What did Wilt Chamberlain's 100 Point Game look like? 100 Point Game Highlight (composite)

Wondering if this is real? Spot any repeated baskets? This was created using the actual radio broadcast. The video is a carefully made composite (with several shots needing to be be repeated) with film of one of Wilt's 73 point games against the same New York Knicks team that happened a few months later. Using score cards I was able to reorganize the baskets to sync with the audio and have the accurate field goal and free throw progression of the 100 point game. So no, it isn't video of the event ...BUT with the audio and progression of baskets it may be as close as we can hope to get to a highlight of this game.
No cameras were present in Hershey Arena the day of the 100 point game, because it was a road game for both teams (neutral location) in a small town that was not equipped to video broadcast sporting events. Many NBA games at the time were simply not broadcast on tv especially when on the road like this back in 1962 other than maybe being covered on the radio such as this night. The reason some other games such as the 73 point game have footage is because they were played at larger venues like Madison Square Garden. Hope everyone enjoys this opportunity to see the closest thing we can to this game!
Also; they kept wilt on the court the entire game, he didn’t go off once.
Not only did he not come out of this game, he never was taken out of any game that entire season. He missed 7 minutes of one game because he got thrown out. Otherwise, he played every second of every game and averaged 48.6 minutes per game (overtimes pushed the average higher than a regulation NBA game.
Well, as if that isn’t disappointing…
Now, I will start questioning everything I hear or watch because of you clowns who know AI is extremely dangerous for existence as no, AI “BOTS” aren’t going to end our existence.
It be will be humans themselves as look at how divided this world is right now. It doesn’t take more than a simple fake AI Video of a certain Nations Leader threatening a different Country… There is no winner in a nuclear war as we will all be wiped out.
The fact that he did this with 2 pointers is just insane
And a lot were turnaround fallback jumpers
I mean all he had to do was stand there! He was the tallest person back then! No skill or nothing! Not really impressive if you think about it
@@kaleb1858 Yeah, he's overrated
Did either of you actually watch the highlights? He did all of that with Jump shots. No dunks, no threes.
A few layups maybe
I never realized how physically imposing Wilt Chamberlain was until I saw a reddit post sizing up a 22 year old Harlem Globetrotter Wilt in 1958 and a 20 year old Dwight Howard in 2006 . Wilt just towers over him . Wilt was 7'1.06 without shoes while Dwight was listed at 6'9 barefoot despite being " 6'11" . Wilt would be like 7'3 in today's shoes
Wilt was also incredibly strong.
Bill Russell himself said "You have no idea how physically imposing he was." Also check out when he shook hands with Shaq. He has higher and broader shoulders than Shaq, it's honestly scary. Hard to believe that freak was unleashed on basketball in the 1950's.
Yeah he was born in the wrong era. If he played in the 90s or later more people would see the true terror of wilt
That picture is still in the old giant center in hershey. It's a practice ice rink for kid hockey teams next to hershey park.
Only Jokic could come even close to Wilt in playability
I don’t think Wilt gets enough credit on how much he popularized basketball. He was the NBA’s first mega star. The NBA certainly had stars but Wilt was the one who helped pioneered what the NBA is today. Not to mention he paved the way for other black athletes to get into the NBA in an era where it was hard for black athletes to break out. Wilt was a legend.

@@a.hrankopri6153 in fact, if Kobe was playing back during Wilts time, with the skillset he had in the NBA, he'd literally have dropped 100+ on more than one occasion. Despite not having the insane size advantage that Wilt had.
I heard the entire 4th quarter audio. The announcer said, "they're fouling Chamberlain and the refs aren't calling it." Also, Wilt said that had they played him straight up he would have scored 140.
They had no defence so they had to foul him. And I believe he could’ve scored 120-140.
Although Wilt was not above using some serious (yet legal at the time) trickery.

