When people say this band isn't "original" or that they are "generic", they are not considering the fact that they pioneered this style. Most of the bands that sound like this took the style from THIS BAND.
Also, who the fuck cares? People who complain about that kind of shit are generally the type of persons who are so pathetic and fucking lame, that they have to put anything and everyone else down to feel slightly better about themselves. Even if just for a moment.
Gabriel Kenoyer Amen. If only the "original" bands were allowed to make music there would be a handful of bands across all genres. Nothing wrong with taking a known sound and adjusting into your own. Music is about expression, it's not a competition.
2:38 "THERE IS A HOLE IN THE CLOUDS!" Whatever is dying in this song just saw its final moments. This song melts my ears in into euphoric paste, then eats me for breakfast!
Still one of my all time favorite breakdowns. Wasnt even really a fan of "the breakdown" until this. This song took it to a whole new level. THERE IS A HOLE IN THE... CCCCLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone talking about the old the shit compared to the new. Sounds like acacia strain to me. Love it or hate it, they dont give 2 fucks what you think.
I really wish they would have kept this guitar tone for the new album. DON'T get me wrong, new album goes hard af but the tone is just SO DAMN DRY and barely able to be called "saturated." INB4 people calling me a faggot or whatever. I just feel like it could have been just THAT much heavier with this massive sounding guitar tone.
I actually think the exact opposite. It became almost too "middy" almost "boxy." Like, too much 500k. The tone was super dry which is never a bad thing, especially with that low of a tuning. But I wished they would have just maybe turned the gain knob up just a smidge just to color the sound a bit more.
HUGE step up from Death Is The Only Mortal. The fact that people are saying this EP doesn't sound like "the old" shit is blowing my mind, this is the most "classic" sounding TAS in ages. Have half the people saying that this doesn't sound like the old shit even LISTENED to the old stuff? This sounds like The Dead Walk mixed with Wormwood. It's fucking awesome.
and life is very long has shitty production, im pretty sure most will agree. i think they hit it on the head with 3750 in terms of sound. vince was still a lil dirty on that mix *(i fucking loved it) but drums/bass geetawr was fucking sick....each album has been a steady progression of better everything (save DITOM only 5 really tight jams on that one....) i think with this ep, it just goes to show that every once in a while out with the old and in with the new is something of true HATE/beauty....they crush this shit.
WOW. To me, the height of The Acacia Strain was Continent. They really found their groove on that album and the production was on point. Wormwood felt like they were just really uninspired. Death Is The Only Mortal sounded like they were starting to become interested in what they were doing again, but it was sort of a hit or miss album. These new tracks sound fucking pissed. They have classic Acacia energy and anger behind them. Driving, brutal, fun.
The Acacia will always be one of my favorites. They just get more and more intense every release. I don't understand how anyone could find this boring. Shit makes me wanna trash everything in sight! This songs bomb, almost sounds like they tuned down a half step, but can't put my finger on it. Guess I gotta learn it
The thing I love about the Acacia Strain is that the lyrics are actually a real strong point. Most deathcore lyric videos are just embarrassing, but this is awesome.
na. go back in acacia's history. go back in any bands history of music. whitechapel used to do make it, chelsea grin, as i lay dying. theres no way bands do not get better over time. i was talking about like over decades
Rob I If you want to talk about 'going back' i can name a few bands in which became immensly popular but never had that 'inaudible, trashing' noise as you put it. Let's take example Underoath, i guarantee you if you ever listened to them when Dallas was still the lead, you'd never expect it was them. All i could hear is immaturity in the music because they hadn't been doing it for very long. It's not inaudible, it's the stylistic changes in the genre of rock. If you can't see that, then i don't think you've like rock long enough to understand EVERY type of music goes through that phase. What you're progressing to say is that you hated old, trash rock and like the new-aged type which i completely disagree with. Including the fact that you listed old bands that were actually better than they were now 'lyrically' and saying it's 'inaudible'. I'm not gonna type a passive-aggressive tense, but you really need to look in on more bands.
