- Horror movies can come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes that shape is a guy with a knife. Yet there is one slasher that is better than all the rest. One that truly is just...bizarre. Dr. Giggles.

Dr. Giggles highlights the trope I hate the most with slasher films: Make every single character a dick to the point where you root for the villain to gut them all. Just kills any illusion of suspense because you don't sit there nervous or worried if they'll make it out alive, but are actively hoping they all bite the dust.
That's arguably an intentional difference between a dramatic horror with suspense and stakes and just a mindless slasher splatterpunk gorefest.
Fuck 'em all, they're all terrible people, just let 'em fuckin' die.
But thats what makes them fun! Or just make a witty supervillain like Freddy.
Either that, or the films just make them annoying to watch. Like Friday the 13th doesn't have many characters who are actually bad people. But the writing and acting more than achieves the same thing by making every character painful to watch.

If we got like 6 Resident Evil characters for no reason, I don't see why we can't get a skin of Dr Giggles for the doctor.

Larry Drake is a pretty good actor who will do absolutely any movie. He was in a movie called Durango Kids where he plays a time traveling middle school principal who plans to steal the town of ouray’s gold in the old west. Brilliant
I loved Drake. It’s a crying he shame he died in 2016.

If you have the subtitles on (you can judge me), there's a part where Pointless Hub says "...the doctor who..." but the subtitles capitalize it to Doctor Who which made me very happy
Almost all horror movies make all of the characters unbelievably cruel.
Event horizon is my favorite horror movie because it's the best warhammer movie we're getting so I'll take it.

The way the intro plays out implies that PointlessHub’s hat isn’t actually a hat, but a part of his body. I don’t know how to feel about that.
The idea of horror & comedy combined is something I’ve never seen explored too often outside of the joker.
Check out "Evil Dead II" from some solid horror/comedy; and "Cabin in the Woods", too.
When you think about it Mars Attacks! is technically that
the first dying light game is great for that. one second you're facing zombies and horrors beyond comprehension. the next a Hollywood producer who FLEW INTO THE ZOMBIE QUARENTINE is asking you to kill zombies while he films it because its cheaper to kill actual zombies rather then pay top dollar for special effects

Sounds like the entire movie is a literal confrontation with the fear of major medical procedures. Actually, in that light, it sounds like a really well-written movie.
If you think about it, John Wick is basically a slasher film only the killer is the good guy.

I was half-expecting there to be a clown in this film, and to its credit, the titular Dr Giggles has a clownishness about him.
Honestly, this feels like the kind of film that would be covered by Pondering Spooky Tapes. I can already hear Mandalore expressing his confused delight at the proceedings.

probably rented this out like 5 times from the local video store when I was eight. only picked it out of the mass horror section because of its really cool vhs cover, well it looked cool at the time.

Elm Street really is the kind of movie franchise you can get drunk with your friends and laugh with them. Meanwhile, Midsommar is the kind of film where if you watch it drunk with your friends, you all get PTSD.