Neat! Adds some visual context to the historical facts. Has anybody ever dominated a game like this? He was the GOAT!
I went to the Sixers vs Warriors game in Philly on the 50th anniversary of Wilt's 100 point game. At halftime they played the audio of the last 5 minutes of the 100 point game. Even though I knew the result it was riveting hearing how it happened. I also got a tiny square piece of the floor the 100 point game was played on.
I was at that game also. I still have a piece of the floor too. When I see people claiming the game didn't happen it just boggles my mind how ignorant some people are these days.
Very cool concept video for The GOAT Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point game.
Absolutely amazing, and I'm referring to both the incomparable performance by Wilt and the masterful film production by our immensely talented Archivist! Thanks so much for all your invaluable contributions to preserving the legacy of the NBA glory days and that of many of its greatest stars.
Grew up watching him and Russell nearly every Sunday, and got to see him live once vs. the Royals in 1966. He was being interviewed side court when we came in, and our seats were behind the basket in the first row, so I had to walk right past him. Seeing him up close just standing with the sports guy interviewing you could see the muscles, the veins, and the size. TV does not convey his sheer size or power. The Royals had a 6'8" center (6'10" today) in Wayne Embry. Embry went about 280 by then and it was all muscle. When the 76rs were playing our basket Embry would stand behind him and push Wilt with all his weight away from the paint. At one point Wilt made a subtle motion like a man adjusting his cuff, and Embry bounced off the stanchion right in front of us. That was nearly 60 years ago, and I've never seen anything like him. Not even close.
That post fade of the glass was deadly lmao

Absolute LEGEND!! Thank you for such a unique presentation.👍
Great recreation. It's hard for people today to understand that very few NBA games were filmed in any capacity until about 1970.
As you well know there are hardly any video clips available of Mikan, Schayes, Pettit or other early 50s players (you've dug up most of them).
Even Wilt and Russell have only a couple dozen games of video available of their playing career (this changed considerably in 1970 when ABC expanded its national coverage of the NBA but even so there aren't that many Wilt games available on video.
Contrast that to LeBron James -- literally every basket of his entire career is available on video (the challenge is digging it up and getting broadcast rights.)
I remember the days when radio ruled.
Magnificent job! Wonderful! Many who never saw him play will disparage his opposition and say he could never do that today, but all any player can ever do is excel in the context of his time. And no one excelled in his time in as many ways and to the degree that Wilt did - and no one has ever since.
Simply incredible and amazing how much talent with supreme coordination Mr Chamberlain came with !!
Very cool concept ... great job! Combined with the radio broadcast, this was an amazing recreation!

Interesting idea, it turned out to be really cool to watch. Thanks for your work again!
Yes idk if this idea will have traction like other videos but I just know I was always curious what it even looks like to score that many field goals and free throws. The score cards and the 73 point footage that recently was released by the NBA made it possible, and of course most of the crowd filler came from the great tapes you've had converted! So thank you!

Highly entertaining. Gives a feel of what scoring 100 points in a game is like. I read "Wilt, 1962" last year and, from what I read, the final quarter was just a foul fest by both teams, who were either trying to deny Wilt the ball (the Knicks) or who were trying to make the quarter last as long as possible (the Warriors). Either way, what an amazing feat.
Wilt when he weighed 260( which was his rookie weight I believe) could clean and jerk 375 and deadlift 625 according to " Wilt 1962 , the dawn of a new era "
@@mikebrown2367 he weighed 275 as a rookie. He weighed 260 before his NBA debut at a Kutchers pick up game

