- Lufthansa was once regarded as Europe's Best Airline, but sadly over the past few years, Lufthansa has made some serious cost-cutting. To find out just how bad Lufthansa had gotten I took a flight with them from Frankfurt to Chicago on the rare Airbus A340-300. Spoiler it was BAD!

Just flew lufthansa last week Chicago-Franfurt and back. We got two options for meal in the economy. I picked chicken and it was really good. It flight was really smooth, on time, and the crew was very nice.

Do you have anything positive to say? Even the airport was considered uninterested even though your visit was rushed by your own admission. Decor was dull and boring you said, looks similar to most other contemporary aircraft. I agree regarding the lack of choice of food. There is no excuse for that. However the sandwich looked comparatively reasonable. On a nice whole grain bread, it looked fine. How do you know that nobody ate it? Did you go through the whole of the economy cabi. to check? What economy seat does have a lot of storage space? At least you liked the cup holder, the salad, and the bottle of water. Such a negative and subjective review makes you seem totally un credible.

This review isnt correct. I think he is just an Lufthansa hater. Lufthansa is very good Airline compared with other Airlines in the world. Their First and Buisness class isnt the best compared to Ethiad or Emirates. But Lufthansa offers one of the best economys on long houl flights. Lufthansa is safe, has good food, good economy and nice on board entertainment
Sometimes I really ask myself what some people do expect on a flight from point A to B? I can still remember times when there never was a meal choice in economy. No one complaint! And tickets were much more expensive!
A former CEO of Lufthansa once said that an airline cannot serve every single individual taste. That's an impossible task. For all airlines.
I, for example, love pasta with a little pepper on it (provided on the tray), but I definitely would never choose a glass of sparkling wine with pasta!
Would you do if eating at an Italian restaurant? I don't think so.
Like all trip reports on UA-cam, this one is also very individual. Some agree, some don't.
BTW: what colors of the cabin interior would you expect, if the basic company colors are blue, yellow and silvery white?

Lufthansa will not equip their A340's with new inseat monitors anymore, because this type of aircraft is due to be replaced with the B787 or A350.
And, there never was a midflight service between FRA and ORD. Just on flights to the West Coast.
This is the issue with Lufthansa, they try to market themselves as a premium airline, yet always under-deliver. And when people complain about the service the response should not be "what do you expect on a flight from point A to point B", this is the type of response you would get from Ryanair a low-cost airline that is truly about getting from point A to B. But when you market yourself as premium (and have premium prices) YOU are more than just getting from point A to B rather it needs to be an experience that will leave a positive impact on the customer! If the culture in Lufthansa is really about getting from A to B, you are doomed to fail!
As for the meal service, nearly every airline on a long-haul flight offers 2+ meal options. As for the mid-flight snack airlines such as American, British Airways, Delta, etc, all offer mid-flight snacks on flights of similar length!
I would also not call this review individual, but rather across the board as everyone is having a very poor experience flying Lufthansa in the past few years.

If someone tells something negative about an airline, the majority agrees.
For me (retired since 2015, btw.) ALL reports about various airlines on UA-cam ARE individual opinions.
Some like it, some don't.
Very often, especially airlines from the Middle East, pay UA-cam-bloggers for their reports, or give away free or heavily reduced tickets to them.
And I do not expect them to say anything negative about their sponsors.
Concerning ticket prices: almost all airlines currently don't offer many discounted tickets due to high demand and the current situation on the oil market.
According to my access to the reservation system of Lufthansa, many flights worldwide are entirely sold out for weeks ahead. Especially on the north Atlantic.
Would that be the case if everything at Lufthansa is that terrible?

@@watchhans yes I agree with you that there in no such thing as a perfect airline, yet there are still GOOD airlines and BAD airlines. My goal of this channel is to inform people what you can expect on a certain airline so they can book a flight on the airline that most fits their needs. And as someone who as flown 200 flights in the past 2 years alone across many different airlines all over the world, I would say I have enough knowledge to determine which airlines and good and which ones should be avoid. Unfortunately Lufthansa is an airline I felt that way under delivered. If you also watch other Lufthansa reviews most people say the same things that I do.
LH announced a product- and serviceoffensive, the seats get really great, conserning the service: better lounges and services on the ground and most likely better service onboard

But what do you expect in the Economy cabin? Eco means focus on the price and the main thing is transport A to B to C.
Don‘t know why the cabin was that hot. Why not asking the crew. Maybe the APU was inoperative? For sure this would not be comfortable.

