@2MinuteGardenTips Insects breathe through their "skin". The soap coats their "skin" and they can not breathe so they die. Usually 1 teaspoon of Dawn or other concentrated dish soap per quart (32 oz) of water does the trick just fine.
True. One day after getting home from work my potato patch was stripped. My entomology kicked in and I knew it was Colorado potato beetle. My little girl and I both got a cool whip tub of dish soap and water. We hand picked them off and put them in the dish soap water. My tater patch was pretty big but we saved every hill! I live in northern Ohio! I was so relieved at harvest diggin time. We still did pretty good! It works.
I use Dr. Bronner's peppermint castile soap in my garden and it works great!
I was about to ask about Dr. Bronner's on my vegetables. I use it for EVERYTHING else.😊
@putdalimeindacoconut it's good for all sorts of stuff. I like washing with it too.
I wrap a trash bag around the stem before spraying. I grow in pots though but that keeps the majority of the spray out of the soil. Thanks for all your videos. I appreciate them a lot.😊
It won't hurt the soil, lightly spraying the soil occasionally will discourage fungus gnats.
@@roywarriner8441 Yep! 💯
Just do a targeted spray. No need to spray all over the place
Thank you for sharing, I found some aphids today. I will make this tomorrow.
I believe it works because it suffocates the bugs. Some bugs breathe through their skin or exoskeleton I think.
We have a bottle like you have there of water that we put about 10 to 12 drops of blue Dawn dish detergent into, and it will kill wasps immediately upon contact. Been doing it for years
That's great to know. I just hate wasps.
Does it kill them before they attack you?
Works well on boxelder bugs and squash bugs as well.
yes i do that! but i use a different dish detergent exclusively for my plants.
Thank you🙏🏻
I use soapy water on the Chinese lantern bugs. It works great!!
And whether buogs. We wert be alive 🤬
Good afternoon, I’m in zone8 b Fayetteville NC. I plant some garlic and onions 🧅, l was wondering how often do I need to water them ?
The surfactant clogs their sphericals so they can't breath.
Have you had any problems w scale on your citrus? If so, what’s worked well for you?
Thanks for your content,
Jon
what about butterfiles
I thought dish soap was good for the soil because it's a surfactant and will allow water to soak into it.
I will try this! Thank you 😊
Dale! Those insects in your video are what I have on my green peppers. I haven’t been able to identify them! What are they? Your spray worked by the way.
Is that a leaf footed nymph or an assassin nymph? I have such a hard time telling them apart, and I hate killing assassin bugs.
That was a Milkweed assassin bug.... he just killed a beneficial
@@udderstuff5554 😱 oh no! Mr. Bill!
It looks like he's killing beneficial assassin bugs; the legs are much thinner than the leaf footed nymphs. I was going to ask as well.
Too many have the mentality to just kill everything that moves. When we should strive for a balance.
I was told to use a tablespoon of soap and tablespoon of sunflower or canola oil in a spray bottle to kill potato bugs. I did this earlier today. Hope it doesn’t kill the plants.
Hi, I am new to your channel. I'd like to know what is the best stuff to use for outside of my doors. And around my windows to keep bugs from coming in and motis offs another sort of bugs crickets everything spiders.
Aunt.❤
Do you recommend using pre manufactured insecticidal soap spray?
I tapped the thumbs 👍 button to feed the algorithm monsters.
Um.... that was a Milkweed assassin bug. Thats a beneficial bug....
Aphid eaters
I use this on wasps. It works amazing on ground nests.
Use it on individual wasps... not nests...for pain free results.
I've used it on large underground yellow jacket nest. Any dish soap will do. The cheap dollar store stuff works well and is cheap. Mixed into a large bucket and poured in wasp hole at night takes them out. Have another person at the ready with a shovel scoop of soil to cover the hole once the bucket is emptied.
Are roaches insects and will that work on them....
Whats the ifference in pyrethrin and neem oil?
I thought those bugs in the video were good bugs, are they not?
Nope suck leaf juices out of your plants. They love tomatoes
Hi, thank you for this video! Does this method work on spider mites and on Brevipalpus phoenicis (false mite, flat mite)? Have you ever tested it on those? Thanks
Soak a little tobacco in the mix. Even better. Lemon dish soap and tobacco. Make a large batch in a 5 gallon bucket.
Dawn dish soap & warm water does the trick, for Rose Beatles. Thank you.🙂
This is a good tip but... Why did you spray assassin bugs? They're great at controlling pest insects and don't really cause any harm to gardens, yes?
The soap coats them in a film that they can't breathe through, like being in a body fitting soap bubble.
Cool. Thanks!
Hi Dale!!! ❤
I use a combination of dish soap, water and orange oil for ants in my pots. Works wonders.
I just bought liquid castille soap just for this….
Thank you 😊
Thanks 🙂
yayy.thankyou!
Once again, another good tip. Thank you.
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Don't insects breath through small holes along their body? Soap then clogs up holes & prevents them from getting oxygen.
Been using a pump weed sprayer armed with Dawn & water to take out wasp nests under eaves when they start forming. An RV washer hose attachment with soap spray is another good option.
Going shirtless while battling the wasps makes it more of a fair fight. 😂
What about gnats?
I'm sure it'll kill gnats, but the problem with gnats is there are so many of them, it would be very difficult to eliminate them with a contact killing spray. You must check your yard to eliminate all standing water. No puddles, no buckets or plant container drip trays collecting water, dump your birdbath if the water is old, etc.
This saved me!! Thank you!! 🙏🏼
I love buogs 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Thank you MG! 😊👍👍
