In the world of analog guitar effects, one 'genre' in particular has always been tricky to get right: reverb. It can't really be done effectively with BBD's; so where does that leave us? Spring reverb is the go-to for guitarists, but as anybody who has ever seen a Fender 5G15 will tell you, the tanks & hardware need to be absolutely massive to really sound right. But all of that is changing - and people are starting to develop 'real' spring pedals to fit on your pedalboard. And in that world, the Crazy Tube Circuits' White Whale has long been one of the forerunners.
Now though, Christos and his team have updated the original Whale to house even more functionality and options.
Using the OG as the benchmark, this V2 (in a fetching sky blue livery) now has an additional spring time setting; a boost on the reverb side; three tremolo modes (including the phasey Brownface harmonic tremolo, and various controls over how that sounds), expression pedal inputs, and even a remote switching jack. The internal circuity that drives the Accutronics tank has also been beefed up for extra bandwidth and less distortion. Cool, eh?
As well as the luscious spring reverb and soupy trem sounds, the boost circuits in this pedal are also phenomenal for slamming the front end of your amplifier and driving it into distortion. Cool, eh?
What do you think? The ultimate pedalboard friendly 'real' reverb? Or not for you? Comment below!

Well done! Bet the White Whale would pair nicely with my Blackbird (Effectrode).

@@JoePerkinsMusic True! I really enjoyed hearing your familiar riffs, along with new ones that may have been inspired by the pedal. You always work to bring out the character of whatever you're featuring. Top notch!

Joe, I have a question not about the theme of video. Was looking for "vintage correct" pickups for my gretsch double jet and saw your review of Creamery black cat and they sounded really good. But I am torn between them and TV Jones classics. Have you tried those? If so, which did you like more for that vintage gretsch sound?

Not tried the Classics - but check out the TV Jones Ful-Fidelities…they’re my favourite vintage correct Tron :-)
