in sequence, first to last?
thank you
wise man....
thankyou
Mahim Gupa I'm not the great teacher Ajahn Chah. Idk if you know but he has passed away. I only can give my view on your question is it may help. I don't believe Ajahn Chah was saying we are HERE to suffer more so its just a nature of life that we DO suffer. I believe once we all have realized that this is a truth that's in our life, we can start to focus on the things that actually help us to our end suffering.
Ajahn Chah view regarding Dukkha was indeed: "Suffering is wrong thinking".
We do suffer & die [though] over & over & over again..... lovely.....
Venerable Ajhan indeed.
The two sufferings that conditioning the ceaseless suffering.

People have a lot of excuses to not to practice before it is to late.. Controlled by the suffering and ignorance - investigate dukkha.
Forget people. Now that we know. Let us put our hearts into this investigation :) may you be well.

Nice
i wanted to know from you that if we are here to suffer how can we make this suffering a good experience and as you are a monk , i want to know what is so special or attractive or good that you are living a life alone and why not with a partner. I would be waiting for your reply. Thank You
Mahim Gupta I'm not the great teacher A
+Mahim Gupta We are here to experience and the right ones will realize that living is suffering and then will find the way to end this suffering. Monks are not living life alone. Buddha have never been alone but only his 7 years intense mediation, actually he was always surrounded until his last breath :)

A "timely" talk, haha.
you speak so fast...
The comment " buddhism is fear based is wrong completely it is insult done purposely by christian missionerys. ". Truth is opposite .real buddhist phenomena brings joy. One may distort that the way they want but it is not genuine doctrine what buddha said.Only After meditation one can observe. It is just opposite of fear for god or death . A joy , happiness , calmness filled mind . After practicing buddha doctrine or meditation. The above accusation is of christian missionerys false propoganda. God based relegeons are the ones who " order s commandments of god . fearing. To break gods rules. But buddhism teach you are your own creator, not unseen god, meaning your mind . Is what decides to do good or bad. You can decide what is real and unreal not by teaching god s rules or forced to do things even killings of living beings fearing. " god. S faith. Ones who misundestand buddhas words are the ones who misquote . Buddhas words. It is only good noble thoughts, words , action bring happiness. But bad , actions, bad thoughts obscene words. Give unhapiness to everyone. Buddhism is never forced or frightend to believe anything any one or god. Just see for yourself wether phenomenas are correct or wrong. No godly unseen secrets or miracles . Buddhism only consists of great reality. What you can hear or see or experiment in this life. No need to die to go to heaven one has never seen.

Having 100 cows or 100 buffalo it's not good it's too much pressure with people this days living in a connected world. It could be more than 100 all connected with different directions on the mind bringing enough confusion and problems if you are not in the correct community to achieve your goals in the ordinary world.

when walking alone a beach filled with jelly fish. they were all dying. as i walked i threw some back. a stranger asked why are you throwing some back as they will all die it makes no difference. i threw one more back to the sea and replied, it made a difference to that one.
in meditation, very deep meditation. the peace i find very easily and fear i accept and embrace, but i always say thank you for visiting my fear, stay as long as you wish but remember this. i have no rush to embrace peace, that is waiting for me to rest, im still alive so remember my fear i am still able to throw a jelly fish back to the sea.
