I’ve had the jr for 2 years
I love it
I've got a tiny Fender Joe Strummer Campfire acoustic and a Sawtooth mahogany parlor. Both have been great travel guitars, even using the criteria you used here. I really like the Orangewoods' clean look, and your sounds great. I may have to try this Jr. out.
I bought the Orangewood Dana Travel/Parlor Guitar . Very Nice Guitars !
Sounds huge nice one.
I purchased the full-size Oliver mahogany after your last review. I may need to get one of these also. You could have mentioned to short scale also!
Such a great guitar. I picked mine up last year and take it everywhere. Even dropped it a few times lol
Travel guitars are the perfect entry into nylon guitars. Smaller body but nylon sounds are still buttery smooth. Cordoba hit gold when they made the scale length slightly longer for the mini II. It sounds fantastic for it’s size.
I’ve seems demos of the Mini II from a family (two parents and two amazing kids - 9 and 11) that plays flamenco music called the Quarantined Quartet. I’d love to hear Jermey try out a nylon like that. It’s teeny and sounded incredible- nylons have very beautiful tones that are quite different from steel strings. I’d love to hear Jeremy try a few nylons, actually. They’re fun to play both favorite tunes and inspire very new ideas. But back to the travel part, the Cordoba Mini II really seems like it’s incredible to take places. It looks teeny.
I have a little Cort. Not my best sounding or nicest to play BUT it's what I play most. Sits by my side in my lounge. Other stuff is up the stairs!
I went with a Sheeran after watching you review one awhile back. I liked hearing a few bars of Jason Isbell, nice one Jeremy.
I have a Martin 0-15 12-fret custom shop that wouldn’t dare to camp with. My son loves it too, but he couldn’t afford one, and chose to get a Taylor Big Baby for his first acoustic. Now I want one for my travel guitar, because it ticks all those boxes.
If you like Martin, try the X series. LOL but you get the sound. Regards Jan
Sounded great! Guess the elephant in the room (or in the review) when it comes to travel guitars is mainly going to be, is it as good or better than a GS mini for the money? A lot of makers are unapologetically aping that design, but a GS mini is now a fairly significant investment to heave around in a car or on public transport?
I’ve traveled for the last couple of years with a small Harley Benton Travel Mahogany E guitar that is about $200 delivered with a nice gig bag from Germany. The guitar sounds really good and it has a pickup if i want to plug into an amp or PA.
But this last Summer I brought my Rainsong WS 1000 reissue because it sounds so much better and is incredibly stable across varying temperatures and humidity and has a LR Baggs Element pickup.
I'll throw a torch : Applause guitar
Look at Kepma 3/4 size guitars . Made in China with great quality for the money. Plus they can come with on board effects like reverb and chorus!
I get it but I still want a Little Jane.
You make me happy,I feel like your being honest thank you !!!
Your list, plus SOLID top and adult neck. Love the 1 3/4 nut on Martin juniors. Does the Orangewood stay in tune?
Would this make a good beginner guitar? My daughter is 8 and I was contemplating getting one of these for her to learn on.
Check out Dana guutar by Orangewood as well it's awesome
I’ve been wanting a travel guitar that is impervious to the elements; that sounds very good (so you’re actually inspired to play it) And is affordable. Asking a lot. I’m assuming that needs to be carbon fiber? Any suggestions welcome. (LAVA? Rainsong? Etc. )

KLOS makes an incredible travel guitar that is still bi-directional carbon fiber. The brands you mention can shatter and are actually at more risk for damage because they are made from ground up powdered carbon fiber that’s mixed into resin - they’re good for resisting humidity, but they are more at risk of breaking with very little effort and have no way to get repaired. Want to see an example? Search for the Lava 3 unboxing on the Agufish UA-cam channel that arrived smashed to bits - and no the shipping box didn’t get smashed. It takes very little to break those things because they’re essentially reinforced plastic. I’ve read a lot about the different types of composites that use carbon fiber, and it’s probably the worst choice for a guitar - even in a house, one wrong knock or drop, and it’s toast. That will never happen to a KLOS guitar or any other guitar so long as it’s made from bidirectional CF. Even unidirectional is a poor choice for a guitar, but the ground up composite ones that are mixed into resin are essentially plastic and not the best idea unless you treat your guitar like a museum piece. I would not recommend using them for travel, let alone in most homes where there might be kids, pets, and/or butter fingers lol.
