    I am looking for the name of the short film in which Nan Goldin's "Nan and Brian in Bed" photo is shown in a scene. Does anybody know the name of the movie and/or where can I watch it?

    Probably a good idea to remember that the FDA played a huge role, not securing appropriate regulation...🤔

      I think this case now opens the door for them to be prosecuted if that’s even possible. I’m in the United Kingdom so not sure about the legality of that possibility. But this case is landmark and will open the door for an unprecedented amount of case that in reality should bring the FDA to its knees. If it happens? Who knows. But this case wow!! Outstanding!!

      People are not dying from prescription opioids. People are dying almost entirely from illicit drugs and polypharmacy including alcohol. Most overdoses involve illicit fentanyl, alcohol, and a combination of say least 4 other illicitly obtained drugs. The average number of drugs in overdose patients is 5 and 99% of the time, none are prescribed to the patient.
      I'm an emergency medicine physician and haven't seen one person in my ER in over ten years who has had a problem as a result of prescription opioids. Prior to that, most problems with opioids prescribed to the patient dealt more with pruritus than anything else.
      Prescriptions for opioids are at a 30 year low. Since 2016, prescriptions for opioids have been cut by over 65%, while deaths from illicit opioids are up 600%.

      And so are methadone, codeine, and tramadol. All opioids. They are essential to medicine because they really work for pain. The problem here is that they are all addictive and the Sacklers got doctors to hand them out like candy.

    I was prescribed a medication with opium when I complained to my GP of knee pain. Luckily for me,these pills made me sick so I could stop taking them. Anyway, I didn't see the point of NHS GP prescribing a pill that can only be taken for 3 days because of the risk of addiction. 🤔

    • @ChronicPainInTheAss
      @ChronicPainInTheAss 11 місяців тому

      The risk of addiction is actually very low. Less than 3% of patients prescribed opioids ever develop a problem with addiction. Most people take their medication, like any other medication, and move on with their lives. Stigmatizing any drug is irresponsible and futile. It hurts those whose lives have been destroyed by terminal illness or severe chronic pain.

      The Sackler family didn't do anything that any other business does. Dopesick was purely fiction. If you're unconvinced, take it from the #1 addiction researcher in the US, Dr Carl Hart.
      Dr Hart is the head of psychology and psychiatry at Columbia University and is very much against US drug policy. As an emergency medicine physician with over 30 years experience, the fact of the matter is that you can't vilify any drug or any class of drugs. It's irresponsible.

    And in so doing, Nan Goldin helped take away the only medication that helps my dying daughter, also a photographer. Sorry, I am losing my compassion for addicts who chose their drug of choice when my daughter did not choose pain, uses her medications responsibly but is treated like scum. Chronic pain patients have no rights. Addicts get so much more help than CPPS .Addicts have made the constructed opioid crisis worse for us. We get no high, nor do we seek any like addicts do. We are the forgotten.

    Nan Goldin is nothing more than an opportunist who was using heroin long before she ever took OxyContin. The fact of the matter is that she is an addict and addicts shouldn't take opioids without very close supervision and without making their surgeon aware of their addiction. She was irresponsible in her use. It was certainly not the fault of anyone but Nan.
    As a physician who's worked in emergency medicine for well over 30 years, I have experience with what's actually going on and It's maddening when people talk about this subject with no real understanding.
    Every year in the US, an average of 30,000 people die from illicit drug overdoses? Don't quote numbers during covid because they were very clearly anomalies. Every year in the US, an average of 488,000 people die from tobacco product use? Every year in the US, an average of 110,000 people die from alcohol use. That doesn't include deaths from drunk drivers. The sole reason the US government is going after pain mgmt doctors and chronic pain patients is because the addiction treatment industry is now second only to the US private prison system, in terms of profits and GDP. It's also the #1 reason people file for bankruptcy in the US. There's a TREMENDOUS amount of money to be made off the backs of people struggling with addiction and their families. What they're not going to tell you is that Suboxone, used to treat opioid addiction, is the #1 most difficult drug to withdrawal from.
    In case you're unaware, the movies Dopesick and Painkiller are both purely fiction. They were used to sensationalized the opioid epidemic, which is almost entirely based on illicit opioids. The US governments crackdown on FDA approved opioid analgesics is irresponsible. Prescription opioid analgesics are far safer than acetaminophen when taken as directed by a physician. The FDA and other organizations have called acetaminophen the most dangerous drug on the market today, and rightfully so. I've seen more people come into my ER with complete liver failure because of acetaminophen than all the people I've seen who've been prescribed opioids. The only people who are dying are people taking illicit fentanyl, or illicitly obtained opioids. People suffering with severe chronic pain, and those who've undergone major surgeries
    can't get treatment with FDA approved, very safe, and very effective opioid analgesics, because of the mess the addiction treatment industry has created. Less than 3% of people prescribed opioids will ever go on to abuse street drugs.
