Had that version as well and legend was great also had the GameCube and psp versions gunna get legend with anniversary again....happy to have anniversary for the go great tomb raider!!!!!! Ugh, this is just impossibly difficult. I have no idea how this guy controls her so effectively. When Lara is facing a certain direction, and you press forward, she doesn't go forward in the direction she's facing, but rather in the forward direction relative to you! Makes her extremely difficult to control. Why would they screw the control system up like this for crying out loud??
Now eventually reached the gymnasium after about 1.5 hours of play, but finding it impossibly difficult. This game only cost me 76p, but it's way too difficult. They should have just made it exactly like the original but with better graphics.
Sorry mate, but almost all new games work that way. It's Tomb Raider's old control mechanic which is the outdated one. These days, forward means forward in the direction of the camera. Once you wrap your head around it, it's actually easier and smoother because you don't have to keep track of the arbitrary direction of the character. It allows you to actually look at the environment and still control the character efficiently. This became necessary when cameras became freely rotatable. But like I said, it's not a curse. Just like using ADSW instead of the arrow keys in doom, it requires some getting used to, but it's better once you do. This is not meant as an insult, but I suppose you haven't played any modern games for the past....10 years? And came back to this one because of nostalgia?
The controls are like 100x times smoother in TRA and TRL than they are in any other TR. (not counting the female Robin Hood reboot trilogy which is meant to be cinematic and often forces the player to walk, introducing unnecessary slowdowns etc.)

Anyone know how I can get the grappling hook to work? I have it and am in the gym but can’t use it on the hook high on up on the wall. Keeps selecting Lara’s guns but won’t let me choose grappling hook 😥
Lara's grapple can attach to certain objects in the environment. If you have Hint Icons enabled in the Options menu, you'll see a blue circle over an object that can be grappled. Press the grapple key(PC: Q key) to throw the grapple. Generally, Lara will automatically aim at the nearest viable target. Once the grapple is anchored, you can move as usual using direction keys/buttons (or left stick). Press Interact to pull on the cable. Press Grapple again to release the cable if necessary.

After using he grappling hook in the gym and climbing up the wall, I can’t seem to jump back into that sloped column to jump to the next one and grab the bar. Tried for ages and can’t find another way of getting there.
I got Problems at the Manor. She always hangs aslant on the rotating rod, and when I am at the climbing stones, she does not lean back, so that I can not jump to the opposite side. I think its a bug, how can i remove this bug.

i bought this game from GoG @14:30 for some reason the grapling hook holes didn't turn blue meaning i was always falling to the floor i solved this by adjusting the resolution from the options it's ok apart from the above problem nice video
How the heck do you jump backwards at 13m 50s??? She just keeps jumping and catching the same ledge as before. Done it about 30 times before, and very close to just jacking this game in.
No, when she starts swinging she'll only jump either to the left or right. No matter what buttons I press she won't jump backwards onto that slanted surface. It's simply flat out impossible.
No, she just jumps in the same direction as her swing each and every time. It makes no difference which direction I press with the stick thing (using an xbox type controller on a PC) You have to make her swing first using the left stick (with experimenting it seems pressing the stick up and down that makes her swing, albeit only slightly). And then you have to press the A button and the stick to the left? It seems to me to be problematic using the same stick to get her to swing and then using it to jump in a given direction. I wonder if using my keyboard will allow me to assign different controls for this . .hmm. OK, I'll give it one last shot today, before just giving up on the game.
Why does Tomb Raider Anniversary have high quality definition in this video. I have the game for ps2 but the visual quality is nowhere as good as it is in this video.

And when i open the door that leads to the garden, I have like two hallways. In this video there is only one. Wtf
Completed it! 3 hrs 4 mins something. Apparently there's supposed to be a time trial available for this level. Doesn't seem to exist so far as I can tell. If I play croft manor again it loads from a checkpoint half way through the game (where Lara enters the gym). If I restart the croft manor level, it starts from the beginning, but no countdown timer there, so looks like just the normal play-through. So how the heck do you access the time trial?? This game is very buggy incidentally. I had to create a profile otherwise the level just started from the beginning again each time I started the game. And one point I died after getting the bow, and the bow had completely disappeared from existence. I restarted the game to play the level again, but it loaded from the same point as I noted in previous paragraph (beginning of gym). Think it might have all screwed up and I'll need to replay it yet again to get the time trial option.

I’m guessing this is the PlayStation 2 version. I have the Wii version and it doesn’t do auto aim for grapple I still haven’t figured it out. I like the game but it drives me crazy in some ways. I played the original Tomb Raiders on PlayStation my favorite was the second one my least favorite the third. I still wish the new Tomb Raider had the option for auto aim I need it. Lol

That sliding puzzle is next to fucking impossible. Most of the times jumping will send you into a random direction or onto that ledge. If you hit the right part you arn't far enough to hit the next slipway... and lara will want to jump towards the right even if you are. And good luck rotating the camera enough to get the right jump vector either. Good god I'm so angry I've been jumping for half an hour.

I played the first 5 TR games. I've played a bit of Far cry 3, and left4dead 1 and 2. But nothing else I don't think in past 15 years or so.
I got to the 4th level, and decided I just don't like it. Now playing the original TR released in 1996.

Press "Left + Jump" to make her off the wall and land on top of the column. It's necessary to master the timing of pressing the button.

I've finally done it! I was pressing the back directional button most of the time. It's these crazy controls.
