      @2MinuteGardenTips Insects breathe through their "skin". The soap coats their "skin" and they can not breathe so they die. Usually 1 teaspoon of Dawn or other concentrated dish soap per quart (32 oz) of water does the trick just fine.

    True. One day after getting home from work my potato patch was stripped. My entomology kicked in and I knew it was Colorado potato beetle. My little girl and I both got a cool whip tub of dish soap and water. We hand picked them off and put them in the dish soap water. My tater patch was pretty big but we saved every hill! I live in northern Ohio! I was so relieved at harvest diggin time. We still did pretty good! It works.

    I wrap a trash bag around the stem before spraying. I grow in pots though but that keeps the majority of the spray out of the soil. Thanks for all your videos. I appreciate them a lot.😊

    I believe it works because it suffocates the bugs. Some bugs breathe through their skin or exoskeleton I think.

      Too many have the mentality to just kill everything that moves. When we should strive for a balance.

      I've used it on large underground yellow jacket nest. Any dish soap will do. The cheap dollar store stuff works well and is cheap. Mixed into a large bucket and poured in wasp hole at night takes them out. Have another person at the ready with a shovel scoop of soil to cover the hole once the bucket is emptied.

    Don't insects breath through small holes along their body? Soap then clogs up holes & prevents them from getting oxygen.
    Been using a pump weed sprayer armed with Dawn & water to take out wasp nests under eaves when they start forming. An RV washer hose attachment with soap spray is another good option.
    Going shirtless while battling the wasps makes it more of a fair fight. 😂

    • @2MinuteGardenTips
      @2MinuteGardenTips  4 місяці тому

      I'm sure it'll kill gnats, but the problem with gnats is there are so many of them, it would be very difficult to eliminate them with a contact killing spray. You must check your yard to eliminate all standing water. No puddles, no buckets or plant container drip trays collecting water, dump your birdbath if the water is old, etc.