Ahhhhh shit so sick acacia strain your fuckin sick every album you guys drop is better then the last keep fuckin doin what you do an ill keep promoting your songs an shows
The truth is, no matter what The Acacia Strain does, there will always be people bitching about their style. Too much chugging? Complaints. Not enough chugging? Complaints. More technical? They're ripping off Meshuggah. They are making what THEY want to make. They aren't making the music to please anybody. With that being said, I think that this is an awesome song. Keep it up, TAS!
Wow they went ritardando through the WHOLE SONG! That is such a heavy technique, but I wonder how they can beat The Chambered Nautilus in this album...
Rise definitely hasn't changed their sound. DL was an amazing guitarist and song writer, but their new line up is more than capable of writing heavy beats, as witnessed here. So keen for the 7".
I love all their albums. There is no doubt that they're my favorite band and have been for a long time. And personally, I love their wormwood/death is the only mortal sound more than anything. I still love continent, but after a while the overall sound of the album does get annoying, then I just throw in death is the only mortal or wormwood:) Wormwood has always been my scapegoat from all other albums.
I was never a huge fan of these guys until recently. I mildly got into them right before I saw them live a couple of months ago (I mainly went for other bands, but they were the headliners) and I'm not gonna lie, they fucking kicked ass. I met Vincent before the show, and given his gargantuan height, he was cool as fuck. They were the only band that night that let people actually get on the stage and jump off (i.e. stage dive) and it was an amazing show.
I saw that The Acacia Strain and Emmure are putting their differences aside and are going to do a tour together, is this true? I would love to see both bands
Poison the Well, This is Hell, Bouncing Souls, Hot Water Music, I Can Make a Mess, Fear Before, Bleeding Through, Dave Hause, Face to Face.. all respectable bands that are or at one point were on Rise. Not to mention The Early November ad Further Seems Forever, both long standing stalwarts in the 'scene', but both have written some respectable songs (How to Start a Fire was a pretty good album). Rise seems to take care of their bands, more so than some majors and alot of smaller ones too.
I never said this wasn't good. I like it a lot. But I know for a fact that 90% of the people here miss the Wormwood days. But bands change, and I'll always support TAS.
They've been on rise for over a year now. they arent ruined. most bands on rise arent ruined. the only reason any bands on rise have been ruined (given there are very few) is because of themselves. its the fucking bands fault. rise is a good record company dude.
Everybody seems to keep talking about the wormwood days with Vincent's vocals, my personal favorite was continent, he sounded like a fucking dinosaur on that album, but no matter what direction they take I will blast TAS wherever I go.
I like how you said "horror theme" because that's exactly it haha They're great at making music like that. Technicality doesn't always make a great band. TAS has had this sound to them since the beginning and kept with it so I applaud them for that.
Brutal!!! Love The Acacia Strain and was wondering where they would go without DL musically! Only thing i'd like to see is Vincent change the lyrical content eventually haha
It's a grower. I'd say DITOM and Buster by Admiral Angry are the heaviest albums I've ever listened to. It has a lot of weak moments but it's pretty great. It will definitely appeal more to people who liked Wormwood. Those who didn't like it shouldn't even bother. But check it out. Brain Death, The Chambered Nautilus, and Mouth of the River are my favorites. I've actually been listening to it a shitload recently. It's worth a listen if you liked this song at all.
I like this way more then DL honestly. I'm an Acacia Strain fan through and through. But I'm always a progressive player, this is just what I thought they needed. Just a TINY bit more movement on the guitar! I love DL but I really dig this!
