The beautiful ending ("Oh satisfy us early with thy mercy"), after all that mighty anger, always brings a tear to my eyes. Cleobury and his musicians are great, as always.
Charles Ives might have been depressed while writting this? The entire song is very gloomy and discordant even by Modernist Standards and the obvious religious overtones.
One of the most awesome uses of musical metaphor ever. I still get chills when I hear the last section. So beautiful!
Having sung under one of the world's greatest choral conductors - Dr. Elmer Iseler - this is one of the most exciting works I have had the privilege to sing. Hearing it evokes countless wonderful memories of my years under Dr. Iseler's baton. May he rest in peace.
Peter Armstrong I was so fortunate to discover Dr Elmer Iseler in the early '80s on CBC Choral. Living in Ann Arbor MI I was still able to drive to Toronto to the Chorus and Mendelssohn singers. I so loved the Iseler Singers each section but also the wonderful altos. Thank you for reminding me of the gorgeous singers years ago. Michael H James, MI 2017
mmmmm, one of Ives most brilliant works performed beautifully. Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you!

Absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing.
A work of great musical "substance," with effective word-painting. A wonderful performance.
Just wonderful; fabulous! Bravos galore!
Love, Love this piece. We did it in college also. Judson College, Elgin, under the direction of Edward Thompson. Loved the organ part and tubular bells!
Very Beautiful
This is a GREAT piece to perform! I did it about 40 years ago in college!
This is haunted af. Fantastic job to the man behind this.
Rest in peace Harry Milholland, July 13,1929-March 29, 2015
Performing this piece in a few weeks!
Très poétique !
