    Excellent interview with Roky, and him being the be-here-now artist that he is, playing what arrives in his world expressively, "Tambourine Man", "Creature With the Atom Brain", and of course, "2-Headed Dog". Roky's a major contributor to my theory that in every living being, including humans, there's a certain degree of The Wild.

    I picked him and his old lady up once when they were hitch hiking down South 1st street in Austin in either 1977 or 78. After they were in the truck, he told me who he was, and then she pulled out a butcher knife, and said, "don't be worried about this". "We're just going down to the park to dig up some plants." It was weird, but nothing happened other than that. I had seen The 13th Floor Elevators at the Vulcan in 1967, so I recognized who he was after he told me. I think he did a stint in the Austin Sate Hospital during that time period. I'll just say he is eccentric.

      @@brubeck1 I just found this dude while searching for Wednesday 13 “I walked with a Zombie” man this guy has an amazing voice reminds me kind of a Led Zeppelin and bands of that time but with a more raunchy unique twist I no-rules punk rock n roll attitude. Like I get the feeling that he loves what he does and he does what he loves, and that is what he’s there to do live and without overproduction and the fussing for pushing perfection in the spotlight which often imo removes some of the human element and the whole reason for watching, enjoying and feeling live music. I mean I could really feel him playing that acoustic guitar singing about being on the right track now. Something everyone can relate to in many ways.
      I myself am trying to get back on track again now.

      Yeah, this documentary is literally the only existing interview footage of what the old Roky was like. Everything else, whether it was audio or video, Roky either sounded like he wasn’t mentally there, or like he was putting on an Andy Kaufman routine. It’s nice to catch a glimpse of what his personality would have been like in the 60’s. You can see how he made such a huge impression on people, he was beyond intelligent. By all accounts, it appears Roky only started going off the rails following forced electroshock therapy while he was on an acid trip. Before then, I never found any reported evidence of him being uncommunicative.

      @@zippymufo9765 ECT destroyed both Roky and Peter Green (the original leader of Fleetwood Mac). Peter Green literally lost his ability to play guitar because of it. He had to relearn from scratch, and that’s why the bands he played with since always had somebody else playing lead for him.
      It also really messed up Lou Reed as a teenager, and caused his personality to completely shift.
      ECT is primitive junk science and ought to be outlawed. There’s so many better existing alternatives.

    • @psychedelicpiper999
      @psychedelicpiper999 8 місяців тому

      Part of me thought that, too. But to be fair to Roky, a lot of Alice Cooper songs weren’t explicitly horror-themed. Especially not in 1969 and 1970. Alice Cooper was still a psychedelic rock band back then.
      The horror theme theatrics came much later, and even then, it was more in the stage show than in the actual lyrics of the music.
      Roky explicitly sang in his lyrics on every song on “The Evil One” about ghosts, demons, aliens, zombies, vampires, you name it. So it is fair to say Roky was the first, before The Misfits and bands like that.