So from the art, lyrics, and visuals in the video, I'm guessing "Above" refers to crows/ravens and "Below" refers to rats? Not sure if this is common knowledge or if I'm on to something here
Try making new music of the same genre for over 10 years and stay exactly the same. You can only play the same riffs for so long til you try different stuff. I understand that their last cd wasn't as "good" as maybe some of the earlier stuff to some people but I appreciate the fact they are still one of the heaviest bands around. I wish them the best and I for one look forward to hearing them for another 10 years.
am i old? why is wormwood the acacia strain standard? what about carbomb? 4x4? dr. doom? cthulhu? the dead walk and continent were 2 of the best core albums, pretty much ever. wormwood felt like they were falling off to me. to clarify, "falling off" in acacia strain terms is like, say, mario bros. on wii to mario bros. on SNES; mario games are always gonna be fun to play, but super mario world is super mario world.
i dont think you know what "bitching" means. i asked why wormwood is getting more credit than the two albums prior. not that it doesnt deserve it. moron.
No matter how out of touch I get with todays metal, I always do enjoy a good TAS song. I would have hoped by now though they would have become a little more innovative. The audible Meshuggah influences and 'blahhh' were cool at first, but now I'd like to hear them come into their own sound, where 5-10 years down the road kids are trying to sound like TAS.
Nothing impressive about Rise? I'm making an assumption here, but I believe they probably have the highest income generated out of all the 'core' record labels. If not the highest, they're definitely near the top. That's pretty impressive. And I thoroughly enjoy a lot of Rise bands. The Acacia Strain, Miss May I, Hands Like Houses, Memphis May Fire, and a few more. There's a lot of talent in Rise. Whether you would like to admit it or not.
When people say this band isn't "original" or that they are "generic", they are not considering the fact that they pioneered this style. Most of the bands that sound like this took the style from THIS BAND.

Gabriel Kenoyer Amen. If only the "original" bands were allowed to make music there would be a handful of bands across all genres. Nothing wrong with taking a known sound and adjusting into your own. Music is about expression, it's not a competition.
Hipsters, basically.
How many hipsters does it take to change a light bulb? It's a very obscure number, you've probably never heard of it.
How bad does your ass hurt from pulling all that bullshit information out of it?
If people did their research they’d know better
Every single thing they do is pure gold to me.
2:38 "THERE IS A HOLE IN THE CLOUDS!" Whatever is dying in this song just saw its final moments. This song melts my ears in into euphoric paste, then eats me for breakfast!
"Did you scream did you whine did you cry, did you pray while they pulled out your fucking eyes?"
My favorite lyrics.
that final riff is just amazing. great song!
This is definitely in their top 10 best songs. The ending is just too good. So eerie and downright evil. Plus the tone is just fucking incredible.
me and my buddy play that breakdown when we jam..
One of the best outros I've ever heard
That “blegh” sooooo good
Everyone talking about the old the shit compared to the new. Sounds like acacia strain to me. Love it or hate it, they dont give 2 fucks what you think.
so because they dont care about what you think, don't discuss something you like?
what?
This still slaps soo damn hard ... Bleurgh
I agree 100%. They removed the last bit of middle end from the guitars on the new album.
I actually think the exact opposite. It became almost too "middy" almost "boxy." Like, too much 500k. The tone was super dry which is never a bad thing, especially with that low of a tuning. But I wished they would have just maybe turned the gain knob up just a smidge just to color the sound a bit more.
+Cameron Walega They used a Orange Thunderverb with the gain turned all the way up. I think it's well enough.
+Sebastian Ryderberg Opinions
I agree this is much more massive. Though I think the tone for Coma Witch fits its theme. Its so diluted and muddy. Its like swimming in a bog.
It's fucking awesome.
these songs are amazing can't stop listening to them.
technically the "old" acacia strain is "And life is very long" and this sounds nothing like that...
Well technically yes, but that album is tedious at best.
and life is very long has shitty production, im pretty sure most will agree. i think they hit it on the head with 3750 in terms of sound. vince was still a lil dirty on that mix *(i fucking loved it) but drums/bass geetawr was fucking sick....each album has been a steady progression of better everything (save DITOM only 5 really tight jams on that one....) i think with this ep, it just goes to show that every once in a while out with the old and in with the new is something of true HATE/beauty....they crush this shit.
