I enjoy your authentic content. I have a 62C and love watching any and all Mooney pilots. Especially those that also fly a C! Fly safe. Best wishes at annual.
I hear you man, the damn screens keep my eyes inside the airplane too much. Although spotting planes outside is not easy either. This flight was a long time ago and I didn't go back and watch the video, but I do focus on getting my eyes outside of the airplane the closer I get to airports.
I have "64" M20C that I have owned for 14 years now this month. My annual was $2300 at an FAA repair station last July. I'm averaging about $1,900 over the 14 years. I have put an alternator STC kit in it years ago. I replaced that rotating beacon with a strobe. Vertical card compass. Had the tanks sealed 5 years ago at Weep No More, $7,000. November 2019 I put a G5 attitude, G5 HSI and Garmin GNX 375 in it coupled to my STEC 40. It has a 430 as well. I love the plane and never any buyer's remorse. I flew it up to 6D6 several times last summer and fall for work. I'm based KGEZ. I'm guessing your first annual well be around $2,600 with the items you discussed beyond normal annual requirements.
Just came across your channel! I do my flying out of KBTL so pretty cool to see some videos from a local pilot. Might have to venture up to Sparta soon, looks like a nice airport. Fingers crossed for no major surprises on the annual! Subscribed!
My annual/rebuild is being done by a former Lasar manager. Every nook and cranny tip to tip inspected and or replaced... not cheap. I had initially planned to upgrade the panel, instead opted to upgrade the engine accessories. Alternator, spin on oil filter, electro air ignition, auto lean (and auto step).
Lots of annuals yield more than what was estimated. Wear and tear on the plane given its age adds up. I hate being a party pooper but goes..... $5000. Hope I’m wrong!

On that Johnson bar when you do your additional gear down checks make sure to push it forward and try to pull it down and not just back towards you. It is possible for it to lock enough to not pull back and still not be fully engaged. Glad to see you're having fun, get there'itis is sometimes a problem for pilots.
Do you kinda pull it down and back to check it’s locked then Tim? Like at a downward 45? Just bought an E looking forward to transition training and will take any tips
Gringo Loco just straight down without pushing the button. It should be locked so you won’t be able to pull it down. During the annual get in the cab while it’s on jacks and play around with it.

My Time To Fly is there a reason you didn’t just use the RAM yoke mount that attaches to the shaft? I have one of those works well in a Cessna 172. Did you try the standard shaft mount style or just jump to the claw to make sure it didn’t interfere?
Great question! On the Mooney, there is very little space between the yoke and the instrument panel when the yoke is fully forward. The claw attached to the shaft would inhibit full nose down pitch.
