I think that the thing surrounds a body. So it is surrounded by flesh. Eating is not only ingestion but also growth. So it is a hard material, made from something, stone or wood representing flesh or recovery of the After life. As the body perished, the sarcophagus, is life in the afterlife, flesh which surrounds the body, or home with friends. As a case the body grows and eats food. It can't eat itself, nor was the resurrected a cannibal.
I don't. It smacks of lazy writing. No need to have a plot, a backstory or a conclusion. Just play with imagery, then claim it's "all up to the viewers' interpretation", while your story ultimately goes nowhere.

I really like the blended theme of ancient Egypt and extra-terrestrial lifeform. The urns surrounding the sarcophagus give me the vibe of Alien Prometheus. It would be superb if there is a complete story explaining how the astronaut found this place, why he was not fear of approaching the sarcophagus, and the consequence of the contact.

I was expecting that huge mummy to pull out a huge vacuum cleaner and start sucking up the planet's air. They didn't even have to guess the secret pin to open the airlock. You know, the same pin number Dark Helmet uses on his luggage? But there's no shield, so they could just steal all the air and be gone!!!

It's like Stargate meets Species meets Aliens. The design of the Sarcophagus reminds me of the alien's face from Species, the Canopic randomly arranged on the floor reminded me of the Facehugger eggs from Aliens. Egypt in space theme obviously reminds us of Stargate.

An idea to improve the script of your film. The sarcophagus is actually a parasitic entity. It absorbs the astronaut's life force and so the ancient alien monster lying inside the sarcophagus comes back to life. The astronaut is vampirised and only his skeleton remains. A new deity comes to life.