I likes Wormwood.
That "Blegh" Vincent made was brutal
Hell yeah!
Just saw them last night at All Stars and I gotta say they killed it last night. Wished they where the main headlining band instead of I See Stars.
I fucking adore Wormwood !
vincents vocal theatrics are still better than ever
Through the eyes of a vulture...awesome. Also, this line right here is why I still love and listen to Acacia Strain..."We circle as you walk the line"
Sounds fucking awesome. I can tell Vinny is doing some different shit with his voice, hella beast.
The Acacia will always be one of my favorites. They just get more and more intense every release. I don't understand how anyone could find this boring. Shit makes me wanna trash everything in sight! This songs bomb, almost sounds like they tuned down a half step, but can't put my finger on it. Guess I gotta learn it
The Acacia Strain on Rise Records?
When did this happen?
The thing I love about the Acacia Strain is that the lyrics are actually a real strong point. Most deathcore lyric videos are just embarrassing, but this is awesome.
One of the most underrated tas songs
Not usually into the breakdown heavy stuff like this but god fucking damn is this massive. I might just get this EP.
this is so impending doom. i like it. i also like how all bands move from inaudible, thrashing noise to depth filled sounds with meaning
Then apparently you've been listening to shit bands.
na. go back in acacia's history. go back in any bands history of music. whitechapel used to do make it, chelsea grin, as i lay dying. theres no way bands do not get better over time. i was talking about like over decades
Rob I

this band is always on top form! TAS for life
Ahhhhh shit so sick acacia strain your fuckin sick every album you guys drop is better then the last keep fuckin doin what you do an ill keep promoting your songs an shows
they really need you
How could i have forgotten this song existed? it's so good i remember hearing it for the first time and i creamed my pants...
They change, people get mad. They stay the same, they sound generic. Kids are never satisfied...
I love the analogy being about crow or vultures being above us, circling ready to eat. A true and dark form of art. That's that shit I do like.
Still better than anything emmure has ever put out.
The drums are absolutely amazing. I love this song already.
Does anyone know where I can get the full image of the Crow and Rat with the lyrics all around them? I think I want it as my next tattoo.
Hit me up, i can draw you it (i drew the raven and bat for above / below album cover)
Hell yeah. Dude if you can get a good picture of it that would be fucking awesome.
Acacia Strain never disappoints as a whole. Plus anything with Vincents voice sounds great
THERE IS NOTHING THAT EPITOMIZES DOOM AND GLOOM LIKE THE END OF THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG
Great grilling music in the spring! I made sure the neighbors could enjoy it too
This band is pure fucking hate. There's not a song by TAS that isn't great. Forever in love
London Bell i paid to see them to get shit talked to me. Money well spent.
The epitome of badass.
that "BLEAH" at 3:21 gets me so hyped
THE AWARD FOR BEST CONCEPT ON A METAL EP GOES TO............
WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG AND ENJOY THE JAMS
:'-(((
I think this is the best TAS has made so far. So versatile within their own style.
Really dig their new tune. I've always loved TAS. This sounds a lot like material from wormwood
I can't stop listening to this single/EP, so damn good \m/
This is the best thing they've put out in years, literal tears, holy shit.
Wow they went ritardando through the WHOLE SONG! That is such a heavy technique, but I wonder how they can beat The Chambered Nautilus in this album...
hey don't call them retards!
Rise definitely hasn't changed their sound. DL was an amazing guitarist and song writer, but their new line up is more than capable of writing heavy beats, as witnessed here. So keen for the 7".
alone in the distance we rest on the rocks as we feast upon the rott!!! damn it the acacia strain you done it again.
this is exactly why i would love to see TAS again!
Thank you to The Acacia Strain for coming back!
Yall sounds the same live lol when yall coming to Minneapolis MN again??
It sounds like they're going back to how they sounded on The Dead Walk, I love it.