Anyway, I would recommend saving up for a full or travel sized KLOS because it’s the most attainable on the market - most other brands would cost double. I’ve had a full sized hybrid model going strong since 2018. It’s my only guitar and was given to me as a gift. Mine has a wood neck that has CF stiffening rods inside - they didn’t make them with CF necks when I was given this full sized guitar. They still make hybrids and it saves money. You can also get b stock or a used model. Call the company and ask for a discount too.
Otherwise, I’d choose wood for most travel scenarios. Wood is stronger than those Chinese composite guitars. You have a better chance with a good wood guitar than plastic. These Chinese brands take advantage of the fact that most guitarists are not educated about CF, and there are lots of folks that don’t read up on this subject and sadly learn the hard way when their “carbon fiber” guitar breaks.
Thank you kindly for your thoughtful and compressive response! I will surely review your suggestions. @@MashaT22
I've been mulling the idea of a Martin 0-X1 as a camping guitar. I'm under the impression that HPL is more likely to survive temperature and humidity changes. Is a solid wood top a reasonable risk for this purpose? Is that Martin going to outlast two Orangewoods?
My friend has a Mexican solid top Martin, with richlite and HPL.
The top moves A LOT with humidity changes.
Exactly why I was looking more at the Orangewood Dana: laminate top, back, and sides, going to be more durable, more reliable, not to mention cheaper. The Oliver jr. is a hair smaller than the Dana in depth and overall length, but the lower bout is a little bigger, which gives it a little bigger sound.
@@VikingPadre In the time since I originally commented, I stumbled upon a used Martin DXM dreadnought (all HPL) for 150 bucks. Its bridge needed to be re-glued, hence the fire sale price. It's all fixed up and playing like a champ now. So it's not quite a "travel guitar" in terms of size. Meh. I'll make room. ;-)
a lot of toxic comments in this section.. I thought that his guitar sounds good enough and definitely is looking great.. and I just played a Martin 000-15SM…
Any time you travel with an acoustic instrument it brings up challenges and big risks. I don't have one right now, but I would consider getting one. Are the Orangewood is definitely a consideration. With such a low price point, it would be very good and definitely replaceable.
I've played a few of the Martin travel guitars and a couple of baby Taylors. Nice, but not for the cost.
I also think a travel size guitar that needs some help would be a great candidate to turn into an octave mandolin. I tried to get one for that, but the bidding went too high.
what store is reliable to buy the oliver jr?

My Shepherdstown WV wife is calling BS - she says the Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge mountains touch WV.
Nice travel guitar though.
😂
I take my 1999 Larrive'e O-01 (Parlor) with me to work nearly every day. In the past, I considered myself socially awkward. Having a guitar with me was like my LINUS (Van Pelt) BLANKET. Instead of me having to think of what to say to other people to start a conversation they would come up to me because I was playing cover songs that they loved.
My travel guitar is a Martin DX-1 Koa All HPL sounds better than you’d imagine. Hard to beat for $400 used
Buy a solid-top for 200-400$ new and you'll beat it.
For 400$ you can get an all-solid used, sometimes.
0000 customer service
It doesn’t sound good. For anyone interested, a Taylor mini (mahogany) sounds much better.
Will cost twice as much as well.
Could have bought an all-solid guitar for that money.
Orangewoods aren’t that “great”. I’m assuming your getting a kick back from them to push these guitars. Not that that’s a bad thing, just Not when your not being truthful about it.
"This video is sponsored by Orangewood" at 2:27 seems pretty truthful. Also contains some critical remarks about the guitar.
My orangewood is beyond great.
So Jeremy has sold out to the highest bidder and no longer trustworthy
I hope not. I stand by these points. Is it sponsored content that alienates you or my advice about how to pick a certain kind of guitar?
Look I’m not a big fan of the sponsored product either. I usually skip those and wait for content that I like. You should just send Jeremy a list videos he’s allowed to make.😅
I’ll tell you what doesn’t make a travel guitar great, and that’s faded red pants. Dude what are you doing with the faded red pants and the yellow checked shirt? You are a walking fashion nightmare.
Dad, is that you?
