My father in law has beehives, and I stay far away from them. Sometimes, he doesn't use the protective gear either when he works in his beehives. He has been stung many times, and it doesn't bother him. He says it's good for his arthritis.😮. He builds his own beehives boxes. Last year, he had over 50 pounds of honey he put in jars.
That’s a lot of honey!! Ive seen a lot of bee keepers that don’t wear any protective gear. That’s why I wanted to just go ahead and get the full experience! I also read about the health benefits of bee venom, pretty interesting
Oh my gosh, just fantastic. Woody is great. I want to hear him talk about mites, colony collaspe, all of the things that are taking a toll on the bee populations and why we need to save the bees. I am excited about the classes too. Very, very important to crops and sustainability. Label time, too! Love it, Robert!! 👍👍❣️❣️❣️❣️
@@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG when he was talking about the "girls" I thought the only female was the queen. He is super knowledgeable about bees like Miss Vicki is about plants.
This is awesome! My dad was a beekeeper and we learned so much about bees from him. Woody does a fantastic job explaining things! Bees are really intelligent little creatures and our flowers, vegetable plants, trees, etc. need them very much to keep the environment balanced and productive.
Awesome! This is great idea having bees on the Old Byrd Farm. I learned a lot today n looking so forward to learning more. This has always been in the back of my mind that it would be good to have bees on the farm. I’m loving it. Really amazed at how calm Woody was with the bees. I don’t think I could do it as I’m always moving to fast. He was great with the knowledge. Can’t wait for more on bees. ♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟🐶
Robert, this was fascinating, from start to finish. If I was still teaching, I would share this with my students. Woody is so calm around the bees. I envy you your pollinizers. With my 17 blooming blueberry bushes, I had very few bees. We had a swarm one day for about an hour before they took off. Darn. I used the electric toothbrush approach which worked very well. The bushes are loaded with blueberries. Thanks so much for knowing this would bee fascinating. 🐝🐝🐝
You are becoming a true farmer prepared for any thing. Woody is very knowledgeable. It's amazing he had no bee suit on or used smoke. Your videos are awesome
Robert that is wonderful!! My grandfather had been hives many years ago & we always got free honey. I have been a garden for 70 years and I work right in and amongst them & the only time I ever got stung was when I squeezed them between my fingers or they got under my arm & I pressed them against something or my body. However when I was a kid we had a lot of clover in our yard and I was always bare footed & of course stepped on them so I do know what it's like to get stung. Looking forward to see them busy pollinating all your flowers & veggies !! Your garden is sure looking good brings the want to out in me. I'm the happiest digging in the dirt !!! Makes for a good & satisfying day !!
So excited to see and learn more about bees! I've been a fan of bees since my 3rd grade teacher had a window hive at school. Love watching all your videos.
Robert, this was a terrific video. Learned so many things about bee keeping. I had a father-in-law who kept bees and he would give me racks of honey, nothing like honey from your own area. Will be looking forward to seeing more videos on your venture as a great place to have bees. Thank You so much.👍😍❤️
It's great to not only seeing the house being brought back to life but the farm itself coming back to life and how nature is being used to achieved that.
Yes!! I love bees and honey! My name, Deborah means bee🐝 I can’t wait to taste some Old Byrd Farm Honey! And such a knowledgeable teacher. He’s completely at ease with his bees. You’re going to end up with a real old fashioned farm Robert. All this diversity is a good thing. ❤️🐝🤗
great video and just a wonderful thing to do to help support all the flowering plants and fruit, farms anything with flowers bees pollinate, that is how we get all of the vegetables and fruits! with out them, no food! “ honey im home “ is a great name for a bee rescue group! keep up the great work.
Fascinating. I already knew about the healing properties of honey, we use a medical-grade honey to treat wounds for our Hospice & Home Health patients.
My husband kept bees for 70 years so I can tell that Zac is a very skilled bee keeper. The Italians are nice bees to work with but they produce brood all winter. That means they can starve in the winters up north here. We had better luck with the carneolans because they stop producing brood in the winter. Scraping the stinger out with a credit card works well. Yes I have been stung by more dead bees than live ones. Ask Zak why they dive bomb my hearing aids.
This was awesome! My Dad used to keep bees and I loved to help. I want hives so bad but can't afford them and can't find anyone that would bring their hives here. You need to tell Aaron about this guy. They lost their hives over the winter and want to get more started.
Other Robert..I had poison ivy that got all over my arms and face and I was miserable for weeks. I thought my face was going to have scars. I wouldn't be around bees either although my husband had a couple of hives in our back yard until they swarmed My brother-in-law has hives currently in his yard.
I loved watching this episode!I have enjoyed every episode and am so excited to see all the amazing changes. I will continue to look forward to all the new episodes you put out.

This is some seriously fascinating stuff Robert. I'm hooked and already looking forward to more information. Many thanks to you and Woody for bringing this to us!
Thats amazing. I'd b wearing the gear myself. I have two cousins of diff genres that have a debilitating illness similar to arthritis. They suffer with lots of pain in joints, etc. One of those cousins actually gets bee treatment therapies. She says it helps her a lot. Im glad u will b doing classes. Bee keeping is very involved & tedious constant work. Well maybe in the beginning anyway while ur still learning. But what do I know .. lol. Cant wait to listen & watch more. Thnx for sharing Robbie. Now the Ole Byrd Farm is extremely buzy🐝 🐝 You know sadly the honey bee is the only stinging insect that dies after a sting. Their stinger is barbed. When they inject their stinger & pull the abdomen away, their guts/venom sack get pulled out as well. Other stinging insects stingers are smooth so they can sting you more than once & they don't die afterwards, like thise dreaded wasps & yellow jackets.
I’m familiar with mason bees (They’re native to North America) but I don’t know much about honey bees so this is going to be a learning experience for me. Thank you!
Its good thing. Untill year ago we kept bees in my family from my father's side.🐝🍯 Same box stile as in the video. But for some reason during the pandemic they started dying off. We had over 40 boxes fully populated, now its less than 10. You need smoke device for them, bee suilt that comes with hat and mash and special pies that are placed in the box...or have the specialist over regularly.
😮 Oh my Word ! 🐝 Bees 🐝 and more Bees ❤ I have heard that there really are Bee Charmers out there. Alot of times they are the Old folks an sometime you get some you train, but give these bees a Flower Graden so big an so wide an just filled full of Wild flowers.
