As a guitar tech for many years and having owned several Taylor guitars in that time, I just hope everyone can appreciate how considerate and thoughtful Andy & Bob are in their approach: always starting with the fundamentals, understanding the reason why things work in a certain way, respecting tradition while constantly pushing forward - those two gentlemen are a rare breed. Hats off to you, Andy & Bob!

I just played a GT811E after bringing a Martin HD-28 back. I found out that my 71 year old artheritic shoulder couldn't take the HD-28. But the smaller GT811E feels sooooo good! It feels more like my Gibson LG01 from 1964! But sounds so much better. I may be a buyer soon!

I got the GTE today from Haggerty Music and all I can say is that I was stunned after playing it through my Fishman Loude X Performance Acoustic amp. The tone is unreal - do not be fooled by the size and the flat finish. The sustain is amazing, it goes on forever and the tone, the pitch, the feel of the neck are all perfect. Now, here is what I compared it to: I own 10 guitars, 8 Taylors, a 1963 Gibson Hummingbird and a custom made electric that is as good as any I have played. I also have a Gibson bass, Fender bass, Yamaha bass, and even an acoustic Taylor GS-mini Bass (so that is 9 Taylor guitars - 13 guitars total if you count the bass guitars). The Taylors are a: 514CE, LKSM 6, LKSM-12, Koa T3B, Koa T5, Koa T5Z-12, GA3-12, GS-Mini Bass, and now a GTE.
I'm not listing them to brag, but to show that this comment is from someone who owns a lot of very fine guitars and know how they sound and how they play. I live with them and play different ones every day. And this GTE will end up being played the most I think. I can't get over just how damn good it sounds.
Thank you Mr. Taylor and Mr. Powers. You nailed it!

Wow, I could listen to Bob and Andy go on about their craft for hours. Super-fascinating insight to luthier art and theory, as well as material discovery, experimentation, and business practicality, all sewn together in the creative process. I’m just re-learning to play guitar later in life and discussions like this one really fire my imagination for what’s possible the more I learn and grow as a player. THANK YOU!

Bein honest I currently play a Martin D35 but Taylor is by a long way my favourite guitar brand acoustic or electric. Everything about Bob and Andy just fills me with hope for the future of the guitar. A wonderful company

    • @longtalljay

Only Taylor guitar to match a production model D35 (which I also play) would be the Dan Crary model dreadnought. Taylor makes the most playable necks, but they are misguided in phasing out traditional dreadnoughts.

I absolutely love the GT. I got a GTe mahogany, and it surprised me how much often and how much long I play this guitar, even if I have other more expensive and famous models. It’s so easy and good and intimate and sound perfect with a resonance that I find “mine”. I wanted another guitar to use at office (covid time… office is in reality my 2nd house), and after failed tentatives with other vendors, I bought another GT, the 811, and ..uaoh… it’s GREAT! The GT is my definitive guitar.

Bob Taylor strikes me as a wonderful Humanist. A man who understands he makes a living from the Forest and is willing to harvest only what is required and sustainable in the longterm. I would add that seeing Andy and Bob together on a podcast is very informative, for me a wonderful insight into top tier woodworking, production, sustainability and new ideas into creating some of the finest Guitars. Look forward to trying one for myself in the near future.

That scale length story is great. We can easily tune western strings half a tone, one fret lower. When you want that slinky feel, and a guitar that still has standard tuning, you simply build it one fret shorter. Brilliant. It is indeed like playing a capo on the first fret, so you could just as well build yourself a neck that size. Smart thinking!

Just wondering if I should wait a bit to see what other versions will come... thank you for your vision, innovation and integrity!

I feel like I am cheating on my bar chords, and I can actually reach around to dampen the low E string! Thanks so much for bringing me joy! I really appreciate the dedication and expertise that you guys put into your instruments and always continue to make them even better ! Also I love how you continue to introduce more and more sustainability into guitars that are built on a very high level.
But there is one thing that I'd really like you to reconsider. That is that you have decided to kick out your Jumbo Format guitars a few years ago. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a 2009 Taylor 615 and think it is a wonderful guitar. I love how it resonates and develops it's sound and response character over the years. And also I love it for it's look and how it sits to the body. I'm sure if you together would reissue this model the outcome would be stellar. 👍
    Best greetings from Germany, Matthias

Is it true the design of the 714ce "V" bracing was messed and that is why you withdrew it, after a short time in the market place.
You also came up with the story; how the all body Koa which replaced the Lutz top & rose wood back sides; which was a curious pairing which didn't really work( very bassy) sighting the koa was more affordable, reducing these Koa guitars normally 6k guitar to 3.5k? I wonder how many got stuck with the withdrawn 714ce V?

What do you say to the people that are just haters or custom guitar builders that say v class is crap or a gimmick just to sell more guitars ? I know you make both x and v so is there one you like better or do you like the v class better now? I just bought a 324ce and I’m a little worried that maybe the v class isn’t what I thought it are these people that don’t like it just jealous? Did I get a great sounding guitar? I’m new to guitar only a few years so I’m not expert. Thanks for any thoughts and advice. -Ryan

I would start a side company if I was Taylor for affordable acoustic guitars. Still Taylor brand because their precise cutting and quality is above par. Nothing over 1,000. 400-800 range. Get rid of pick guards because soon no one will want to use picks, no inlays because all natural is what we’re needing in this world and keep the original bracing. Charge 200-300 for those fancy bracings. I have a big baby Taylor and she sounds just as good. I fingerpick so that’s probably why the sound is more robust compared to using a pick. I paid 500$ and it was made in the Mexico factory. I couldn’t be happier. Plus I have a couple thousand saved up for unexpected events. It really is the player not the TONE wood or the looks that make it sound good. Everyone has a free speech though. That was mine.

  • @kady275

Guys, how about a natural finished version. I am thinking that it would resemble a maple body and would allow you to see the grain and the natural beauty of the ash. I just think the stain detracts from the whole approach that you have taken here. An all wood guitar is all about the wood!

There is a culture of bad criticism whenever a change arrives at what is considered “traditional design” mostly because the old timers MADE it known that their way was the BEST way, but now we understand there are many great ways to do many better things. Unfortunately it will be a few decades to centuries for Taylor and builders like Andy to undo the snobbism permeating in guitar culture, it will take an open mind on the musicians side and an acceptance of NEW design for NEW projects, of course the OLD WILL always be revered, but we can’t hate on Andy and builders like him for discovering that the Sun is the center of the Solar system.