What an incredible feat, and the fact they got it on camera 👌 legend
That turnaround jumper is insane
The most impressive characteristic of Wilt was how strong he was. There are recollection of players saying they had fractured foot from the basketball rebound on the floor after being dunked be Wilt. And even Schwarzenegger saws Wilt lifted a friend over a fence with one arm. Wilt could have been the strongest man alive for his weight
Wilt didn't just dominate the game offensively, "Dip" also imposed his presence on the defensive end as the greatest shot blocker that ever lived as well as being a force above ALL other players on the boards. Indeed, Wilt averaged a phenomenal 30 ppg and over 20 boards a game, a feat that has never been accomplished by another player and never will be. Wilt is the GOAT. 👏🔥
Nahhhh, he was a great shot blocker but a lot of that had was because he was towering over 95% of the players he faced (much like the heavily inflated rebounding numbers). He was known to half ass it on defense quite a bit outside of blocks especially when he had it going offensively. Give him props for the ridiculous stats but don't say he was a defensive monster the entire time as well because he def. wasn't. Saying that he would still be a dominant force in any era but would not be putting anywhere close to the same numbers, let's be real.
If only blocks and steals would have been recorded back then…
@@hype88 Nah, not true. First, the average height of an NBA player then was almost exactly as it is now. Second, Wilt was never the tallest center in the NBA and there were some damn good Hall of Fame centers that were 7 footers that wilt played against light in. and night out when you consider that players then were measured barefoot until Wilt retired and then in '73 they started measuring players with shoes on. With shoes on Bill Russell was 6'11", Walt Bellamy was 7', and Nate Thurmond was a long 7', for example. So being nothing but real, Wilt was a beast against great Hall of Fame African American centers that were big and athletic so your assumptions are incorrect.

Not to start a team without Wilt Chamberlain is sheer lunacy. I get asked by younger players what kind of numbers he'd put up in today's game. My answer is always the same:
"I honestly don't know, but what I DO know is that he would have the capacity to adjust to ANY era and be a dominant force."
We also get the questions of embellished and conflated numbers (excluding that one) regarding his strength, blocked shot totals, athleticism, etc. I am sure some of them were, but does it REALLY take away from how amazing he was, the records he set (of which 70+ still stand and he hasn't played in 50 years), and how he drastically changed the game?
These recollections are being stated not only by NBA players, but ALL TIME great HOF NBA players whose names are met with respect. Why would they repeat stories where Wilt made them look like ordinary players? These recollections aren't all playground legend and urban myths.
---------------
Because of your amazing channel, there are more people "rooting for Goliath." Hopefully, they'll also gain a broader historical context as well.
I think his rebounding and blocking shot stats would take a dive due to the game being more perimeter-oriented, but I don't see his scoring average declining, since you aren't allowed to touch today's players. The great Walt Frazier said the man would average 75, if he really wanted to in today's game.

Why were we ever told that there was no tape of this game? Mind blowing that I should get to see this now. I saw him in LA the year before the Lakers won the title back in 72.
If you read the description or the end of the video - this is the 100 point game audio carefully merged with a 73 point gametape. I used scorecards to put the baskets in the correct order and repeat any as needed, but it is crafted to be "as close as possible" to the 100 point game visually. But make no mistakes it is a 73 point game tape. This is just the closest thing possible to experiencing the 100 point game was to merge two sources like this. Apologies for the confusion.
What a bummer.

I really appreciate the effort in re-creating this game. It’s a shame there was no footage of the actual game, but it’s not surprising, either. For those that think it never happened, simply because of that, you need to do your research and understand where the league was in those days. We don’t have any footage of Dave Thompson/George Gervin scoring 73 and 63 on the final day of the season in 1978, either. I never hear anyone acting like those games didn’t happen. Why is that?

By the way, I have seen recently a lot of talk about Wilt's FT shooting and that he abandoned underhand technique because it didn't look cool. which made him worse after his best FT season (1961/62). We both know that's not the case, so maybe you'll make a video showing that Wilt kept shooting that way until he got traded to the Lakers? I thought about doing such video, but I don't have much time recently for more advanced YT projects.
Yes I don't know how that concept even came up, I have definitely thought about doing a project on that because it clearly isn't true! I will see what I can do!

Why did wilt's fadeaway looked way better in this video? Anyone explain it,
Due to injury?
Depends on what you are comparing it to, but from my own playing experience when you take more shots over an extended period of time your form can sharpen up and it can sort of get rusty if you take less. He reduced his volume and focus later in his playing career to facilitate and / or only posted up a fraction of the amount of times so it's possible his touch and form eroded a bit. He also did have a severe knee injury and surgery during and after the 1970 season, and a lot of the footage of him is after that season due to film becoming more popular in the 70's.
