As per Jim Babjak, this was the Smithereens first concert in New Jersey together as a band since Pat DinNizio's Untimely Passing on December 12th, 2017.
No one will ever replace Pat DiNizio.
His presence and personality was a large focus of any Smithereens concert. However, he left a Treasure Trove of wonderful songs, and an incredible band to play them.
As Marshall Crenshaw said last night, "After 38 years, do guys as great as this, say ' Oh well, I guess that's it, and go home?'
I don't think so!"
Marshall did an admirable job putting the songs across, and his guitar playing was a very welcome addition to the sound, since Pat's guitar had been missing for a while.
Jim Babjak was on top of his game, as were Dennis Diken, and Mike Mesaros.
That's Awesome! Good fit w/Crenshaw!
I'd like seeing them taking advantage of the fact that they now have ANOTHER great guitar player in the band! Twin leads anyone...?
I just don’t see Crenshaw as a replacement for Pat. Marshall’s vocals have grown weak. Smithereens need a strong voice to make their songs POP!
Love the band and the songs, but not sure Crenshaw is a fit. He is a nice guy but his voice is better suited for a different type of music...would like to see a young rocker guy hit some of these songs...
Robin Wilson!!!!
I see Pat singing Marshall's songs more than Marshall singing Pat's...