I just did an economy-class AA PHL to LHR on a 787-900 and return on a BA 777-300. I will say that the 787 was the most comfortable by far and the 777 was showing its age. AA's in-flight meal and snack service was nothing remarkable, but BA did step it up with a complimentary bottle of white wine and a vegetarian option. Both aircraft had sufficient seat pitch that my tall frame wasn't bothered by the 7 hour flight. The 787 was super comfy with the big windows and superior near sea-level cabin pressure. The 787's Panasonic in-flight entertainment system was super nice. The 777 wasn't bad at all, but the old Thales in-flight entertainment system was laggy and dated.
I'll be flying on a Lufthansa 340-300 next year and can say that I'm eager to take a ride in this iconic aircraft. Fortunately it will not be in hot weather so the lack of individual air vents (which is absurd) shouldn't be an issue. But I appreciate that Lufthansa as stepped back it's game to make the economy riders as profitable as possible. Hopefully I won't be as disappointed as the author of this review.
I fully expect FRA to be dated and confusing as well, but having suffered with LHR recently, it can't be that bad, can it? Fortunately its just a stop over.
I’m going to fly to Beijing with the same aircraft, that’s why I’m here to watch some feedback. I was a lil scared couse the A343 is old and really soon replaced by the A359 which I will fly back from Shanghai but via Munich. Honestly I was expecting a more obsolete product but I see a quite decent seat with the same LH level of service. I flown with them several times with different aircraft (A346, B744, B748 and A333) but there’s nothing horrible or bad in your video IMHO.
I am a german and flew once by Lufthansa economy, that was all and never again. My flight experiences is just same like yours and I hate the chaotic Frankfurt airport, I always use the Amsterdam, London or Zurich airports

It is true that Frankfurt is not the ideal airport, but you may use Munich. The airport in Munich is so much better.

Seats are not all about comfort. Soft seats will give you back pain pretty soon, while I can sit 13hrs on LH seats without any problems.
Flew Lufthansa FRA-IAH on the A330 which has a very similar seat to the A340. Similar experience, the sandwich was not to my liking, neither my seatmate or I ate it. The bread is very dense and crumbly. The seat felt firm and cramped as well. But honestly, United is not much better either, flew to Australia twice with them. Lufthansa seats do seem to have a better recline atleast.
In the various LH videos I've watched, pasta is the only meal I've seen. I tried to order a special meal for an upcoming flight from MUC-ORD, but I don't know if the request has been processed correctly.
I noticed that Lufthansa dropped the A340-300 flight and only operates the 747-8 flight. United has two flights on this route, the earlier one operated by the 787-10, and the later one operated by the 787-9.
They are still flying A340 300. We have just flown ORD- FRA and back.
The age of the aircraft is already noticeable, but I think that even so, even something like that can be comfortable if it is put in the right way. Until the 747 and the others of that heat and that economy.
Lufthansa in the past was a very good Airline but since ~5 years, Lufthansa is like Ryanair "low cost"

You seem to have a lot of resentment towards Germany and a German airline. I hardly know of any airline that serves 2 meals in economy on routes between Europe and the USA. Let's be honest, US airlines in particular don't exactly offer gourmet quality. The service isn't any better, nor are the seats. In addition, US aircraft are usually much older than those of European airlines. I always prefer European airlines, both the service and the on-board food are usually of better quality.
How does this affect your opinion on Lufthansa's other brands (Brussels Airlines, Swiss, Austrian, Edelweiss, etc.)?

I flew Lufthansa for the first time back in November from Budapest to Frankfurt and I'll never fly them again tbh. What ticked me off even though the inbound flight from Frankfurt was half an hour late to Budapest the crew still had the nerve to tell everyone multiple times to hurry up boarding because the flight was already late. Who's fault was that again?
Late flights happen all the time tho. I'd want them to hurry up tbh, so that I can arrive close to the original time. Frankfurt airport transit from non-Schengen to Schengen is a mess tho

well on this exact route including transfers to MXP you should try LOT, in the summer they serve ORD 2xdaily with amazing options for transfers through Europe, and the service, food with choice (super tasty) and 2nd service also sandwiches but they serve real super tasty sandwiches not a s..t like this, OMG I am schocked how Lufthansa downgraded itself, what a shit!

Flew Lufthansa from Frankfurt in May. Not impressed at all.
Maybe it is rare due to the inadequate comfort. Not sure but not worth it and the service you had was deplorable.
Many of these "once great" European airlines have gone downhill. Been flying Austrian airlines from Canada to Austria 1-2 times a year in the past years and can say that their economy class offering has really gone from good to mediocre. At least with air Canada across the pond, it's always been garbage (and the same menu for years) so my expectations there were minimal. I'll only fly LH from here because of the a350. They are forcing us to the premium cabins.
The only Good Thing was The A340-300 a lovely Aircraft 😍 Edelweiss The Swiss Holiday Day Airline is so much better in their Economy than Lufthansa :)

Atleast you had one option to choose. When I was flying from FRA to ATL they ran out of food, forgot to load a cart it seems so they handed over pre landing sandwiches as lunch. Disgusting.. Lufthansa is officially the worst airline.

Lufthansa always had the reputation as a premium airline, so it is sad to see their product in this current state. The effects of the COVID shutdown have not been kind to them.
In 2022, United is honestly better than Lufthansa in every respect. Better punctuality, cabin, entertainment, food, lounge, website/app, and no extra seat selection cost. But that is an extremely unpopular opinion because United had such a poor reputation for the past 20 years. Aside from food, I feel they've improved dramatically, while Lufthansa fell off a cliff.
