Oh god. I can totally relate to being a child of immigrants. It’s interesting how it plays out with our children now. I was one of 2 kids in the whole school that wore a headscarf in grade 5. Our school was predominantly all white. I dealt with so much bullying and racism. It was super difficult and I still remember that feeling of anxiety. Fast forward to now- my 7 year old has been pressing me since last year to wear her headscarf full time in school. Unfortunately I’ve been trying to get her to forget about it because I’m so worried that she’ll have to deal with some of the things I did. As an adult, I didn’t continue wearing the headscarf. Just this morning, after giving it much thought, I pulled out her scarf and my cutie went toSchool in it with so much happiness and pride. It’s tricky raising these kids as well with our trauma and it’s hard on them too. They still have to deal with being “different” although I’m glad there’s much more acceptance now.
Wow thank you for sharing that story! It is so difficult going through those things as children because we carry the trauma with us. Proud of you as a mom and your daughter for rocking her headscarf today❤
@@OKMomPodcast Yess and I used to watch it with my sister and it was our show. Now we're married and in different countries and i can't watch reruns without missing her immensely! Also, Team Nathan through and through!!
