Stumbled by on search for AK20Traxxion cartridge demo - not found.
As retired Honda Tech - Turbo 250hp builds - etc.
Needed cartridge mods for my 2 1800VTX Neo - w/ Showa Inverted Junk up Frt.
Always Ohlins fan - Impossible to find Alternative forks for these machines.
It was a pleasure to see this Class of hands on - You Sir are absolute Master.

the idea is to clean the sliding tube regularly (weekly) to get all the dust and debris off it including insect skeletons that can rip a seal. Every once in a while depending on monthly mileage the fork seals need to be lightly greased to prevent stiction. If you ride in wet weather using a product like seal saver to get the dirt and debris out of the fork seal is also very helpful.

Ohlins has different conventions on how to set oil level depending on the fork. Some are without spring but with preload tube, some are even with spring but without preload tub and some are without either. You need to get the specification sheet from Ohlins or an Ohlins service dealer for your specific fork and it will tell you how that forks oil
level is set. Probably the fork in the video is one that is measured with the preload tube.

Spring compression tool would be recommended to make life much easier.

when you service the forks, the demping will be different then it was before. that means that you need to adjust the suspension afterwords agian, for a proper setting. So it has no use to write down the adjustments before taking it apart..

Thanks for the great vid - I've purchased too! What kind of oil weight is needed? I'm struggling to get my hands on the Ohlins own fork oil...

Are you asking abut the fork cap removal tool? Teflon grease is fine for the oil seal and leave the dust seal dry.

if you have one undamaged fork cap, duplicate the settings from that. If both are damaged, you can see the preload settings so then you will have to guess the rebound setting with should be between 10-14 clicks out in a total range of 18-20

Bought the vid and it's great!
Can I spray parts cleaner into the inner tube where the cartridge is to help dislodge some of the metal debris in there?
How did you determine what level to fill to? (I've seen the chart but not sure how to read it.
    Thanks Dave!

@clayd73 you are correct. The spring followed by the rebound needle and lastly the rebound rod.

Quick question.. I'm try to replace my fork cap on my 04 r1 which was damage in a crash. Do I need to write down all my setting info about the fork before i take the cap off? Or can i just replace the cap. If so..I can't, cause the fork cap was grounded down pretty bad so, I cant adjust it at all.
    Thanks for any info.

hi, I have similar fork (ducati multistrada 1000s) with a slight difference; after take out the rebound rod and turn the fork upside down to drain oil, there was a small pin and spring came out in to oil. sadly, I didn't noticed this on the first leg so I didn't try to catch how they was pleaced. I am not sure if i put them back correctly. actually, I bought this video to comfort myself regarding this matter but nothing about it. is spring first and pin later with flat side up correct? thanks

Ohlins manual says that oil level height must be measured whithout the preload tube. You say the opposite. It means a big diference on the oil height and its consequences. Please help me whith it!!!

Hey Dave, what is your opinion on this fork with the 25mm piston and the newer ff521 with the 30mm nix? I currently have the fg424 and am wondering if the newer ff521 is an improvement or just a side step? Thanks!

I've tried 150 mm whithout the preload tube and whithout spring. The forks became very stiff. I'd better went 150 mm whith the preload tube in and spring out. That's what I knew.
