  • Bridging the gap between the world of travel guitars and full-size instruments, the Taylor GT offers a compact, comfortable acoustic guitar playing experience paired with a bold, robust musical voice. With its shortened scale length and sleek curves, the Taylor GT acoustic guitar body shape serves up a punchy midrange with crisp highs, while the C-Class bracing inside helps the guitar produce a surprisingly rich, powerful bass range from a small instrument. With its slinky feel and sleek neck profile, the GT is one of the easiest-playing acoustic guitars you’ll ever play-even if you’re used to electric guitars like pro jazz player Molly Miller. Watch as Taylor’s Monte Montefusco talks with Molly and master guitar designer Andy Powers about what it means to have an acoustic guitar that covers so much musical ground despite its small size.

Andy and Taylor Guitars, thank you for the GT. I purchased an Urban Ash in early December, 2020 and I've missed a total of 4 days practicing/playing since then. I am a beginner, but have owned another guitar since 1972 ... I just never learned to play it (a CONN F-10, from the band instrument company). The GT UA changed all that for me. Again, thank you.

I just purchased a brand new 2021 (2024 now), and it is fantastic. Giving it bone saddle nut, k&k mini, nice strings, a bit of fretwork. My new number one.

all the parsing of this and that aside, I will say this: I played one and I was hooked immediately. This GT is so much FUN to just play that it has not left my hands since I bought it (except to sleep!).

Andy may be a genius luthier but he's a killer player too! Not sure if these comments are monitored; however, looking seriously at the 811. What would be the pros and cons of this as a 12-Fret? ? Awesome thank you!

This is a good format and a good length! Only suggestion is to swap Monte and his side table so he is not sitting 'behind' Andy for the whole conversation.

I'm not one who stays up with the latest and greatest guitars. I usually have a couple of accoustics in my house. I went to my local guitar store yesterday to check out the GT. I ended up purchasing the AD17, but I think I'm going to go back and add the GT to my collection. Seems like a fun guitar to sit on the couch with and play-away.

I wish someone would make a steel-string acoustic guitar with the neck width , at the nut, of a 12 string. I have average hand size but a normal six-string width seems to cramp my hand. BTW, 50 years ago, I used a Guild 12 string (F112?) with six strings which suited me fine.

They now call them ads; in my day we called them commercials. I say this not to be mean, I just think it's important to make up your own mind when it comes to purchasing an expensive musical instrument. And by the way, I'm sticking with my GS Mini Mahogany.

As someone who loves shorter scale guitars (older arthritic player) I want to love the GT (It should be the next guitar I buy) but to me, the Urban Ash sounded thin and wiry (in some demo's where idiots banged the hell out of it I would have preferred a box of spanners falling from the 10th floor) and I was looking forward to the Koa edition but nothing I have heard in terms of demos convinces me and at the suggested price its not good value tonally in comparison to similar priced Taylor Koa guitars. Other than I want another shorter scale Koa guitar. I have come to the conclusion that either I simply do not get the GT as a grown-up GS Mini or there is simply a rarified air that only Master Luthiers breath that allows Andy Powers to hear what us mere mortal do not. Or the GT is simply the Emperor's new clothes. I say this as someone with a lot of respect for Taylor Guitars, what they are and what they do but the GT has me scratching my head.

Was also not impressed w/ Urban ash. I own(ed) a 712 12-fret and gs mini koa plus for comparison. The Koa is price wise right next to the k22 12-fret so, I think you'd have to prefer the body (or just cash not be a problem). That being said, I think the 811 is impressive. Compared to my 712ce its only a little less (sound) depth, some of that 800 series chime, but I can only use the word "astonishing" for how easy it is to play. And I"m already playing a 712 12-fret daily which is itself really easy. Its just hard to describe, its closer (in ease) to my electric than it is to my gs mini, somehow. Anyways, I think you give up a bit on the sound, but its (811) still pretty great, so I think if you want the playability, its def in a class of its own of the 20 or 30 guitars I've tried out this year. FWIW I don't think the way they played in this demo brings out the best in them, I think flat picking / light strumming is their sweet spot sound wise.

@@ChristopherLoverich Thanks for the insight I have heard people saying more about the 811 version seeming to be the sweet spot of this model. Gonna get out and try some soon.

To reply to my own comment as I might have been a bit negative as much as I want to be positive about shorter scale guitars which I love. I have now managed to get out to stores and do some back-to-back testing and for what I like to play I still find the Urban Ash just too thin and wiry, played against a GS mini my weapon of choice on most days I would still stick with the mini. I also played the 811 version and to be fair that was a much nicer-sounding guitar more even and balanced with a nicer mid. I would like to get my hands on the KOA version as koa tonality is something I enjoy so better than I have heard on video in the real world but I get the impression the UK has not yet really seen many if any Koa version.

The song they are playing has no lyrics as it’s an instrumental. The video is a demo of guitars. Why would there be singing?
