As a Alvarez + Haaland owner this strategy seems strong to me. The only thing causing me to hesitate committing to this free hit, is how many doubles/blanks do we expect in the 2nd half of the season? GW18 looks like a great free hit but I don't know if we could expect any big doubles/blanks later.
Very good point, I’m wondering the same thing.
Based on the expert fixture planners’ suggestions, we shouldn’t be expecting that much disruption this season. I believe Ben for example is mildly pursuing FH18

Considering it, but think Brentford’s double is essentially a single given they play City, outside of Mbuemo. Also think Brentford’s fixtures are poor until gw14 and City’s are poor until gw16, outside of this week
Yes, but it definitely helps with getting them ahead of schedule. The point of this FH is less so the pure value on 18 itself but the net benefit of enjoying a few good GWs of good BRE/MCI games
This was basically my plan already, but without any Liverpool or man U players in 18. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
What would be your FH draft then?

Another benefit of gw 18 free hit is that arsenal and Liverpool play each other. Gives us an opportunity to move off those assets for a week

My issues with FH18:
Would Alvarez still be a keep through the blank if you expect KDB to be back for the double (would say Haaland, KDB, Def 3 best picks for double) which is then 1 less blanking player to hold
If you don’t pick Salah on FH18, you would have 3m-4m ITB on FH as the most expensive option with a targetable fixture is then Son and most expensive DEF is Trippier
Go into GW19 with 1 transfer which is Boxing Day and heavy rotation usually. If you have issues then may be taking big hits to remove Asian Cup and AFCON players around double/GW21
Bigger blanks and doubles later in season
Good points on KDB, it also might have impacts on Foden too of course but I also think he appears to be nowhere near to the squad so we'll have to monitor that one
Having money ITB on a FH is normal, we should stop looking at players for their prices, maximising budget is not what FHs are for whatsoever. You just create the best squad possible based on fixtures, if you end up with 2m ITB that's acceptable.
I think this is a general problem we all have to deal with. People will also be FTs down when it comes to setting up for the double itself
Bigger blanks and doubles are not confirmed whatsoever, and you need to save other chips for likely a large one such as 37 (bench boost).
Great video Fran. I was originally looking at a GW19 WC but realised I can have essentially the same team in GW16 if I commit to the GW18 free hit. Definitely the way I will be going (assuming the GW20 DGW is confirmed)

Interesting strategy but not for me. Most people have only Mbuemo and maybe two city players- could easily use the free transfers and bench Haaland to manage the blank/double. FH is like gold dust- for use later in the season.
I’m more worried about Afcon- what do you suggest for those 4 weeks?
We probably have to invest into Maddison/Fernandes, or KDB if you don't pursue FH18
not forget that KDB is probably back before afcon.
in my team bowen and flekken,pinnock is playing against each other....I am so tempted to do (bowen to Mbeumu)as it is frustrating to watch west ham play...I know playing double brentford defence is not ideal...but I will take my chances(and I have enough bench option to tackle the next two hard brentford fixtures)....only thing stopping me is....I wanted to go into gw 12 with 2 free transfers and use it to bring in saka and downgrade alvarez

I’m struggling guehi or tsimikas in this week? Both are so similar in fixture difficulty up to 19. Tsimikas good for 16 but guehi good for 13 when my other players have bad fixtures.
I prefer Tsimi for immediate upside just because I am aiming to have more bench coverage. Guehi is a bit more stable, e.g. you can play him each week no benching.
@@FPLFran Ye I agree it’s just guehi is slightly more nailed and I reckon palace will keep a similar amount of clean sheets. It’s just weather tsimikas has more attacking threat which he obviously does. Idk if it’s worth it or not
How does the EFL quarterfinal draw currently scheduled 19 December? No Newcastle no Liverpool no West Ham etc. this is GW 18 too?
As far as I know the EFL final might cause 1-2 blanks on 26. No impacts on Gw18 for other teams based on the QF

What ate the risks of this strategy? Are there potential lucrative opportunities to free hit after 18?
There don't seem to be any definitive opportunities right now as we are waiting for your usual fixture conflicts but we seem to be set for a relatively routine season, which is a benefit to considering FH18
For GW16-20 the team I can get to looks like this

I can get a team like this.
It prepares me very well for FH18 and DGW20
That's a monstrous team - so much depth too.
Is it not better to use free hit in the double game week instead of the blank week so we are not stuck with all the Brentford players?
I don't see holding BRE players as being a problem, they're a very competent team and a lot of the players are well priced. Mbeumo too well priced even.
Any ideas for people still with wildcard? Was going for GW12 wildcard but there looks to be something in one of the late gameweeks.

Free hit is basically a 1 week wildcard and after that week your team then reverts back to what is was in the previous gameweek (if you FH 18, your team in GW19 is the same as your GW17 team)

As explained below = Wildcard is the chance to change your team permanently. Free hit is a chance to change your team for 1 GW only, and have it revert to thee team you used to have before activating the FH.

I'm thinking I should save the free hit for second half of the season, what if there is a week like last time with 4 blanks and then 4 double gw? How can we know?
This season will definitely have less blank and double fixtures.

that will mostly be dependent on which teams are getting to the quarter,semi and final in the fa cup i believe
I think it works both ways. Yes of course there will be more blanks and more double gws, but we already know it can't be as bad as last season. Some of those conflicts were caused my unique real world events - e.g. the Queen's passing

if you still got it its either gw 13/14 depending on your team but a wc in gw19 is strong if you dead tour team for gw18
Hard to say. I think it's 14 or 19. Look and see what's best for you
I think at best only the most casual of casuals would use a fh for gw18
I disagree, a lot of top players are genuinely considering it as far as I understand. I'd be happy to play it given there doesn't seem to be any significant fixture conflicts on the horizon this season compared to last

Just bench your 2 city players and mbeumo if you have - what a waste
Can go 3 city earlier, Mbeumo, Flekken, and just have a generally strong team + a strong 18 squad from players you've sold coming back / punt on a good NEW fix. It's certainly viable. Based on what planners suggest we won't have extremely interesting fixture amendments this season
there will still be a big blank as always for fa cup later round - Qf@@FPLFran - just think its a waste - you can easily have 2 ft when they are back after their blank - i will already have 2 city and 1 brentford - just think its a waste and people will certainly regret - not that i think any engaged managers will go for it personally
i dont think more than one brentford player is worth it - they have city - @@FPLFran i count it as a single gw with good fixtures after