Agree to disagree I guess. That's what's great about heavy music, it's so diverse and you'll rarely find someone who has an identical taste. Cheers!
Yes go to their show if you got a city or venue their playing at around you
Holy.fuck that was bad ass
The Acacia Strain has groove. Something that technical metal guys hardly ever understand.
I saw that The Acacia Strain and Emmure are putting their differences aside and are going to do a tour together, is this true? I would love to see both bands
yep they are touring! unfortunately they are not coming to my city : /
They probably won't come to my city either
ThePWNisher13 where are you from
whats there differences?
ThePWNisher13 I just saw they both two nights ago. It was amazing!
Poison the Well, This is Hell, Bouncing Souls, Hot Water Music, I Can Make a Mess, Fear Before, Bleeding Through, Dave Hause, Face to Face.. all respectable bands that are or at one point were on Rise. Sick! We want to see more of Vincents Shoes in the next video!
They've been on rise for over a year now. they arent ruined. most bands on rise arent ruined. the only reason any bands on rise have been ruined (given there are very few) is because of themselves. its the fucking bands fault. rise is a good record company dude.
My favorite song for this month!
See you in Winnipeg boys July 30. Been too long since 2015 at Park theatre.
Love these guys. OGs!
Thank you for knowing what you are talking about and not being a 15 year old internet deathcore critic
They're getting better! I'm happy.
We have some awesome sickest stuff over here!
congrats, dodge. you've made me watch a full AD for the first time.
Sounds brutal as hell i can't wait for there new album
This is what their last full length should have sounded like... good stuff.
A fucking fantastic track wandering around an amazing artist penwork. I'm in love.
Everybody seems to keep talking about the wormwood days with Vincent's vocals, my personal favorite was continent, he sounded like a fucking dinosaur on that album, but no matter what direction they take I will blast TAS wherever I go.
somebody help me out are they gonna release a new CD or only a vinyl
I like how you said "horror theme" because that's exactly it haha They're great at making music like that. Technicality doesn't always make a great band. TAS has had this sound to them since the beginning and kept with it so I applaud them for that.
one of my new favorite bands
loved it
Brutal!!! Love The Acacia Strain and was wondering where they would go without DL musically! Only thing i'd like to see is Vincent change the lyrical content eventually haha
I like this song.. this is a good song.
The only time, "There is a hole in the clouds" can sound badass.
I like this way more then DL honestly. I'm an Acacia Strain fan through and through. But I'm always a progressive player, this is just what I thought they needed. Just a TINY bit more movement on the guitar! I love DL but I really dig this!
That breakdown had me bobbing for apples
I love this new sound so much!!!!!!! this,
and servant in the place of truth are so original!. bringing back wormwood but more heavy.
So, will this be available on iTunes or os it exclusive?
Watched this band live. So insane
Died you guys know if you combine all the tracks off this record it sounds like one big song??? That's soooooooooooooo coooool!!!!!!
Awesome song!!!!
So from the art, lyrics, and visuals in the video, I'm guessing "Above" refers to crows/ravens and "Below" refers to rats? Not sure if this is common knowledge or if I'm on to something here

Can't tell if this is released on the 11th of December or the 12th of November..
That breakdown is savage
Nothing to get wet over just another song to get lost in the play list
Love it! The production is ace aswell
am i old? why is wormwood the acacia strain standard? what about carbomb? 4x4? dr. doom? cthulhu? the dead walk and continent were 2 of the best core albums, pretty much ever. wormwood felt like they were falling off to me.
to clarify, "falling off" in acacia strain terms is like, say, mario bros. on wii to mario bros. on SNES; mario games are always gonna be fun to play, but super mario world is super mario world.
This! Is! True! Crime!
i dont think you know what "bitching" means. i asked why wormwood is getting more credit than the two albums prior. not that it doesnt deserve it.
This is the TAS we love. So brutal.
This sounds too fucking great! Hope you guys come to Brazil soon!!
